Chapter 37 I AM THE WIFE OF XAVIER CROSS

Chapter 37 I AM THE WIFE OF XAVIER CROSS
CAMILA POV

Two days ago, I stepped out of the white Rolls Royce as it pulled up right in front of Xavier’s Velmora estate.

For a second, I actually stopped breathing.

What the hell. This place was enormously beautiful, way beyond any fantasy I had ever imagined. And guess what? I get to stay here. Well, rather, it would all be mine soon once I got Xavier to claim this baby that wasn’t his.

I looked down and rubbed my still-flat stomach.

“Don’t worry, baby,” I whispered, gently circling my palm over it. “Mummy and Daddy are going to make great parents.”

A smirk tugged at my lips as the flashback hit me: that night Zane fucked me so good in Atlanta. I squirted five fucking times. He handled my pussy like a pro, ate me out until my soul left my body. The way he double-penetrated me with the dildo and his dick at the same time… Best night of my life. I bit my lower lip at the memory.

That was the trip I flew to Atlanta to visit him, a month before I came back to LA. We had seen each other a few other times there too, but we only managed quickies. Nothing like that proper, soul-snatching session.

I walked into the modern glass villa, my red-bottom Louboutin heels clicking sharply against the marble floor as I entered the grand foyer with its twin staircases. I looked up, taking everything in. A huge chandelier hung from the ceiling, making the polished floor sparkle beneath it. On the wall was a massive portrait of Xavier. I smirked.

Even my father’s embezzled wealth from his time as mayor couldn’t compare to this.

No one knew Dad had insisted I get married to Xavier. What Dad didn’t know was that I had my own plans: to marry Zane once I secured everything here. Dad had never liked Zane. For years he called him “the failure son.” But after we got our hands on Xavier’s properties, Dad would finally see the real potential my Zane carried.

I noticed the huge vase filled with dried pinewood branches, the antique Borden clock, the 3D pop ceiling, and that massive golden LED mirror. I slapped a hand over my mouth to stop myself from gasping out loud.

“Oh my fucking hell days. This is my dream mirror,” I whispered.

I twirled in front of it, admiring how it made me look even more stunning. “It’s so big. I can’t wait to start vlogging in this house. My fan base is going to skyrocket drastically.” I chuckled softly to myself.

Kade’s reflection appeared in the mirror behind me. He looked like he was nursing a headache. I rolled my eyes.

“What? Don’t you think it’s cute?” I asked, turning slightly.

He rubbed his forehead and sighed. “Let’s start by introducing you to the staff. And stick to the plan. I beg of you not to cause any scenes.”

I folded my arms across my chest. “And what is that supposed to mean?”

He clenched his jaw. “Just let the plan work. This is our only chance. Otherwise our cover will be blown. You have to be really careful. Who knows if there are cameras in here? You know how Xavier is about security.”

I rolled my eyes even harder and patted his shoulder. “Nothing is going to happen. I know you don’t want Zane coming here. Totally fine… I get it. I’ll let him know. You should too.”

He nodded.

We walked through a wide hallway into the kitchen, where a middle-aged chef was cleaning the sink. There was also a chubby butler, one maid polishing the golden cutlery, and another maid dressed like a housekeeper who stood supervising them.

Four people to keep this villa running perfectly for me. I smirked. Exactly what a queen like me deserves.

“Dinner is ready whenever you like, Miss Camila,” the housekeeper said politely.

My stomach twisted. Miss? So Xavier was really that serious about not letting anyone know we were married, even the staff? How pathetic could life get?

I rolled my eyes. “Sure,” I said, waving her off dismissively. Then I turned to Kade. “I’ll be staying in the best guest room, and I want the sheets changed to something satin and royal. Make sure they’re clean. I spend a lot on my skincare.”

“Okay.”

“Also make sure the pillows are properly fluffed.”

Kade cleared his throat and glanced at the housekeeper.

I headed upstairs, the smile never leaving my face as I pictured myself living in this luxurious house. It was so big. I should start planning a house tour for my fans.

The next morning, I descended downstairs for breakfast wearing my silky red robe. The chef had laid out freshly baked tuna, layered pancakes with syrup, and a side of fresh fruit salad.

I flicked my hair over my shoulder and sat down as the housekeeper pulled out the chair for me. I snatched the newspaper from the dining table. Since my phone was still charging, I didn’t want to be bored while eating.

