Chapter 183 : Battle Against Lilith 2

Chapter 183 : Battle Against Lilith 2
Rayline.

Cole let out a slow breath, as if trying to calm himself down. I hold on to his side, trying to provide support.

"But I'm not done with you yet," Lilith continues with a sinister smile.

"Cole!" I exclaim as his body abruptly slips out of my arms, throws onto the stairs of the dais, and lands hard on his back. A groan escaped his lips.

"To think a half-breed like you could beat me." Lilith walked haughtily towards Cole, her smile full of disdain. "What happened to all those threats, huh?" she asked, her eyes flashing with cruelty as she lifted her hand, making his eyes widen and I could see her power take hold of his throat. "What happened to ripping me apart, hm?" She took a step closer. Cole remained motionless, his blood-red eyes locked on Lilith, full of malice. "What's wrong? Nothing left to say, mutt?"

But then, Cole smirked. His blood-stained lips curled up, making Lilith frown, puzzled. Slowly, his hands opened, causing the melted pieces of metal to fall to the ground.

"What—" Her words were cut off by a scream as she was grabbed and thrown back, slamming into the wall hard. Before she could even recover, there were huge claws already gripping her neck, squeezing the air out of her.

"Don't you dare lay another fucking finger on my brother," Jesse snarled through gritted teeth, his fiery red eyes glaring down at her.

Lilith growled, "You ungrateful brat."

Jesse grunted before he was sent back by a pulse of power, but he landed on his feet, and the flames in the room shot up. His wings lifted high behind him, and his horns grew, growing in length as a deep growl escaped from his throat.

"You think you can beat me?" Lilith spat, straightening up and scowling contemptuously at Jesse.

"I would be damned if I didn't try. I'm sick of lowering my head and obeying."

"Huh," she said, her lips curled up and smiling wickedly. "Very well."

Jesse launched forward, slashing his claws as she dodged back. He shifted and ducked to swing up. Lilith summoned fire to her hand, my stomach dropped at the sight of it in an instant, but Jesse managed to slide to the side just in time, making the flames fall to the ground and barely missing his face.

Jesse swings his legs out, trying to knock Lilith off her feet, but Lilith strikes him back with her massive wings, hitting Jesse and giving him just enough time to jump back up, preparing her next attack.

Thus, I seized the moment to stand up and rushed over to Cole who was lying on the ground. I knelt on the stairs, my hands shaking as I brushed his tangled hair aside. "Are you in pain?" I asked, my voice sounding hoarse and full of anxiety. My eyes were busy frantically scanning his injuries.

Cole groaned softly, but he still tried to smile weakly. "I'm fine," he replied, though his voice sounded weary. "I just need time to heal for a bit."

My trembling hand touches his cheek gently, my thumb rubbing under the deep knife cut. My gaze lingered on his bleeding shoulder, a wound caused by me. Guilt hit me like a tidal wave, and my chest felt tight.

"Where's Taylor?" he asked softly.

"I..." I looked around, searching for him among the dark shadows that filled the room where he vanished. But he was nowhere to be seen. "I don't know."

However, our attention was snapped away when the sound of Lilith's scream filled the room, followed by her body being slammed violently backwards, landing near the throne. Jesse, despite his body having a few gashes and burns, was still standing strong, the look in his eyes filled with burning anger.

"What's wrong, mother? Aren't you proud?" Jesse smiled menacingly as fire flared at his fingertips, and for a moment, it reminded me of how truly terrifying he could be. "Proud of how strong I've become?" he continued, his voice filled with venom. He thrust the flame towards Lilith, but she simply lifted her hand, brushing the flame easily to the side.

"Proud of what you created?" Jesse blasted the flames again at her, but Lilith once again brushed them aside, the flames hitting the wall, causing the edges of the room to be set ablaze.

She backed against the wall, panting, sweat pouring down her body from the heat that now enveloped the room. It felt like the flames of hell were engulfing us all.

"Well?" Jesse took a step closer with gritted teeth, his eyes full of rage. "Are you!" he shouted, sending out a blast of fire so strong that I noticed Cole wrap himself around me at once, shielding me from anything it might reach. Lilith slams her hand down, and the blast spreads across the room, but Jesse easily waves a hand to keep it away.

Lilith shook her head lightly, her lips twisted into a sly smirk. "That's enough from you," she said as she breathed slowly, full of disdain. "You have always been weak. Getting your feelings involved... a disgrace."

Jesse growled furiously, his eyes burning bright red. His body began to shift, changing into his powerful demon form. Flames blazed around his fists, ready to destroy everything in his path. However, as he got near for another attack on Lilith, his body suddenly froze. His face scrunched up in pain, and he fell to his knees, wincing.

"You forgot your shield... my beloved son," Lilith said in a mocking tone. She tilted her head, her red eyes glaring down piercingly at Jesse. "I'm done playing."

She then turned her gaze over to Chris and Levi, who were standing not far from us. "Get them," she ordered.

At first Chris and Levi seemed hesitant, but then we saw more men coming from the shadows summoned by Lilith, Cole and I immediately jumped to our feet. Cole stood in front of me, his huge wings flaring out as we backed towards the wall. A few of them saw Silas on the ground, clutching his stomach in a pool of blood, but then they began to approach us.

"Back off," Cole snarled, his voice low and menacing as his wings flared.

Then, the sound of Jesse's heartbreaking scream broke the dead air. He fell to his knees, his hands clutched tightly to the sides of his head, as Lilith approached with a triumphant smile on her face. "Jesse." Panic washed over me as the demons stood between the two of us and him.

"Now for you, my son." Lilith said in an eerily calm tone. Jesse's body started to curl in on itself as he shouted out in pain, his brain throbbing as his body felt like it was being ripped apart from the inside. "I need you to stay out of my way."

Lilith released her mental grip on Jesse, and he gasped. His energy was drained, and he could barely move. Her hands grasped around his neck, and she lifted him up until his feet were dangling as his hands grabbed hold of her grasp.

"This is for your own good." She lifted her claws and summoned blinding power to her hands as she pulled them back. But she was not aiming for Jesse's body. She was aiming at his wings.

The scream that came out of him was horrific. The sound of tearing flesh and fire echoed the belly-slicing scream of agony that Jesse let out.

"Jesse!" I screamed, and Cole lunged forward.
