Chapter 36 - Playing with fire
~Rael~
I'd been talking with a few business men, yet, my ears had caught her words from afar. My eyes fixated on her red dress, her fiery red hair that was held up by silver pins that shimmered in the light. And how could I miss the image of her long leg that was accentuated by the slit of the dress. It screamed just one word–perfect.
I heard the rapid hum of her heart as she muttered how good I was in bed, making me down the glass of wine I'd been holding before walking over.
How could I miss the hungry look that was casted by the boy beside her?
One look from me and he immediately backed off. I could smell him, I knew what he was–a vampire, just like the rest of the Beaumont family.
And just like me, they'd been amidst humans for as long as I could remember. When he left, I turned to Harriet, seeing her big blue eyes rest onto me, and the faint blush that had crept its way up her cheeks. It made something stir in my chest. Something I had never felt before.
She stared at me silently, slowly downing the wine in her hand as her gaze wandered.
“You look beautiful,” I muttered, not knowing what had prompted my words. She equally looked surprised. Her eyes widened a bit before returning to normal.
“You look handsome as well, Rael.” She muttered, a faint blush coming to rest on her cheeks. My gaze moved to the empty glass she was still holding. I snatched it away, taking it to my nose to sniff.
My eyes darkened. This wine–it wouldn't affect even a 100 year old vampire, but once a human drank it, there was no telling what would happen. Placing the empty glass on the tray of a passing waiter, I pulled her wrist a little too harshly, walking out. I could already see the various gazes that had been directed at her since the moment we stepped into the banquet, and how could I miss the obvious hunger in their eyes. It infuriated me to the core.
“Ah…where are we going?” She almost yelled once we reached outside, and my gaze snapped back to her.
“How many glasses did you have?” I asked, my tone returning to its usual coldness. She blinked twice before raising her middle and index finger in the air.
“Two…” she muttered, making me grind my teeth together.
“Fuck!” I cussed out loud. How exactly did this woman always get into trouble?
I'd called Kai in advance, making him book a hotel nearby, and I pulled her into the car, having the chauffeur drive off.
“Isn't it rude to leave the banquet halfway?” She asked, her eyes showing a hint of curiosity that made me soften a bit.
“Rael Morgan does not explain things to anyone, little lamb,” I stated, my gaze turning to rest on the road ahead. I was caught off guard when she hugged my arm.
“I feel so hot, Rael,” she muttered, her tone lowering, and my gaze moved to stare down at her clutching onto my arm like a lost kitten. Strands of her hair fell onto the sides of her face, and so did her bangs. Fuck! She looked so vulnerable–so alluring. If only she had an idea what she was doing to me at the moment.
“Drive faster,” I muttered to the chauffeur who immediately stepped on the gas.
Her body got thrown into my embrace, and in the next moment, she was sitting directly on my groan.
“Ugh!” I groaned as she ground on me, and my eyes darkened inexplicably.
“I'm so hot, Rael. Why is it so hot all of a sudden?” She asked, and I stared up at her, finally giving into the urge.
Pulling her head down to meet mind, I crashed my lips on hers, swallowing her next words as my tongue slipped into her mouth.
She tasted sweet–from the wine and from something else. I kissed her hard, my tongue dancing along with hers, and I felt her fingers dig into my hair, making me almost lose my sanity.
I pulled away, watching her heave heavily as she tried hard to catch her breath. Her lipstick had come off, and her lips looked even more succulent.
I fisted my hair, pushing her off me as I tried to keep my hunger at bay. Today was different from other days. I'd also had the wine. It wasn't enough to make me drunk, but it had the ability to do other things. Things I didn't want her to experience. Yet reality suddenly struck me–why did I suddenly care about some human woman?
Memories flashed, making my eyes darken. Memories I had buried deep within had suddenly surfaced all because of this woman. I turned to stare at her where she was still clinging onto my arm, yet this time, her eyes were closed. She had passed out.
Soon, the car arrived at the hotel, and I picked her up, heading to the topmost floor. I had just kicked the door open when her voice came again.
“Are we home yet?” She asked, making my eyes move to her. She was half awake and still moving as I headed to the bedroom, placing her on the bed.
I needed to keep my emotions in check, 8 thought as I made my way towards the door, ready to leave.
“Ah! Why is it so hot in here! Help me take off this dress!” She yelled, her voice getting higher by a few octaves, making me pause in my tracks.
My eyes darkened, yet when I turned and saw her trying so hard to reach the zipper of her dress, I softened. Sighing deeply, I walked over, helping her pull it down. Her warm vanilla skin seemed to have a bit more color due to the light in the room, making me swallow.
I'd just finished and stood up to leave, not expecting her to pull me back down. This time, she had turned over, her face directly in mine, and I saw the corners of her lips arch as she wrapped her arms around my neck.
“You're playing with fire, little lamb,” I muttered, my voice turning unrecognizable.