My eyes widened at the headline.

“What the fucking fuck?”

My jaw tightened so hard it could have cracked a walnut. There was Xavier in his signature black shirt, leaning toward that bitch Veronica in a stupid burgundy dress. I knew it was her, even though her face was blurred by the camera angle.

The fork clattered onto the table. Hard.

I wasn’t supposed to be moved by seeing this because I didn’t care about him. What I did care about was the fact that this bitch might ruin my entire plan. With her in the way, getting Xavier to claim this child would be next to impossible.

I rushed upstairs, unplugged my phone, and dialed Kade’s number immediately. It kept saying unreachable. I clenched my teeth. Today was Friday.

Dammit. Xavier doesn’t work on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays, so I definitely couldn’t reach Veronica either. I slammed my hand on the table.

The only safe source was my spy, Betty. I could get every piece of information from her.

“Betty, I want to know everything about the woman Xavier was with in the newspaper headline. Was it Veronica?”

“Honestly, Miss Camila, I really don’t know.”

“How is that possible?” I hissed. “You know everyone around him. That’s why I got you the job, and you’re telling me you don’t know? Is it Veronica in the burgundy dress or not?”

She paused.

“I noticed Ms. Veronica Harper in a burgundy dress yesterday. Maybe it’s her. And she’s been getting free access into Mr. Xavier’s office lately, so it should be her.”

I ended the call immediately.

“Veronica! That lady never seems to learn, huh?” I snarled under my breath. What did she even have? I knew if she stayed around Zane any longer in Atlanta, she would make him fall for her, and I’d be left with no man.

My phone buzzed. “Daddy.”

“How are you, potato?” he asked.

“Did you see the papers, Daddy? Xavier was kissing a bitch. If you had just let me marry Zane, do you think he’d be cheating on me? Dad, I’m in pain. My heart aches.” My voice broke with perfectly practiced fake sobs.

“You know you can always end the marriage, right? Just use his fame as leverage for yourself. Don’t cry, potato. And I stand on my ground: you cannot be with that failure son called Zane. He has nothing to show for.”

“Daddy!”

“Don’t. You have to remain with Xavier. When you get what you want, you can fly to a foreign country and start a new life with a foreigner. Now that I’m retired, I don’t have much more wealth to sponsor you. So this is on you, because you chose to give half of my wealth to that good-for-nothing Zane. This is what you have to face.”

I exhaled sharply.

“And you should know, men like Xavier are powerful. He controls almost every sector. He has more power than I ever did as mayor. So you don’t expect him to be a saint. Be smart, potato.”

I pouted, twirling a strand of my hair around my finger. “I just moved into one of his estates, the villa precisely, but he lives in his penthouse downtown.”

“That estate you’re in,” Daddy said with clear pride, “is worth fifteen of his penthouses. You’re already a step ahead, potato. Remember that. Concentrate on seducing him so you can have a child.”

After a few more words of wisdom, he disconnected the call. Daddy never talked too much, and when he did, it was once in a blue moon.

I smirked. If only he knew I was already pregnant.

His voice soothed my anger a little. But still, I needed to put Veronica in her place. She had to know who the real queen was. And yeah, I knew for a fact I was way more attractive than she was.

I just needed to confirm everything with Betty so I wouldn’t make a fool of myself in case it wasn’t her.

Monday came quickly.

I headed straight to the Vanguard Mall construction site where Veronica was overseeing her new store. When I saw her, she was about to enter an elevator to the top floor. I called her name out loud.

“Veronica.”

She turned around, her lips parting as she scanned my body from head to toe. She should have been mesmerized by my alluring beauty. Because compared to me, she looked pathetically plain.

“Yes?” she finally said, after a moment of staring.

I let my eyes drift slowly over her entire body, head to toe, with clear disdain. “So you’re the mystery girl in the newspaper, huh?”

Her lips parted in a silent gasp, and her eyes widened like she hadn’t expected me to know it was her. The look of terror on her face only made my day brighter.

“Who are you?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. Deep down I knew it was all an act. Zane had told me everything about her and exactly how to deal with her. This would be easy.

I scoffed and tilted my head. “I am Camila Xial. The retired mayor’s daughter and the wife of Xavier Cross.”
