Chapter 185 : Demise Of Dark Angel

Chapter 185 : Demise Of Dark Angel
Rayline.

Chris lifted the sword back up with a solemn look, ready to chop his bones off, and started to swing. But before Chris could swing the sword, Lilith suddenly stepped aside, stopping him in his motion.

"Hmm..." Lilith stepped forward, and Chris suddenly stopped in midair. "I think I have seen this before," she said, moving between me and Cole. "You are ready to give up everything, while the ones around you squirm helplessly." She went on, talking about the night Cole would trade himself... to let them kill him so that all of us could leave. Cole's head snapped up to meet her eyes, with a glint of hatred. "But there was something missing, something that happened afterward. What is it now?" She tapped her fingers on her lips, as if in deep thought.

"Oh! I remember now!" She let out a maniacal laugh. "You lost the person you loved the most..." Then she lifted a sacred sword, the reflection of its light glistening down on the steel, as her eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a piercing chill. "Can't forget that part."

In the blink of an eye, she aimed the sword at me, right at my heart.

"NO!" Cole's scream echoed through the room.

Everything happened so fast. I didn't even have time to see it coming. My hands lifted up as I covered myself, waiting for the stabbing pain, but instead, there was a massive burst of energy, screams, groans of pain, snapping bones.

Then, there was no sound whatsoever at that moment, dead silence.

As I opened my eyes and sucked in a breath, a black feather scattered to the ground. Slowly, I lowered my hands, and my heart barely stopped beating. There was Cole standing in front of me with a sacred sword stabbed through his chest.

I was not even sure if I was going to scream. My body was frozen, my mouth dropped open without a sound, and the air was leaving my lungs, making it impossible for me to breathe. I watched as his body slumped down by my side. It felt like everything was on ice. In the distance, I heard Jesse shouting out, but I could barely hear anything.

His eyes met mine and flashed a hazel color.

"Cole!" I managed to croak out, though my voice was hoarse. With trembling hands, I touched his face, and his eyes flicked back and forth between mine as blood spilled from his lips. My eyes then dropped to his chest, and I saw the sword, jutting out with more and more blood soaking through his clothes, creating a hideous pool around him, where I brought my hand to my mouth.

This was bad. I knew it was bad.

I need someone who can heal. I need Chase. Someone. Anyone. A rush of panic started to take over my mind as I whipped my head around, looking at the demons who were now watching silently from the shadows, staring at Lilith. My breathing became ragged and irregular, my heart racing. "He needs help." my voice was raspy, almost lost, but no one moved. "He promised. Please, he-he promised. Please help him."

None of them move. Not a single one. Chris and Levi's eyes met mine, just for a moment, glinting with an emotion I could not decipher. But they remained still, keeping their bodies in the darkness as Lilith lifted her chin with a cold, ruthless look.

"Ray..." His voice sounded weak, barely audible.

I snapped my gaze to him, my eyes wet with tears. "I'm here. I'm here, Cole, okay?" I whispered, shaking my head. "It's going to be okay," I say, trying to fight back a sob.

"Ray..." his voice was getting weaker.

"Don't try to talk. It's going to be okay. I'm right here." I took his hand and linked our fingers, squeezing it tightly.

"Ray." He tried to lift his hand to touch my cheek before lowering it to my shoulder, and his eyes trailed down to the runes on my skin. I followed his gaze to my chest. Noticing that the purplish veins scattered across my skin were starting to fade, returning to their former color. Then it disappeared.

He was dying. Please help.

"No," I whispered as tears streamed down my face. "No, no, no." There was a faint trace of a smile on his face. I looked back at the demons, desperately. "Please, he's dying." I could barely see anything anymore because of the tears streaming down my face. "Please..."

But once again, they did not move. They were too scared. They just stood there, watching in silence. I shook my head feeling hopeless, as I looked back at Cole. His eyes met mine... and he started to lower his eyes.

"No, Cole, look at me," I said, panicking, as I held the sides of his face with both hands, forcing his eyes to meet mine. "Just stay with me. You are going to be fine, okay? You will be fine," a sob escaped as my tears fell without stopping. "After this, we are going to Taylor's place, you are going to look for a job and find a place to live, you are going to study music, and we are going to graduate... and you are going to take me to see the world. Just like you promised."

"I-I..." He tried to speak, but I shook my head.

"Don't even try to talk." I cooed, gently brushing his sweat and blood-soaked hair aside. "It's going to be alright." I was not sure if I was trying to tell him that or myself, but I could not hold back my tears as his eyes searched mine. "Please, just stay with me."

His lips are moving, but nothing is coming out, and I shake my head again.

"I love you," his voice echoed in my mind. I choked back a sob as my thumb brushed over his growing pale skin. "I love you." I closed my eyes and rested my forehead against his, holding his hand in mine, as if holding him would stop him from slipping away. "I love you."

"I love you," I whispered between my sobs.

I planted a kiss on his forehead, my body trembling, and I pulled away to look into his eyes once more. They were glowing magenta before lowering... fluttering closed and then staying still.

"Cole?" I touch his face, hoping for a response. "Cole?" I shake him gently. But he doesn't move. "Cole!" Panic starts to take over me and I catch my breath, as I look at my chest.

The rune was gone.

"No." I place my head on his chest... over his heart. However, all I felt was an eerie silence. Nothing. He doesn't have a heartbeat.

Cole is dead.
