Chapter 28
James eat up and sighed when His brother came in being his usual annoying self. ile reached up and pinched the bridge of his nose for a second and counted to five to hold onto his patience. “We got an hour ago from the raid. Just getting patched up.” James said and looked down at Hunter’s bloodied leg and frowned. “What happened to you?”
Hunter looked serious for a moment before he smirked and gave a lile shrug. “Nothing much. Just your human crush in the Prison. She bit me. Can you believe it?” he said in an offended tone which ly made James scowl.
“You probably deserved it. We were just talking about them. Alaric wants to let them free.” James said, picturing that little ferals human biting his brother. She did bloody his nose he didn’t put it past her to do more damage.
“I did not!” Hunter protested and frowned at James. “Everyone know I am the nice brother, I don’t deserve this kind of abuse.” He pouted.
Alaric chuckled lowly. “The only good brother of you four is Max. Your mother keeps him innocent and kind.” He reminded James and Hunter to which the two near identical men both grunted at the same time in response.
“Anyways…” Hunter said and stretched his arms above him with a yawn. “Letting them go now would just be a waste. The male’s spirit is broken and you did a good enough job breaking the bitch in. How do all the women survive you in bed?” he teased. “They have maybe a few days to a week left before their bodies give out on them.” He said matter of factly.
“What?” James asked, his head and attention snapping over to his brother when he suggested the wolf and human had only a few day’s left. “What do you mean they only have a few days before their bodies give out?” he demanded, coming off the bed to stand before his brother. Hunter quickly lost the smart ass grin he had been sporting and looked up at James with all seriousness.
“You ordered it… after the incident on level three?” he half asked and half stated. “You gave the order. If she wouldn’t have you they wouldn’t have anything and could rot…” Hunter repeated the rage–induced orders his brother had given him that night, his blood chilling at the expression James got on his face and the soft curse that came from Alaric. He flinched at the sudden growl that came from James just as the man almost ran out of the room. “What the hell is his problem?” Hunter asked Alaric when the Beta moved off his own bed.
“You are the same age… But you are such a pup Hunter.” Alaric said in a cool tone while buttoning up his shirt. “Your brothers wolf wants the human. He wants her alive. He has never ordered starvation for anyone. He just wanted her punished.” He scolded Hunter before he headed out after James to make sure the alpha didn’t do anything he would regret.
James had ran out of the hospital when his brother told him what has been going on in the prison for weeks. It felt like the breath had left his body and his blood ran cold. There was the odd taste of fear in his mouth. He ran through the village and through the forest to the remote prison a few miles away. His wolf was in a panic, enraged at his brother for taking his word so literally. But what James couldn’t figure out was why his wolf was so upset. She was a human. Just a human with a smoking hot body and beautiful golden eyes. He growled and ran faster, blowing into the prison and past the guards, taking the stairs to get to her cell
level.
Every wolf had their own unique scent. It was faint for wolves but it was there so they could identify each other through scent on the ground. But for others, the scent was strong. It would be a smell a wolf would never be able to forget. When James stepped out of the stairwell a scent he had never picked up before flooded his senses and his wolf pushed to the front of his mind to take control. He had not moved, standing and lifting his nose to take in a deep breath. Sweet and earthy, the scent of pomegranates, orchids and the slightest hint of cedar was in his lungs. His wolf about jumped in excitement “Mate…” he whispered before tracking
the scent down.
Realistically, James figured the scent must have been from a new wolf to the pack. There had been a few new ones that Alaric had brought in that he had not officially met yet. He had been waiting for nearly ten years to find the she–wolf that would complete him. The one the moon goddess and sun god blessed him with. Yet as he tracked the scent a look of confusion crossed his face when he found himself standing directly in front of Cassidy’s cell. He stood there for a few minutes in silence before he punched in the code to the door and pushed it open. Walking in, he had expected to see the woman chained to the wall. Maybe asleep like he had found her the first time. Even one of the new pack members in her with her and the scent leading him to her
