"Pills? What pills?" she asks immediately. No use in lying. "It's no big deal. I've been seeing a therapist for the past year and she prescribed me some mild antidepressants." She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. When she opens them, she says, "We'll talk about this tomorrow. Let's just go back and try to be casual. I'm with you the whole way." I nod, grab my drink, and slam the rest before we walk towards the table again. From behind I don't even recognize Dylan. The clothes are so different than what I was used to seeing, but it works on him. The expensive lifestyle must be working for him, based on what I saw on Instagram. Casey and I sit back down at the table and I wring my hands together nervously. I can do this. "Okay," Casey says, breaking the ice. "Where were we?" Anthony speaks up. "Well, you wanted us here to talk about the wedding, right?" Casey seems to ease into it. Of course she'll feel comfortable talking about the wedding. "Right. Well, we've talked a lot about the whole thing. Lacey will of course be my maid of honor and Levi's brother will be the best man. We're trying to figure out who else will be in the wedding party. I was thinking one of my cousins, and Lauren." "Lauren," I say slowly. "As in, Lauren from high school?" "Well, we've kind of kept up with each other. I see her all the time in town," she waves it off. "Anyway, Levi's been trying to think of who else to have as groomsmen." She looks at him expectantly. "So," Levi starts. "I was thinking my best friend, but he's actually planning his own wedding. I know how much Casey appreciates you guys, so I wanted to ask you, Anthony, to be a groomsman too." Anthony's smile practically lights up the room. "Hell yeah I'll be a groomsman." Casey clasps her hands. "Oh, good." Then Anthony tilts his head. "Are there only going to be two groomsmen, even though there are three bridesmaids?" I didn't catch onto that. He's right though. I mean, having an uneven number isn't unheard of. I don't think Casey will like it. Levi twists his mouth. "Well, most of my friends live in other states and can't spend too much time away. I could ask my cousin, but we don't get along too well." Anthony perks up quickly. "Well, what about this guy?" he gestures to Dylan. My heart starts to pound again. Dylan? In the wedding? There's no way this is actually happening. Dylan instantly shakes his head. "I'm not here to intrude on wedding planning," he tells Levi. "I'm just here." Levi seems to be deep in thought and I want to tell him to stop thinking about it and to just ask his stupid cousin to be in the wedding instead. "Honestly, if you're down for it, that'd be really convenient," Levi says. Casey looks at me and I trail my eyes all over the room, looking at anything but anyone in front of me. "Yeah, I'm up for it," Dylan nods. Anthony claps and smiles at Levi. "Oh boy, I need to get in contact with your brother. I already have ideas for the bachelor party, depending on the timeline. What are we talking here, a year or two?" Oh boy is right. Casey and Levi look at each other before Casey gives us a sheepish smile. "Um, six weeks actually." Before I can stop myself I blurt out, "Six weeks?" What am I getting into? "Hear me out," Casey says, specifically to me. "I go back to school in seven weeks. I don't want to be putting off the wedding because of school so I'd rather get it done before. It'll be a small ceremony and reception so we can save for a really nice honeymoon." Six weeks. A laugh escapes my lips and I rub my temples. "Please tell me I'm on Punk'd so I can meet Ashton Kutcher already." "Lace, that show doesn't even come on anymore," Anthony points out. Six weeks. As in, picking a venue, buying decorations, possibly making centerpieces, arranging the catering, buying and mailing both save-the-dates and invitations, planning a shower, planning bachelor and bachelorette parties, ordering flowers, finding a wedding dress, plus bridesmaid dresses, plus tuxedos, all in six weeks and that's not even half of it. I need another drink. "Casey, I love you, but this sounds insane," I tell her. "It is insane," she nods. "But we can do it. We already have a small venue picked out, and we just sent out invitations yesterday. We don't have time for save-the-dates." I've been in worse situations. This could definitely be worse. It's what Casey wants, so it's what she'll get. "Okay," I nod, glancing at Anthony and Dylan. Fitting all of this in six weeks might be tricky. I might have to take more time off work than I thought. "I know that look, Lace," Casey says. "It'll work out. If I didn't think it was possible, I wouldn't even do it this way. And if it makes you feel better the venue is in Greenwell. We couldn't find one here on such short notice." That makes me feel a little better. Casey glances around the group. "The official date is August seventeenth. We'll have more details figured out this week. Levi is taking off work next week to get more stuff done. I already scheduled an appointment to look for a dress at a shop in Greenwell. I'll probably have to stay with you, Lacey, that night if that's okay." "Yeah, of course," I tell her. It doesn't feel real yet, but as soon as I see Casey in a wedding dress I know I'm going to lose it. Somehow the dress will make it real. "I think that's all for now," Casey says, twisting her glass in her hands. Anthony pulls out his phone suddenly and says, "Give