Chapter 300 Watching a Movie Together

Chapter 300 Watching a Movie Together

Here she goes again, making indirect accusations whenever she's unhappy, not caring whether relatives are around or not.

Everyone who heard her felt speechless.

Nora frowned tightly, really unable to stand this kind of person.

"Stop it! Nora giving the kid a gift card is a gesture of goodwill." Tanner glared at Jasmine.

Jasmine wasn't scared at all, and said arrogantly as usual, "Aren't I telling the truth? She says she cares about Lily? Lily's tuition is so expensive, and she doesn't offer to help pay even a little. Just two hundred dollars—what's that supposed to do?"

She was just upset that Nora had given the Adams family parents $20,000, and wanted Nora to give more money to her kid.

Nora's face grew colder.

That's why she said Jasmine was never satisfied, always having something to say while waiting to ask them for money.

But Kai was here, so Nora didn't want to argue with her.

She put down the gifts and said to Steven, "Let's go back."

They'd eaten, given the gifts—they could leave now.

Steven glanced at the Adams family, then at Nora, knowing she didn't want to stay here. He took her hand and walked out. "Let's go home."

"Nora, Steven, let me see you out." Tanner followed them out of the house.

The three went downstairs together, with Tanner constantly apologizing, "Sorry about that, Nora. Jasmine just has that kind of mouth, always saying the wrong things."

Nora hesitated, but decided not to mention Jasmine trying to seduce Steven.

After all, they had two kids now, and the younger one was only about three months old. If they really divorced, the kids would suffer too...

"It's fine." Nora nodded at Tanner and followed Steven out of the alley.

Tanner stood behind them, his expression half-lit, half-shadowed.

Actually, he knew Jasmine had unrealistic ambitions, but for the sake of the kids, he had to turn a blind eye to some things...

Nora and Steven walked out of the alley.

"Leave your car here. I'll have James come get it. Let me take you back." Steven saw her low spirits and spoke up.

Whenever she came to the Adams family, she was always in a bad mood.

"Okay." Nora agreed with a faint smile.

"It's still pretty early. Let's go see a movie." A hint of tenderness appeared in Steven's cool eyes.

Nora was about to refuse, but thinking about how they'd missed the movie twice before, it had always been a regret.

"Okay." She agreed, and she knew Steven was trying to cheer her up.

They drove to the movie theater.

Nora said with a smile, "Let me buy the tickets this time."

She opened her phone and picked a comedy. The new year had just started—perfect for watching something cheerful.

Then she took out her compact and carefully touched up her makeup in the small mirror.

Steven glanced at her. Her mood seemed better, her expression bright and captivating.

After getting out of the car, Steven took her hand.

The warm feeling in her hand made Nora's mood even better.

This was the atmosphere she liked—going out with Steven, walking around, watching movies, eating and drinking, just enjoying themselves.

"The movie starts in ten minutes." After getting the tickets, Nora told Steven.

"When can we go in?" Steven asked her.

"Five minutes before it starts."

"Should we get popcorn or something?" Steven turned to look at the service counter.

"I bought it on my phone." Nora showed him the group deal voucher. "Wait here, I'll go exchange it."

She jogged over to get the popcorn and cola, her eyes sparkling. This time, she could finally fulfill this wish!

After getting everything, Nora walked back with a smile, but then she saw Steven on the phone.

His brows were tightly furrowed—something must have happened.

Nora didn't know why, but she had a bad feeling. That call was probably from Scarlett.

This long-awaited movie wasn't going to happen after all.

Nora stopped in her tracks, looking dejected.

Steven glanced at her, held her small hand, and said coldly to Scarlett on the other end, "Sorry, I'm busy today."

Nora's eyes brightened slightly.

He refused Scarlett?

"But you're still on vacation." Scarlett looked at the flowers in her hand, her expression hopeful. "I have an important test coming up. I'm a bit scared and want you with me."

She had deliberately put on soft, vulnerable makeup today, making herself look even more fragile and pitiful.

"I'll have Clarence go with you."

"What are you doing?" Scarlett's face darkened, her tone turning cold before quickly softening again. "Are you with Nora?"

"Yes, we're out watching a movie."

"You're watching a movie? Don't you dislike crowded places?"

"When you're married, you should change for your wife." Steven said this while looking at Nora.

Nora's mood improved.

But Scarlett's face darkened, her emotions poor. "Then I wish you both a pleasant date."

Steven hung up.

"Did you get everything?" Steven turned to ask Nora, his eyes full of tenderness.

Nora showed him. "Got it all—popcorn and cola. Was that Scarlett on the phone?"

"Yes, she has a test later and says she's scared to go alone. I'm having Clarence go."

