Chapter 183 Nora Is Jealous
Nora turned her head and saw the hotel entrance decorated quite impressively. Several men in suits were standing on the steps, preparing for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Steven stood right in the center, holding a pair of golden scissors. He looked very commanding, and as always, he was so good-looking that people couldn't help but stare.
It really was Steven!
Nora was a bit stunned. She instinctively pulled the car over to the side of the road and said to Olivia, "Olivia, wait in the car for a moment. I'm going to go check it out."
She unbuckled her seatbelt, got out of the car, and walked toward the hotel entrance.
At that moment, James had already noticed her from a distance and quickly leaned close to Steven's ear to whisper a reminder, "Mr. York, Mrs. York is here!"
He felt he had to warn Steven, otherwise his previously hidden identity might be exposed.
From a distance, Steven glanced at Nora, and his expression clearly changed.
Nora was also a bit confused, not understanding what was going on in the scene before her.
She couldn't help but mutter to herself: 'Why does it feel like my dear is being surrounded by a bunch of people? Isn't he just a regular supervisor? Why are all these rich-looking bosses circling around him?'
While cutting the ribbon, Steven quietly instructed James, "Have someone stop Nora."
He grew nervous, remembering what Nora had once said—if he really was from the York family, she would divorce him.
Thinking of this, Steven made up his mind. He absolutely couldn't let Nora know his true identity.
"Dear!" Nora waved at him, trying to get his attention.
Steven did see her, but he instinctively looked away, pretending not to notice.
Nora's heart sank.
What did he mean? He clearly saw her but deliberately turned his head away. Was he embarrassed by her and didn't want others to know about their relationship?
She felt a bit hurt, and her gaze fell on a woman standing beside Steven.
The woman wore intricate makeup and an eye-catching slip dress. Her eyes kept drifting toward Steven, her face full of admiration and affection.
Nora's heart tightened, guessing this woman was the voice from the phone call earlier.
She was about to walk over when she was suddenly blocked by a group of bodyguards.
"Hello, there's a ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place here. Unauthorized people cannot go further." The bodyguard stood in front of her.
"Excuse me, my husband is in there." Nora tried to explain.
"Sorry, that's not possible." The bodyguards stood firm, showing no sign of budging.
Nora looked closely at these bodyguards and felt they looked somewhat familiar. They looked like people that were around Chris.
As soon as she spoke, the bodyguards' expressions changed, but they still said firmly, "Miss, please leave here as soon as possible."
They made a gesture asking her to leave.
Nora had no choice but to turn and leave.
Before leaving, she couldn't help but look back at Steven one more time.
He stood in the center of the crowd, looking so distant, like someone she couldn't reach at all.
Nora suddenly felt that the distance between him and her had grown very far.
She couldn't quite describe the feeling—there was just a heavy weight pressing on her chest that made her deeply uncomfortable.
Back in the car, Olivia asked her, "Didn't you go to find Steven? Why are you back so quickly?"
"He was busy, so I didn't go over," Nora said quietly, her mood clearly down.
"You don't look well. Did something happen?"
"Nothing," Nora responded softly and didn't say more.
Throughout the ride, she remained silent, her mind was in chaos, she was unable to calm down.
That evening.
Nora was cooking in the kitchen, but her mind, was constantly replaying the scene that happened that afternoon, So, she couldn't help but sigh.
She didn't understand why Steven pretended not to know her, and he hadn't sent a message to explain either, leaving her very confused.
Halfway through her cooking, Steven came home.
When he entered, he changed his shoes and casually removed his tie.
Usually at this time, Nora would happily run out and call him "dear," but today she didn't say a word, she just quietly busied herself in the kitchen. The atmosphere was quiet and somewhat oppressive.
"Cooking?" Steven stood at the kitchen doorway, sensing something was off, and took the initiative to speak.
Nora glanced at the time—7 PM.
Didn't he say he'd be back at eight? Was he afraid she'd find out about his date with another woman, so he came back early?
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She started banging the spatula against the wok with deliberate force, the loud clanging sounds made her feelings perfectly clear as she completely ignored Steven.
"What's wrong?" Steven walked into the kitchen, his tone somewhat helpless. "Why are you so angry?"
"Nothing," Nora said sullenly.
Steven could tell she was definitely angry, so he softened his tone even more. "Why didn't you wait for me at the hotel entrance this afternoon?"
"There were too many people. I was afraid of getting crushed, so I left first." Nora's tone was cold. She brought out the dishes without even looking at him.
"Time to eat." She went to knock on Olivia's door.
Steven had been given the cold shoulder, and his expression wasn't great either.
"Steven, you're back?" Olivia came out of her room.
"Olivia." Steven nodded.
Olivia smiled and said, "Thanks so much for today's help."
"No need to thank me, it was nothing," Steven said, glancing at Nora.
