"What about you guys?" I ask. Sophie shrugs. "I'm savoring these last few months of high school. Being an adult just doesn't sound good right now." Understandable. When class ends I stand up to grab my things from the back. Jacob is poking Will, attempting to wake him up. "He's out," Jacob laughs. I lean down next to Will and shake his shoulder. He slowly picks his head up. A red spot from where his head was leaning against the table is in the middle of his forehead. Jacob and I stifle our laughs. "It's time to go," I tell Will as I watch him try to function. "Right," he nods, his voice still sleepy. After standing up from the desk, he picks up his backpack and starts walking away. He trips over a desk before walking out of the class. "I don't think I've ever seen someone actually pass out in class," Jacob says as we walk out behind Will. I haven't either. Then I remember, "Didn't you fall asleep in history freshman year?" He frowns. "You have me confused with someone else." "No, I'm pretty sure it was you. Nathan Pilar even threw a paper airplane at you," I chuckle at the memory. When we get to the double doors, I stop and hand him my backpack like it's the most natural thing in the world. He takes it and I slip my jacket on. "Nathan Pilar is an ass, and a sucky soccer player," he grumbles. "You can't bash your own teammate." "I'm the captain, of course I can." As we tread out to the parking lot, Dylan is walking with Anthony nearby. Dylan's eyes meet mine before they snap to Jacob. By the look on his face, he clearly doesn't like that I'm talking to Jacob again. "He's dogging me, isn't he?" Jacob asks, referring to Dylan. "I don't know," I lie. "I thought you guys were done?" he raises his brow. Jacob doesn't know the half of it and I can't tell him. "It's complicated right now," I say. It's extremely complicated. "You want me to tell him something? I mean, he knows we're not dating or anything right?" Jacob is acting like his old self again. The reason I fell for him freshman year is because he always made me feel wanted. Well, in the beginning anyway. After that I was more of a convenience for him. "Don't bother." Dylan can wonder all he wants about me and Jacob, but if he knows me at all he'll know I would never get back together with Jacob. Casey and Lauren are by Casey's car and they are obviously staring at us. Everyone has their opinions about me hanging out with Jacob again, but it's a matter of who actually knows me. "I'm not the popular one today," he says, staring back at the girls. "I can't go anywhere with you." "No one wants to see me hurt again," I say honestly. I have people who care for me, and while I'm grateful, it's a little annoying. "I get it," he shoves his hands in his pockets and looks down. "I'm gonna head out before my ears fall off." He waves before walking to his truck. It's cold, but it isn't that cold. I'm surprised by Anthony standing at the front of my car, his arms folded across his hoodie-clad chest. His hair is concealed by the hood. "Can I help you?" I ask him. "You're not back with that douchebag, are you?" he asks me. What is everyone's obsession with Jacob? "Jesus, do I need to announce to the whole school that I'm not back together with him? We're just friends." He holds up his hands. "Just asking." I feel bad for snapping at him. He doesn't deserve it. "Sorry, I'm just annoyed by today." "No worries," he shrugs. "What are you doing this weekend?" My heart flutters. Not because Anthony is asking me, but because I have the feeling it has something to do with Dylan. "Why?" I ask. I can't help but be suspicious. "Reece's birthday is on Monday so we're heading to his parents' cabin Saturday morning and coming back Sunday," he says. A birthday trip for Reece? "Is Dylan going to be there?" It's dangerous territory. If Xavier found out I went on a trip with Dylan he'd react. Especially if Casey doesn't talk to him. "Yeah, but Kay invited herself..." he trails off. Why the hell would I want to go? To watch Dylan be all loved up with Kay? He said nothing he does with her will mean anything, but it still hurts to watch. I shake my head. "No way." "It's not going to be totally bad," he says. "Reece's parents are going, so Jared and Derrick are going to be there. You can bring Casey if that makes you feel better." It doesn't seem right. "Why do you want me to go so badly?" If he has some kind of plan, then I'm not comfortable going. Xavier is unpredictable and going on the trip is risky. "You said it yourself, you don't want Xavier controlling every part of your life. Wouldn't it be fun to just hang out? We can send Dylan and Kay to do their own thing while the rest of us party with Reece." "I don't know..." I tell him. "Is Carlos going?" That'll be even more uncomfortable if he's there. He shakes his head. "We haven't talked to him since the other day." Carlos is a different breed from the rest of the boys. The fact that he's so hateful towards Dylan makes me angry. "I'll think about it, Anthony. I don't even know if my aunt will let me go." "You have until Saturday to find out." With that, he walks off. Going on this trip might be a recipe for disaster, but I have to admit I'm curious about what will happen if I do go. If everything goes well, it could be a fun weekend to celebrate with Reece. If things go sour with Kay, I'll have everyone else to cheer me up. I need to talk to my aunt first. If I get the green light from her, then I have to convince Casey to go. Part of me wants my aunt to say yes, but I also want her to say no.