"Why don't you hire a female nurse for her?" That way, Scarlett wouldn't keep bothering Steven, right?

"Already did." Steven answered, taking Nora's hand as they entered the theater.

Nora felt sweet inside.

This movie—they were finally going to watch it.

Nora had bought corner seats, two seats separated from the others, like two isolated chairs.

Nora was surprised. "When I bought the tickets, I saw there were only two left. I didn't expect the location to be so remote."

"Isn't this pretty good?"

"Good? What's good about this spot? It's so far from the screen, what can we even see?"

"If we can't see, we can do things couples like to do." He glanced at her.

Nora's face turned red. So that was his plan.

Steven had her sit on the inside, holding her hand tightly, and asked, "Have you been to the movies with other guys?"

"Yes." Nora nodded honestly. "When I was in school, I went with a friend."

"A guy?"

"Yes."

Steven narrowed his eyes, somewhat annoyed. "Did he hold your hand? Hug you?"

Nora felt he was misunderstanding something and was about to explain when Steven kissed her.

He held her waist tightly, the heat from his palm seeming to penetrate through her clothes to her skin.

Nora's heartbeat quickened.

The intimate scene from this morning couldn't help but replay in her mind.

Nora's face flushed as she told him, "That's enough, this is a movie theater."

Steven didn't give her a chance to speak, kissing her again. Only after he'd had enough did he release her.

Nora was breathing heavily. If she hadn't been leaning on his shoulder, she would have collapsed.

"Did that guy do this to you?" Steven asked her in a low voice.

Nora saw the dangerous look in Steven's eyes and deliberately teased him, saying with a smile, "Of course, we were developing our friendship."

"Developing your friendship?" Steven was extremely displeased, glaring at her. He pulled her over and kissed her again. "Where did he hold you? Where did he kiss you?"

"About the same as you." Nora continued teasing him.

Steven's eyes were practically shooting fire. He pulled her over and kissed her thoroughly, warning, "From now on, besides me, no one can hold you or kiss you. Got it?"

Nora was dizzy from his kisses.

He still wasn't satisfied, biting her lip and threatening hoarsely, "Do you understand? Don't get close to other men."

"What about you?" Nora asked back. "What are you going to do about Scarlett?"

Steven's hand was still on her waist, gently pecking her lips. "She's seriously ill. I'm just taking care of her a bit for the sake of our friendship over the years."

"Can you not take care of her?" Nora was somewhat concerned. She held his waist tightly, not wanting Steven to keep looking after Scarlett.

"Only after she gets a bit better."

Nora felt a bit disappointed and didn't want to kiss him anymore. Steven held the back of her head. "Focus when kissing."

There were a bunch of people in the theater watching.

Nora's face turned red with nervousness.

They continued kissing when Steven's phone rang.

Nora jumped, afraid someone would discover them secretly kissing, and quickly pushed Steven away. "Your phone's ringing."

Steven acknowledged and took out his phone.

Nora saw it was a call from Clarence.

Steven frowned and answered. "Hello."

"Mr. York, Mrs. Scarlett York passed out during her examination because her blood oxygen was too low. We can't reach Mr. Theo York, and the doctor is now asking us to notify her family."

Scarlett's family was still abroad and hadn't returned this year.

Steven frowned and looked at Nora. "Scarlett passed out during her examination. We can't reach Theo, and her family isn't in the country."

Nora understood what he meant—he had to go to the hospital.

She couldn't help feeling disappointed. The movie had just barely started, but the other person was seriously ill. It would seem heartless to refuse.

But she just felt upset.

If Scarlett kept bothering him like this, and he kept taking care of her, wasn't that hurting Nora too?

And she felt Scarlett was too fake, always passing out at critical moments.

Her instinct told her it was deliberate.

"You watch the movie first. If I'm not back when it ends, find somewhere to get a drink. We'll have dinner together tonight—wait for me." After saying this, Steven left.

Nora sat there holding the popcorn.

She gave a bitter smile.

Looking at the movie again, it had just started for about ten minutes. The plot was funny, but as she laughed, she started crying.

This movie would ultimately be a scar on her heart...

Nora watched the entire movie by herself.

She'd cried already. She wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and left the theater in her heels.

She didn't wait for Steven. She walked aimlessly down the street, not knowing where to go and not wanting to go home.

As she walked, she saw a very eye-catching restaurant with extremely upscale decor. Nora pushed the door open and walked in—when she was in a bad mood, she wanted to eat something good.

But it was mealtime, and the restaurant was full.

Only one seat by the window remained.

That seat wasn't actually empty—a well-dressed, bejeweled lady was sitting there.

She wore a light-colored suit, with a gentle aura slowly emanating from her, the kind of peaceful serenity that comes after years of settling.
