Chapter 100 My Brother's Child
Chapter 100 My Brother's Child
Killian
The bastard kept calling, and I was afraid the ringing would wake her up, so I went back to the balcony, shut the door, and picked up.
“ What the hell do you want !” I snapped.
“Oh…look who finally picked up his goddamn phone!” Alex yelled on the other side.
My lips twitched. We are about to start bickering again. “ What …do …you want!”
" To talk some sense into your thick skull. Where the hell are you! Your house is empty!”
I clenched my fists around the silver railing. "Where I am is none of your business, Alex!”
He snorted. “Of course, it’s my business, Killian, because you need someone to knock some sense back into your skull. Why haven’t you made up with Raven yet?”
My jaw tightened at the mention of her name, and I glanced over my shoulder. “I’ll repeat myself for the last time, I have no intention of doing that.”
He chortled over the phone. “Oh really? Is that so? Then kindly explain to me why you bought her a ticket to meet you at wherever the fuck you are!” His tone had sharpened at the end of his statement.
Sometimes he acts like my dad. Only, that old man was worse than he was. Far worse.
I didn’t answer his question, and it only further gave him more audacity to talk.
“Oh, now, you can’t answer. Are you Fucking serious, Killian? Why the hell are you toying with her if you have no intention of getting back together?”
I ran my free hand over my hair. I still didn’t answer because what the hell was I supposed to say? I don’t even have the answer to that.
“Don’t be a simp, Killian.” He sighed.
I gritted my teeth. “ She’s Pregnant with Nero’s child !!” I growled, the anger that I had tried so hard to melt started slipping into my mind little by little.
“So?”
I scoffed, shocked at his one-word response. “What do you mean by that? She’s fucking pregnant!”
“Does that matter?” He asked.
“Of course it does !!” I half yelled, glancing over my shoulders again to make sure I hadn’t woken her up.
“No, it doesn’t! The fact that she’s carrying Nero’s child doesn’t change the feelings you both have for each other!” He started.
“I don’t have fee—”
" Shut up! Don’t interrupt me. Now, where was I?”
I should be angry, on a normal day, Alex won’t dare to tell me to shut up.
He continued. “We both know there’s no way in hell she’ll end up with Nero. First off, you won’t allow it even if you keep telling yourself otherwise.”
“I don’t care if she—”
“Shut the fuck up, Killian…you care…you absolutely care! Now, as I was saying.” He cleared his throat and continued.
“Second, you’re just bitter that your brother is slowly succeeding in making you miserable. I can swear on my grandma that if she were pregnant for any other random guy in New York, you’ll murder him, feed him to the sharks, drag Raven to the altar, and wed her. But this…. this is Nero we’re talking about. You’ve had problems with him since you were a kid…I’ve seen it all. He’s done a lot of things to you, Killain. And believe me, I know how it feels.“
Silence followed.
My hands were trembling now.
When I didn’t respond, he continued talking.” I’ll keep saying this till you accept it. You’re just angry at yourself and at your brother and your parents. And yeah, you’re scared.”
I swallowed hard.
“You’re scared, Killian. You’re scared she’ll hurt you again, but you know well enough that this Raven is not the one from before. You both were still under the control of your parents back then.”
His words felt like daggers heading straight for my heart. I gripped the phone tightly, my breathing becoming unstable.
“Take her back, Killian. Before Nero does, or you’ll regret it for the rest of your supposedly miserable life.”
I turned around slowly to look at her, the phone trembling in my hands.
I looked down at my free hand and the way it was trembling.
Am…am I scared?
I shook my head the next second and turned to face the silver railing. Anytime I look at her, I get this painful thug in my chest. Almost like I can’t breathe.
I don’t get the pain when I don’t look at her, so I’d rather let it stay that way.
“You’re wrong. I don’t want her …I’ll be sending her back tomorrow.”
I heard Alex groan in frustration. “Quit being an emotional bitch! Listen to me, Killian. You, Killian Larson Markov, are fucking in love with that woman, and nothing, I mean nothing… not even a baby that’s not yours is going to change that. If it were, you’d have moved on eight years ago.” He yelled over the phone.