Although Nora was in a bad mood, she still served Steven a bowl of soup. She remembered that Steven had helped a lot recently, so she tried to stay polite and didn't lose her temper at him.
During the meal, she didn't say a word, just kept her head down, drinking soup.
Steven knew very well that she was definitely angry.
He withdrew his gaze and turned to Olivia instead. "Olivia, didn't you say you wanted to get back the money from Terry and Bianca? I had someone look into it. Here are two files for you. They should help you get the money back."
He handed the documents to Olivia.
"When did you have someone investigate this?" Olivia flipped through the documents, surprised.
"This afternoon," Steven answered flatly.
The documents were very detailed, even including the times and locations of purchases. Olivia could probably recover about three hundred thousand dollars.
"How did you find all this? Even the purchase records?" Olivia was shocked.
"I have a friend who specializes in this. It wasn't hard to ask for his help." Steven answered calmly.
"You have such a wide network!" Olivia said gratefully. "With this evidence, they definitely won't dare to deny it. After I deal with this, I'll treat you both to dinner."
Steven glanced at Nora. "Ask her if we could come."
Nora kept her head down, not stopping her soup-drinking motion, her expression indifferent, showing no interest at all.
Normally, if Olivia said something like this, Nora would have happily responded, but today she was clearly distracted.
Olivia also sensed the awkward atmosphere and smiled as she handed the documents to her. "Nora, take a look. Steven helped me investigate this. He's really amazing. With these documents, Bianca and Terry definitely can't escape."
Although Nora was happy about it, she really wasn't in the mood. She just nodded. "I know. Let's eat."
Steven served her some food, but she just kept her head down, eating, her attitude cold.
Steven's lips pressed tighter, feeling somewhat displeased.
After dinner, Nora cleared out all the dishes and put the bowls in the dishwasher.
Olivia took the opportunity to quietly ask Steven, "Did something happen this afternoon? Nora's been like this since she came back from the hotel."
Steven glanced at Nora's back and said to Olivia, "I think I know the reason. Olivia, go rest. I'll talk to her in a bit."
"Okay." Olivia returned to her room, leaving the space for the two of them.
Nora cleaned up the kitchen and took the trash to the door. She turned on the robot vacuum, put on gloves, and started wiping the tables and chairs.
When she was in a bad mood, she liked doing housework. Watching the house gradually become clean helped her mood slowly improve.
But Steven had been waiting to talk to her, while she just kept doing housework, not giving him a chance.
"Nora." Steven glanced at his watch, his tone calm. "Can we talk?"
"Wait a bit. I need to do housework now." Her voice was low, her emotions still not recovered, and she did not want to talk.
"Need my help?"
Nora ignored him, thinking to herself: 'If you want to help, go get a cloth yourself. Don't just ask.'
Steven waited for a while, and seeing no response from her, turned and went out the door.
Hearing the door close, Nora suddenly felt an emptiness in her chest. She turned to look—the door was already shut. Steven had left.
She felt both disappointed and aggrieved.
He just left like that? Couldn't he see she was in a bad mood? He didn't even try to comfort her, but instead ran out. It was really annoying.
Actually, Steven had gone to the cake shop downstairs.
He walked into the cake shop at a leisurely pace, spent a long time choosing from the display window, thinking Nora would like strawberry flavor, so he bought a strawberry cake. "Please wrap it up for me."
The server's eyes lit up seeing such a handsome man. "Sir, do you need anything else?"
"No." Steven calmly swiped his card, took the cake, and left.
Walking out of the cake shop, he saw there was no flower shop nearby, but there was a small flower stall, so he bought a pot of pink and white orchids.
Thinking that Nora liked eating snacks, he went to the supermarket and bought some snacks and fruit, bringing everything home together.
Steven swiped his card to enter and found that Nora was no longer in the living room.
She was cleaning the bathroom.
Steven quietly set things down and walked to the bathroom doorway.
Nora was wiping the counter while facing the mirror. When she looked up, she suddenly saw a tall figure behind her and screamed, "Ah!"
She thought something scary had happened to her.
Steven stood behind her, frowning. "Why do you get afraid so easily?"
Nora turned around and realized it was Steven. Her breathing slowed down.
"Can you make some noise when you come home?" She was still a bit shaken, her face full of complaint.
Steven looked at her in the mirror, his expression cold. "Come out for a moment."
His tone was somewhat cold.
Nora felt he seemed a bit unhappy.
He went out and came back with a stern face—was he going to criticize her about something?
Although she felt a bit defiant inside, she still put down the cloth and cautiously walked out. "What?"
"Come here." Steven led her toward the living room.
Halfway there, Steven suddenly stopped.
Nora didn't notice and bumped right into his back.
His back was as hard as a wall. She rubbed her forehead. "What is it exactly?"
Steven pointed at the table, his voice low. "Look for yourself. What's that?"
