Chapter 120 – Willow
Every time someone walked by my mom’s room I would jump. I wanted to see her face and know for sure that she woke up and that her heart was working as it should.
“Jeez, Will. Calm down. You’re making me nervous with how jumpy you are.” Sophia said as she was texting on her phone. “Your mom is going to come in any second. You heard what the doc said, she is healthy, and she is waking up from anesthesia.”
“I know. I’m just antsy.” I twiddled my fingers in my lap. Ogden sat in a chair next to me. He was typing feverishly on his phone. “Any news?” I looked over at him. He had his normal stoic expression on his face.
Without looking up he said, “Roger and Jennifer are reviewing the footage, and they say there is enough evidence to prove that she was unfit to work at the company and that she willingly was in a relationship with me.”
My stomach dropped.
“Even though we weren’t in a relationship.” He added. I think he knew that I didn’t like hearing that they were in a relationship. “She just fabricated it.”
I wasn’t normally a jealous woman, but every time I heard Grace’s name, I wanted to punch her. I never felt like that before, but after she has done so much to us, I felt like it was warranted. “Anything I can do?”
He looked up at me and smiled. “You will probably need to take the stand and relay all that she has done to you. But right now, just relax.”
My phone went off. I pulled it out and stared at the message. [How would Mr. Moore take to knowing you are with child?] The random number that was making threats texted me. I deleted the text. How in the hell did they know that I was pregnant? I only just got it confirmed a few hours ago.
“What’s wrong?” Ogden was staring at me as I grimaced at my phone.
I shook my head. I couldn’t tell him just yet. I knew that the text was coming from Lucy. She was the dirty texter, but she didn’t know that I knew that. And I couldn’t call her out just yet. “Nothing, just waiting for my mom is driving me insane.”
How did Lucy know that I was pregnant? I know that the paparazzi
“Hungry?” Sophia asked as she pulled a sandwich out of her purse.
My mouth watered. “Oh my god, that sounds amazing. I’m starving.” She handed the large sandwich to me. It was turkey with provolone cheese on wheat. I tore into the packaging and took a big bite.
“Did you want anything else? I can order something else for you.” Ogden watched as I took another bite.
I covered my mouth as I chewed. “No, this should do it.” I gave him a small smile, my cheeks stuffed with sandwich.
“Jesus, Will, chew your food.” Sophia snorted at me.
I glared at her. She knew that I was growing little nugget in my stomach, and I needed sustenance to do that. “Shut up.” I said as I took another big bite. “What? Isn’t this sexy to you?” I opened my mouth and showed her the partially chewed food.
We used to show each other our half-masticated food when we wanted to gross the other one out. “Ew, Will. That’s so gross. Just because…” She abruptly stopped.
My eyes grew wide. I knew what she was going to say. I glance dover at Ogden. He didn’t look up from his phone. If I didn’t know any better, he was intentionally ignoring us.
Sophia mouthed, “sorry!”
I rolled my eyes at her. “Don’t lie, you love seeing my half-chewed food.”
“Who is not chewing their food?” My mom’s voice came from the doorway. The nurses were wheeling her in on her bed. Her eyes were half closed, the anesthesia still in her system.
“Mom!” I handed the half-eaten sandwich to Ogden who grabbed it before it could roll to the floor. I walked next to her as they positioned the bed against the wall. “How are you feeling?”
She gave me a thumbs up. “They gave me the good drugs.” She let out a little chuckle.
I held onto the hand that didn’t have her IV. “That’s good.” I tried to hold back the tears that were starting to form again. “The doctor said you are good as new.”
“Oh, hey. Don’t cry, hun.” My mom said in a sleepy voice. She lifted her hand and wiped a tear away.
“They are happy tears, mom.” I took her hand again and gave the back of it a kiss. “We have been fighting for so long and now you are better.” I smiled at her.
“Weeee.” She said.
I laughed at her. Ogden came and stood behind me. “Glad you are better, Betsy.” He said to her. I knew he meant it. I think he was growing to love my mom as his own.
My mom pulled her hand out of mine and stretched it out to him. He took it. “Such a good boy. A good son.” She patted his hand with her other one. “I’m happy to call you son.” She gave him a tired smile.
A look crossed over his face; I knew he never had those words spoken to him by his own parents. And when my mom said it, it opened something up in him. He finally had a mom who loved him for just being him. He gave her a smile.
The nurses hooked her up to her monitors and went over her vitals before leaving us to sit with her.
“I’m so tired. I’m going to rest up. You two should go home. You both look tired.” My mom closed her eyes. “I’ll be fine here.”
“I don’t want to leave you.” I said just above a whisper.
“Nonsense. The doctors said it, I’m as good as new. I’m just going to be sleeping and don’t want an audience if I drool.” She snorted; her eyes still closed.
For the first time in a long time, I felt like I could breath. My mom was finally on the mend and she was going to be okay. I didn’t have to worry about if she was going to survive through the night. She was going to be alright.
“Did you want to leave?” Ogden touched my shoulder. “We can stay if you want?”
I looked up and smiled at him. “You know what sounds amazing right now?”
“What?” Ogden cocked an eyebrow at me.
“Food and sleep.” I let out a chuckle.
“That sounds amazing.” He offered his hand to help me up.
I turned to Sophia. “Thank you so much for being here today. I really appreciate it.”
“You are my best friend. Of course I was going to be here for you.” She gave me a smile.
I looked over at Beverly, but she held up her hand. “No worries. If anything happens I will give you a call. She is in good hands.”
“Thank you.” I said as I followed Ogden and Sophia out of the hospital room. My mom was right, she was just going to sleep most of the night. I would make some time tomorrow to visit her. But for now, she was healthy, and we didn’t have to worry about if her heart gave out.
Sophia gave me a hug. “Let me know if you need anything.” She whispered in my ear. I knew she was talking about little nugget.
The doctor gave me vitamins and a list of things I can and cannot do. I already had another appointment scheduled for next week. It was a good thing that I was going to tell Ogden about the baby tomorrow. Because I don’t think I could constantly disappear and go to the appointment. And I’m sure he would want to join…if he didn’t freak out and break up with me first. I could only hope.
