Chapter 138 Nora in Danger
Nora gripped the hem of her clothes tightly.
Of course, she wanted the next order. If Duke worked with her long-term, placing one order per month, she could make seven or eight hundred thousand dollars a year just from Duke's business alone. Who wouldn't want that kind of deal?
So she took a deep breath and decided to bite the bullet.
Anyway, Duke was going back to his country the day after tomorrow. There would be few chances to see them again, so she wasn't afraid of being teased by them anymore!
She straightened her back and stood up. Andrew caught sight of her determined look, and his blood boiled with excitement.
What a woman who would risk her life for her career!
"But how do I go down?" Nora sneaked a peek below the bungee platform. She couldn't even see the lake, just a vast expanse of white fog. She closed her eyes in fear, still very scared.
"Let me explain." Andrew brushed aside the staff member and personally explained to Nora, "You just stand with your back facing out, then I'll count to three and push you down, and you can experience this ultimate adventure."
"Okay." Nora had no way out anyway, so she stepped onto the bungee platform.
She closed her eyes and was just about to take a deep breath when Andrew pushed her down.
"Ah!"
Her scream pierced the sky. As Nora fell, she used all her strength to curse—
"Bastard!"
That jerk Mr. Hayes! She hadn't even counted to three yet, and he pushed her down!
Nora's body went weightless, plummeting downward!
In that instant, she had no thoughts in her mind at all. She just felt the wind was strong, and she didn't dare open her eyes.
Her heart felt compressed too, so tight that her breathing stopped.
After pushing her down, Andrew laughed excitedly. Now he'd gotten revenge for everything!
A moment later, Nora was pulled up by the machine.
Her face was pale, and she glared at Andrew darkly from mid-air.
Andrew deliberately asked, "Ms. Adams, was it fun?"
"Why did you push me just now?" Nora glared at him. That bungee jump nearly scared her into a heart attack.
After the safety equipment was removed, her legs kept shaking.
Andrew said without any apology, "I was just joking with you. Otherwise, you would have hesitated forever and never dared to go down."
Nora snorted softly in her heart, angry but not daring to speak out.
Andrew ignored her and walked to the bungee platform. His equipment was already secured, and he was about to strike an elegant pose...
Nora, behind him, seized the moment and kicked his butt.
Duke fell silent.
Then he watched helplessly as Andrew fell down in an extremely undignified posture.
Duke thought to himself, Nora is really brave!
She's the first woman who dares to kick Andrew!
Having gotten revenge for earlier, Nora was in a great mood. She just didn't know what kind of mood Andrew was in now.
His mood was furious!
He wanted to kill her!
When he came back up, his face was also dark, staring at Nora.
Nora flashed a toothy smile, "Mr. Hayes, just joking around."
She threw his own words back at him.
Andrew snorted coldly. What a bold woman, daring to ambush him from behind?
The third time was Duke's turn.
Nora and Andrew stood to the side, glaring at each other.
Nora thought Duke's assistant was too awful. He could mess with others, but others couldn't mess with him. He was just an assistant, yet had such a big temper!
To ease the atmosphere, Nora tried to say a few words to him, but he didn't respond, clearly very angry.
So petty!
Nora grumbled in her heart.
After waiting almost an hour, Duke still hadn't come up.
Nora got a bit anxious, "What's going on? Why hasn't Mr. Wood come up yet? Did something happen?"
Andrew ignored her.
Nora had to ask the staff, "Excuse me, our friend went down but hasn't come up. What's happening?"
"He left from below. He's probably waiting for you at the foot of the mountain." For bungee jumping, you could choose to return the same way or be picked up by a boat below.
"I see." Nora breathed a sigh of relief. As long as nothing happened, that was good. She walked over to tell Andrew, "Mr. Wood left from below. He's at the foot of the mountain. Let's go too, take the cable car down."
Andrew snorted and walked ahead of her, expressionless.
Nora thought this man was more dramatic than a woman!
She checked the time. It was already past four in the afternoon. Going back now would be just right.
She walked while messaging Steven on Facebook, not noticing that she had already followed Andrew off the correct path.
They had walked into a densely forested area.
Nora: [Steven, you don't need to pick me up at the hospital later. I'll go home by myself. You can just go straight home.]
She wanted to save Steven some time so he wouldn't have to make a trip to the hospital before going home.
She didn't want him to be so tired.
Steven replied after a moment: [You're going home by yourself?]
Nora: [I'll probably be home around five.]
Steven had just finished a meeting. He turned to ask Clarence, "Do I have anything else later?"
