Chapter 37-3

“Well…” Heath glanced at Claire before he asked his father, “What do you think?” Logan stared between the two of them. “I already know about you. You love Claire unconditionally. As for you Claire…” he gazed into her eyes. “Do you love my son? Do you love Heath?” To his surprise, Claire blinked and suddenly looked away. She tilted her head a slight angle and muttered to herself, “Now I see where Heath got that side of him from.” Logan simply raised an eyebrow, waiting for her answer. She sighed heavily and answered as she covered her eyes with the palm of her hand. “Yes! Yes, I do! Geez, you two are so mushy!” Logan noticed that the tips of her ear had turned red. Heath smiled warmly as he watched Claire with loving eyes. Logan stared at his son as Heath walked over to Claire and took hold of her wrist. He gently pulled her hand away from her face before he stared into her eyes and whispered, “I love you too.” Claire’s jaw clenched and she snatched her wrist out of his hand, but she didn’t back away from Heath. They remained standing close to each other. Logan felt a heavy burden lift from him at the sight of the two of them. He was glad that everything had turned out right in the end. However, there had been many obstacles that had to be climbed over. Including his own. Who knew that Claire could trick him so easily? Even his own son had been in the plan. Logan never knew that Heath could act with such angst. When he looked back on it, rather than a sense of awe or surprise, Logan only found it funny. His son had portrayed heartbreak so easily. It must’ve been because he truly did go through some of it along the way. “By the way…” Heath suddenly said. “Did you end up getting my dad to snap?” Claire grinned proudly. “You bet I did. Too bad you weren’t there to see it.” “What’d he do?” Logan watched as Claire turned to him with raised brows. She was flashing him a superior look. “That’s a secret. But I was disappointed he never raised his voice.” Heath looked at his father in confusion, but Logan’s lips remained sealed. Right at that moment, someone’s phone began ringing. It was Heath’s and when he took it out of his pocket, Logan saw that it wasn’t his personal cellphone, but his business one. He had a lot of catching up to do after those days of being in a coma. “Excuse me for a minute.” Heath said and dismissed himself as he walked out the door that led to the patio. He shut the door behind him and Logan slowly turned to look at Claire. “You’re not going to tell him?” Logan asked. Claire raised a brow. “Tell him what?” He chuckled. “If you won’t say anything, neither will I.” “I think that’s a pretty good deal.” She smiled, but then she slowly tilted her head and asked, “Just one question.” Logan gave her a curious look. “Is that trait of yours hereditary?” After a second of silence, Logan burst into laughter. Logan knew Claire wasn’t asking that question on a serious note—neither was she expecting a serious answer. But he told her anyway. “It’s not something I have in my blood.” He said. And that was her answer. >>>>><<<<< Heath came back into his suite and saw that Claire was sitting on the couch in silence, alone. Logan was nowhere to be found. “Did he leave?” Heath asked and Claire looked at him. “Just a few seconds ago.” Heath threw his phone on the coffee table before he sat down next to Claire. “What did you two talk about?” Claire clasped her hands on her lap and smiled in a secretive way. She didn’t answer him and instead asked, “Do you know how your mom and dad met?” He gave her a confused look. “I never bothered to ask.” “Really?” Her eyebrows raised in surprise. “Then I guess I’ll be the first one.” Heath gave Claire a confused look, but she didn’t elaborate her words. In her office, when Logan had snapped, Claire saw a glimpse of who Logan Bishop really was. Honestly, she had been terrified. His eyes, his body language—all of it screamed dangerous. But at the same time, she understood why he responded in such a way. Everyone had a darker side to them, whether they would admit it or not. Logan had been protecting something he loved. And when someone did their best to protect something they loved, they would go through anything to succeed. Claire was like that too. Maybe that was what attracted her and Logan to each other in the first place? Claire knew that Logan had an interesting past and she wanted to know about it. She wanted to know about the experiences he spoke of and his past with Ava, the woman he had chosen to be by his side forever. But that could all wait. After all, she had plenty of time to get to know Logan later. Especially since she would have Heath by her side. A slow smile spread across Claire’s lips and Heath flatly stared at her. She was in a too comfortable state, so he cupped the back of her head and forced her to look at him. Her eyes were big as she stared into his with surprise. “Should you really be so relaxed, Claire?” he said in a low voice. Claire blinked and the realization hit her. “Right now?” she asked with shock. Heath leaned forward and Claire saw the way his white teeth peeked out from behind his lips. It looked as if he was going to take a bite of her. At the same time, Claire also saw the tip of his tongue and her breath hitched. “Right now.” Heath whispered before he leaned his face towards Claire’s with his lips parted, ready to claim her with his kiss.