I refuse to let his words sink in, even as I wrestled with my thoughts, so I forced myself to say something. “I …I’m going to move on this time.”
He snorted. “Alright then. If you move on, it means you’ll be okay with Nero tormenting her. You’ll be okay with Nero doing whatever he wants with her.”
I sucked in a sharp breath. The idea felt terrifying.
“Fine then…I’m done talking about this with you, Killian.” Then he hung up on me.
I exhaled, dropping my hands from my ears, my chest heaving up and down.
I’m okay with it. Yeah, I am. I will be.
I’ll just send her back and cut all forms of connections I have with her for good this time. That’s it, that’s the right thing to do…cut her off completely. I’ll send her back and start afresh here. I braced myself and went back into the bedroom, putting on my mask.
She yawned slowly, raising into a sitting position. “Is it morning yet?” She asked, rubbing her eyes.
I ignored her; I didn’t even look at her. I grabbed my shirt and got dressed. If I’m going to maintain my resolve, then I have to be away from her.
" Where are you going?” She asked again, getting off the bed.
My muscles tightened as I heard her take slow steps towards me.
Fuck…don’t come close. Stay away!
“Killian…are you still angry at me?” She muttered.
My hands tightened around my belt, and I nearly lost my resolve from the pain in her voice.
I swallowed and inhaled slowly. “I’m sending you back tomorrow morning. Be ready before 8 o’clock, your flight leaves at 9.”
She gasped.” What?”
I grabbed my phone and shoved past her, not bothering to look her in the eyes. She has to see the coldness in my eyes and feel it in my voice and actions.
“Killian, wait!” She ran after me and blocked my path.
“You want me to go back? Killian….” Her voice broke.
I kept my expression the same, cold and hard.” I brought you here for a sole purpose. You’ve fulfilled that purpose, so leave!”
I saw something break in her eyes and the way her shoulders slumped….
“Aren’t …we going to talk about us? I thought you…. you…” Her eyes had started turning watery.
" There’s nothing to talk about. There’s nothing between us. We just had sex, and that’s all.” I snarled.
She blinked away the tears, wiping the one that managed to escape with her bare hands. “That’s all?”
I gritted my teeth. Why does she sound like that? She’s making this hard for me….I should leave before I lose control of my emotions.
I kept a straight face, nonetheless. Maybe if I say something that’ll hurt her, she’ll finally give up. “You’re pregnant with my brother’s child, Raven. You already ruined what we had.”
I brushed past her immediately. I don’t want to see her cry. I can’t handle it.
" You’re talking like it’s entirely my fault.” She yelled, and I paused just as I got to the door.
" Maybe if you hadn’t kept it a secret that you had a twin, then maybe I would have been more conscious about the two of you.” She walked up to me and stood some feet behind me.
" You didn’t tell me you had a twin, Killian. So how was I supposed to know in that moment that it wasn’t you? Yes, I sensed that something was wrong, but I didn’t think much of it.” She sniffed.
She was crying now.” You think you’re the only one hurting?”
“For fuck's sake, I’m pregnant with a man that I barely know. I’m pregnant for a man who wants to hurt me. And every day, I’m terrified that he’ll come after me.”
I stiffened with my back to her.
“I’ve contemplated an abortion a thousand times. I’m this close to taking the pill, but I swore not to take a life, Killian.”
“The day I stumbled into the secret room in your house and saw his name pasted on the wall and pictures of him stalking me, I thought it was you, and Nero was some mysterious man I didn’t know of. I fucking thought it was you!” She yelled again, her voice extremely pained.
Jesus Christ! She saw all of that.
“You fucking look alike. There’s literally no difference between you too. You even sound the same, so how was I supposed to know it wasn’t you, huh?”
She stopped talking and started sobbing. I just stood there, unable to move an inch. My heart was beating painfully fast in my chest, and my hands were trembling again.
They were trembling violently this time because I just realized that she was right.
I kept my twin a secret from her because I thought it was for the best. Because I was... scared.
God…what have I done?
