Chapter 43 - Get out
Chapter 43 - Get out
~Author’s POV~
They had exited the car, Rael's shirt soaking in his own blood from the wound. Harriet's face twisted into something unfathomable. Pain? She'd gotten hurt herself, but seeing another person get hurt from shielding her, she felt her eyes moistening. What was wrong with her? She was never one to cry.
Rael noticed the girl's tears and immediately felt at a loss for words. He had never seen a woman cry, so didn't really know how to Cajole them. At the moment, the girl who looked all brave and sassy while seducing him now looked like a scared kitten. He quickly pulled her into his embrace, stopping her from looking at the damaged car. It wasn't because he wanted to, it was because the car at this point had been dented to a point of no return. If she saw it, she would wonder how they had survived the accident at all.
Harriet, feeling Rael pull her into his arms, stiffened, beads of tears rolling down her cheeks and soaking his shirt. Why was she even crying! Was it because Rael got hurt? She still wanted to check his wounds, but he wouldn't let her.
In the end, Rael signaled for Kai to look into the accident before leaving with Harriet in another car.
By the time they arrived home, the sky had already turned dark. Harriet shivered from cold, dried tears staining her cheeks. She did not look so brave anymore, and Rael could not help but feel something tug at his heart.
“I'll be fine,” he muttered, not knowing why he had the urge to explain to her. The girl glanced at him before her gaze moved to his clad abdomen. In the end, she nodded before heading upstairs to her room.
Meanwhile, back in Rael's room, he quickly discarded his bloodied shirt and went to shower. When he got out his wound, he bandaged the wound which was closing up a little too slowly before pulling out his drawer to pull out a box of cigarettes. He lit one, puffing smoke through his mouth.
Just then, a knock came on the door, followed by Harriet's worried voice. For some reason, she couldn't rest until she saw that he was really okay.
When the man gave her permission to enter, she pushed the door open slightly, peeking inside like a little kitten before finally walking in. When she saw color return to the man's face, she felt relieved, yet this relief quickly vanished, replaced by shock. Why was he smoking while he was wounded?
Rael noticed the smoke that had filled the room, and seeing the girl stare at him disapprovingly, he tossed it to the floor, killing it. It wasn't that he loved smoking, it was just that he needed to smoke to keep his blood lust in check. Just now after being wounded, he had felt his fangs starting to elongate, and his eyes starting to morph, and thus, he could only pull out some cigarettes to smoke. If Harriet hadn't walked into the room, he would have smoked 20 more cigarettes until he regained his composure.
“How can you still smoke after being injured? You really don't value your life huh?” She asked, glaring at him. Rael's lips slowly curled up, feeling his hunger gnawing at his throat. At the moment she looked really appetizing. Her hair was tied in a bun with some strands falling onto the side of her face. In one swift motion, he pulled her into his embrace, earning a yelp from her.
“What are you doing!” Her eyes widened, feeling like she had landed on his wound.
“I want you,” he rasped, his voice coated with something unfathomable. Arousal? But Harriet's face only turned beet red.
His arm slowly curled around her waist while the other lifted her chin up to stare at him, seemingly knocking the air out of her with his amazing looks. He captured her lips, kissing her hard.
Harriet’s mind went blank the moment Rael’s lips crashed against hers. The kiss was rough, demanding—nothing like the teasing seduction she had tried on him before. His fingers tightened around her waist, pulling her flush against him, and she gasped as she felt the heat of his body searing through her clothes.
For a split second, she hesitated. He’s injured. He shouldn’t be doing this. But the thought dissolved when his tongue slid against hers, igniting a fire low in her stomach. Her hands, which had been braced against his chest in protest, curled into his shirt instead, pulling him closer.
Rael groaned into the kiss, his grip on her tightening. The metallic scent of his wound still lingered in the air, mixing with the faint aroma of tobacco and something darker. His fangs ached, his control slipping with every second she melted against him.
Then, Harriet’s fingers brushed against the bandage on his abdomen, and she felt the dampness of fresh blood. She jerked back, panting.
“You’re bleeding again,” she whispered, her voice shaky. She quickly pulled away, panting as she reached out to open his shirt. His bandage has a red blotch on it, making her shiver. She couldn't imagine what his skin looked like beneath the bandage.
“I'll clean your wound,” she voiced out, getting up abruptly, only to be pulled back down on the bed by the man. She gasped when he spun her around, pinning her beneath him.
“I'll feel better after having you,” came his curt reply, making her blush. Why was the man so shameless?
Rael pinned her hands above her head, burying his head in her neck.
“You smell so good,” he muttered, his voice hoarse, making her shiver.
“You–what are you doing?” Harriet asked, feeling something was off. The way his voice had changed. The way his grip on her wrists tightened painfully. Her eyes moistened a little, even if the pain wasn't enough to make her cry.
His grip suddenly loosened in the next minute, and he turned away, lighting up another cigarette.
“Get out,”
