Before I can say anything, Carlos smacks his forehead. "Shit, Casey, I was supposed to open the door for you." Sticking to the theme of the dance, the entrance to the gym is decorated with fake, giant leaves and brown butcher paper lining the walls. A small, painted rabbit is next to the door with a sign above the leaves that says Lost Down the Rabbit Hole. We make our way through the makeshift 'hole' and enter the gym, where enlarged playing-cards are splayed on the walls, along with the Cheshire cat sitting near the DJ. White paper flowers with red paint adorn the tables surrounding the dance floor. Casey leans towards me and says, "I give them a seven out of ten for decorations." "Let's head to that table over there," Anthony says, pointing to a table off to the side. There's a large group of people on the dancefloor already, and I recognize a few faces. I even spot Sophie dancing away. My heartbeat picks up once I realize that Jacob could be here. I just hope I don't run into him. "You guys want anything to drink?" Carlos asks us. I say no, but Casey says she's thirsty. She and Carlos make their way to the drink table while Anthony and I make ourselves comfortable at the table. "Casey told me not to tell you that she was inviting me and Carlos to be your guys' dates. I hope it's cool with you," he says. "I'm cool with it. I'm glad it's you guys." It would've been uncomfortable with strangers. His attention is on the dance floor and I wonder if he's a dancer like Carlos. What about the other guys? Are Reece and Dylan dancers? "And the other two? What were they up to tonight?" I ask curiously. "I mean, I wasn't expecting Dylan to show up, but I wasn't sure about Reece." "Reece is out of town this weekend and I'm not sure what Dylan was up to. Staring at the wall maybe," he shrugs. Staring at the wall? "Why do you say that?" "He's currently not seeing Kay and you're here, so yeah, he's definitely staring at the wall," he smirks. He's implying things and I need to settle them. "You guys are here too," I say, giving him a look. "Doesn't he have any hobbies to keep him occupied?" "Yeah, but like I said, he's currently not seeing her." Okay, too much information. "I would tell you more about Dylan's life, but I don't think he'd appreciate me spilling all of his dirty secrets." That's intrigues me. "Dirty secrets? Does he live a double life? A secret hobby?" Imagine that. Dylan Parker: brooding teenage boy by day, quilt-maker by night. "That's a no," he says, laughing. Maybe I can learn more about Dylan by asking Anthony about himself. I mean, they are related. "You and Dylan are cousins, right?" He nods. "His mom is my mom's sister. And yes, Dylan has been a trouble-maker since birth." We both laugh and I try to envision what Dylan was like when he was younger. I bet his parents have a lot of cute baby pictures of him. Anthony looks at the dance floor then back at me. "You wanna dance?" "I thought you'd never ask," I grin. We jog onto the dancefloor and start dancing along to the upbeat song that's already playing. Carlos and Casey join us soon after. The boys are making me and Casey double over in laughter with their ridiculous moves and obnoxious singing. We earn a few looks from the people around us, but I ignore them. We grow tired after a couple more songs and decide to sit. "These heels are already killing me," Casey complains, loosening the strap around her ankle. "We'll go get some more drinks," Carlos says as he and Anthony stand up. They disappear to the refreshments table. Casey grins and leans towards me. "See? Having dates isn't so bad." "It's actually pretty fun," I admit. "Good choice." She pretends to bow. "Thank you, I know." The boys join us and as Anthony puts a drink in front of me he says, "Look what the cat dragged in." Dylan, who's standing next to Anthony, is in an all-black ensemble, with a black button-up and black pants. The outfit definitely suits him and I try to stop my heart from beating so quickly, but nothing works. I have to admit he looks really good. Dylan shoves his hands into his pockets and smirks. "It was a big ass cat." "Must've been." Anthony sips on his drink after he says it. They sit at the table, with Dylan sitting between Carlos and Anthony. It doesn't last long. Carlos twists his body towards Casey. "Do you want to dance again?" Of course, she doesn't turn him down. The two practically run to the dancefloor. I lean forward so I can talk to Dylan. "I thought you weren't going to come to this lame dance?" "Well, Anthony convinced me it wouldn't be so lame," he says, leaning forward also. "Lacey's made it no-so-lame, but, fuck, I'm hungry," Anthony says as he glances around. "I think I'm gonna go eat all those cookies at the table. You guys want any?" I shake my head and Dylan says, "I'm good." After Anthony leaves, I take his spot next to Dylan. He gives me a teasing, side-eye look before he faces me.