me a minute. My mom is calling." He walks away and puts the phone to his ear. It's a little awkward now that Anthony is gone. Casey taps her glass and focuses on Dylan. "So, Dylan, what have you been up to these days?" "Just working and traveling a lot," he shrugs. "I work as a travel advisor so I'm never really in one place for too long." "What does a travel advisor do?" she asks. "I basically help my clients find the best hotels and resorts to stay at, rather than them booking trips online. I work in the luxury part of it which keeps it interesting. If you guys are looking for a specific trip for your honeymoon I can find you something that won't break the bank and I can give you my family discount," he says, speaking like a true business man. Casey grins widely. "We were thinking somewhere with a beach, maybe a resort. We're not quite sure yet." "I'll find something for you," Dylan nods. "And if I don't, then I'm not doing my job right." "Where have you been? Like, all over the world?" Casey asks him. He smiles. "Well, I was just in Florida last week, but before that I was in Italy with a client. I mostly stick around in the U.S. and Europe." When I had seen his Instagram I felt a sense of happiness for him. He's really made something of himself and while it's sufficiently awkward around him, it's good to hear him talk so confidently about his job. Anthony joins the group again. "Olivia threw up. I told my mom not to let her eat too many sweets, and she didn't listen. I'll probably leave here soon to pick her up." "Let's have one drink before you go," Dylan tells him. "It is Raven's after all." Anthony smirks. "Fine, you ass." "I'll get the drinks," Dylan announces while the others tell him what they want. I probably shouldn't drink anymore since I still have to drive to my aunts house. Dylan looks at me for my drink order so I say, "Actually, I'll go with you." He seems surprised. "Okay." I slide off my seat and I enter into the crowd, with Dylan close behind me. I feel more cool and collected now. I mean, I have to be. If he's going to be in the wedding he's going to be around a lot more and there's nothing I can do about it. Might as well embrace it now. We reach the bar and I tell the bartender to close my tab. "You sure you don't want one more?" Dylan asks, leaning against the bar. Oh, dammit he looks hot when he does that. "I already slammed two drinks and I have to drive later, so I better not," I say, signing my receipt and putting my card away. He lets out a laugh before telling the bartender what drinks he needs. When he finishes, he glances over me. "You stayed in Greenwell?" "Yeah, I love it there," I say. It's not a complete lie. Sometimes I love the life I have there, and sometimes I miss my life here. "I bet everyone misses you here. Hell, Anthony says it sometimes," he laughs a bit as he pays for the drinks. I didn't realize Anthony talks about me to Dylan. "And your aunt? How is she doing?" he asks, meeting my eyes. For a split second I find myself getting lost in his eyes just as I had so many years ago. I blink and try to form sentences. "Um, she's great. She's married now and they have a two-year-old. Her name is Penelope." He raises his eyebrows. "Wow. It seems like everyone has kids now. Or is getting married. I have to admit, I feel left behind." "You have a great job though. I'm sure that can make up for it all," I tell him. "What about you? How are your brothers?" Derrick and Ethan were always so good to me and I can't help but wonder what they've been up to for all these years. "They're great. Derrick is working in L.A. as an intern at some record company. Him and Jared still play at bars over there. Ethan is going to be a junior in high school this year and he's playing football. I think he's going to be starting quarterback this year," he says, taking his phone from his pocket. He swipes a few times before showing me a picture of them with their parents. It looks recent. Ethan is a tall kid, almost towering over Derrick and Dylan. He no longer has a baby face and he looks strikingly like Dylan. Derrick's hair is longer, but other than that he looks the same. Dean and Evelyn look happy standing together. I wonder if she still travels. "Ethan is so tall now," I say, handing his phone back to him. Our hands brush slightly and I keep my cool. "He's huge, but I can still kick his ass," he smirks. The smirk. Oh, god, I feel like I'm in high school again. His killer smile has only gotten better and the smirk only adds to it. He could get any girl he wants with his looks. I remember the images of him with that girl and I wonder if she's his girlfriend. "This place is a lot different, huh?" he asks me. "I can't believe how much it's changed," I shake my head. "I bet they wouldn't let in some punk-ass teenagers now," he laughs as he says it. "Max sold the place to some higher up business dude and that was the end of the old Raven's." Reminiscing might get us into trouble. As much as I would like to relive the events that went down here at Raven's, I better not. The drinks for the others have been sitting on the bar and I smile at him. "We should probably get these back." "Right," he nods. He grabs two and I grab the other two. We make our way through the crowd again and we reach the table. I put the drinks on the table before sitting down. "Took you long enough," Anthony says teasing. Dylan only nudges him, but he has a small smile on his face
