Chapter 16 - The jade is fake
~Harriet~
I stood, my eyes marred with amusement as I stared at the mother-daughter duo trying so hard to taint my image. Of course, they'd always been like this. Tainting my image at every chance they got. I never really believed Kylie would be such a person, I used to look up to her. But now? Could I bother with their antics? The answer was no. In fact, I would use their own plans against them, becoming the only perfect daughter in my father's eyes.
It was only a matter of time until my plan was put into action.
“Take a look, this daughter of yours is really getting wayward,” Miranda said, handing the phone to my father. I saw his eyes change into something I couldn't fathom. Something I did not care to understand.
“You–when did you start having a boyfriend!” He almost yelled, his index finger pointed to me while his eyes still rested onto the screen. My lips curled up.
“Why can't I have a boyfriend? I remember Kylie having a rich boyfriend at 19 as well before she met Rael. How come she wasn't scolded for it but I am?” I asked, crossing my arms in front of my chest as I leaned on the railing of the stairs.
I saw him lift his eyes to stare at me, completely speechless. I wasn't wrong about what I had said. Everything Kylie did seemed right, but me?
I had the urge to laugh at myself. It was really pathetic. I had always been pathetic. Thinking that every decision they made for me was right and every act of injustice from my father was him teaching me.
A gasp tore from Kylie's throat in the next second, and I smirked. She had seen the rapid turn of events in the video. I had personally edited the video on the way here, and I knew exactly what its contents were. Right about now, the video of me with Jackson should have been replaced by the one that contained his heated night with Natalie, who was surprisingly Kylie's friend. You would think it was a coincidence, but only I knew that Kylie had also had something to do with me getting raped in my previous life. Jackson and Natalie had merely been her pawns. Now let's see what happens after this.
“You don't seem like the type to watch other people's heated moments, Sister. How come you were interested in this video at first?” I voiced out, my voice laced with sarcasm as my lips curled up in amusement. The way she tried to mask her surprise had me dying with laughter on the inside.
“Tsk. Y'all continue watching the adult content, I'll be on my way.” I stated, walking away. I'd seen the way my father glanced at Kylie, and I secretly felt pleased in my heart. This was just the beginning.
After returning to my room, I took a long bath, hissing once I came to wash my nether regions. It hurts for some reason.
And then it suddenly hit me, I had been with a certain someone last night. Yet, my own behavior last night shocked me. I had remembered bits of the incident, and I knew I had taken the initiative, but could anyone blame me? I'd been drugged.
I finally finished taking a bath, wrapping myself in a bathrobe. Just as I applied oil to my skin, I felt a sharp pain in my neck, making me wince.
Shrugging it off, I proceeded to pack some clothes for the family gathering that'd be starting tonight, my eyes blaring with something unfathomable. It was just a mild trip, yet I felt thrilled about it for once in my life. And the only reason was that Rael would be there. I was thrilled to be in situations where we would almost get caught by Kylie. In fact, I was looking forward to it! I had packed a couple of lingeries which I'd gotten before, planning to surprise Jackson. Now, they seem to have a better use. I stuffed them into the bag, checking my phone for the time.
At 3 O'clock, my father had the chauffeur ready, and we were off to a small resort in City M.
All the while, Kylie was silent, unable to say anything more due to the shock of her failed plans, and I could only play with my phone silently.
{I'll wear anything you want me to, guess who it's, xoxo} I typed, sending it to Rael. 5 minutes and he still hasn't replied, and I dumped my phone into the pockets of my shirt, my gaze focused outside the window.
We soon arrived at the resort where my father had already made the necessary preparations. My eyes scanned around. The beach outside, the sand, the horizon. Everything looked surreal. It was the perfect place to relax on a normal day without Foxes tailing you and waiting for a moment to strike.
When we walked in, a few Anderson family members had already arrived, and one of them was grandma Anderson. My arch nemesis.
“Grandma! You're already here?” Kylie voiced out, excitedly running over to the old woman who sat in a wheelchair. Grandma Anderson’s face lifted into a smile after seeing Kylie, and I could only stand at the side, pulling out my phone to play a game. I couldn't bother with them at all.
“I knew Grandma would be coming, so I got her a little something,” Kylie said, pulling out a box from her pocket and handing it over to the old woman who opened it. I had the urge to roll my eyes when I saw the contents of the box.
“Is that a jade pendant?” A distant Aunt asked, making everyone else gasp. Of course, Jade was expensive. But as a daughter of the Anderson family, how could Kylie be short of money? That was impossible. So of course she could get her grandmother expensive jewelry. That was everyone's thoughts. Meanwhile, I had a thousand other thoughts running through my mind, and I finally tossed my phone back into my pocket before walking over.
“The jade is fake,” I voiced out, making everyone's gazes turn to me.
“What did you say?” my father asked, his face contouring in anger, but I didn't care.
“The jade is fake,”