"Mr. York, there are two more meetings," Clarence answered.
Steven thought for a moment, "Cancel one for me. I need to go home early tonight."
Nora was waiting at home, and he didn't want to go back too late.
Steven: [What do you want to eat tonight?]
Nora: [Aren't we cooking at home?]
Steven: [Too much trouble. We still have to clean up after eating. Let's eat something ready-made tonight.]
Nora thought that was fine too. She thought about it and replied: [Do you dare to eat frog legs?]
She knew a restaurant that made really good frog legs.
Steven: [Those things have a lot of parasites.]
Nora pouted: [Then let's eat fish? That's good too.]
Steven: [Okay, I'll buy some on my way home from work.]
Nora: [No need, we can just order delivery.]
Steven: [Delivery isn't healthy.]
He usually had his Michelin restaurants prepare food and send it over, which guaranteed hygiene.
Steven sent another message: [I'll bring it back. I also want to buy some sashimi. Do you dare to eat raw fish slices and sweet shrimp?]
Nora felt like a country bumpkin again. She had never eaten those, only salmon.
She replied: [I've never had them before, but you can buy some. I'll try them tonight.]
Steven: [Okay.]
"Nora." Andrew suddenly stopped, turned around, his handsome face very grim.
Nora snapped back to attention, her big eyes looking at him, "What's wrong?"
"Haven't you noticed something's wrong with the path?" Andrew had walked until there was no more path before realizing there was a problem.
They had walked into the forest!
Nora was stunned, "What? I was on my phone the whole time, I wasn't paying attention to the path."
She had just been following Andrew without checking if the path was right.
"This path is wrong." Andrew walked back.
Nora quickly put away her phone and joined him in looking for the way back.
It was already four or five o'clock. In a while, it would be dark. If they couldn't get out of the forest before dark, they'd be in trouble.
Suddenly, Andrew's whole body sank downward!
Nora's face changed. In that critical moment, she lunged forward to grab his hand, and then both of them fell into the trap together...
When they fell, Andrew was at the bottom. His leg was pierced by something, and he screamed in pain.
"It hurts!" His face turned pale.
Nora quickly rolled off him. The trap was pitch black. She turned on her phone's flashlight and took a look.
"Let me see." Nora went to check Andrew's leg.
His thigh had been pierced by a glass bottle. Blood flowed from his dark-colored pants, the color striking.
"You were injured by a glass bottle." Nora looked up at him.
Andrew's face was pale. He said uncomfortably, "Why is it that every time I go out with you, nothing good happens?"
They'd met a few times, and something happened every time.
The first time was an allergic reaction, the second time was being scared by a snake, the third time they fell into a trap together, and he got his thigh pierced by a glass bottle.
Maybe he and Nora just weren't meant to meet?
"You're injured, so talk less." Nora was too lazy to deal with him. She stood up and looked at the outside of the trap.
The trap was too deep. With just her and an injured Andrew, there was no way they could climb out.
The trap was overgrown with weeds. It must have been abandoned for many years.
"Is anyone there?" Nora shouted a few times.
No one responded from outside. The sky gradually darkened. Nora looked at her phone - there was no signal at all.
She couldn't even call the police!
She walked back to Andrew's side and said with a heavy breath, "We probably can't get out."
York Development Group.
When Steven got off work, Clarence had already prepared tonight's food.
He carried it to Steven's car, "Mr. York, here's the food."
"OK." Steven put the things away and drove home himself, in a pretty good mood.
A while later, he arrived at Riverside Apartment and drove into the underground parking garage. He checked the time - six o'clock, just right.
As he entered the door using his fingerprint, his thin lips curved into a smile.
But there was no one home.
"Nora." Steven turned on the lights and strode in with his long legs.
No one was home.
Steven was a bit confused. He loosened his tie and called Nora, but the call wouldn't go through.
Steven frowned.
What's going on?
Didn't she say she'd be home at five?
It's already six. Why isn't she back yet?
He set out the food and waited idly for a while, then went to take a shower since he'd need to shower later anyway.
After his shower, it was almost seven, and Nora still wasn't back.
Steven finally felt something was wrong.
He picked up his phone and called Olivia, "Olivia, is Nora at the hospital with you?"
"No, after she went out with a client today, she never came back."
Steven unconsciously pressed his lips together. "Where did she go with the client?"
"She said Cloud Mountain." Olivia also felt something was wrong, her face becoming serious, "Nora's not home yet? She told me this morning before leaving that she'd be back by evening. Did something happen?"
Steven's face darkened.
She had told him the same thing that afternoon, saying she'd be home at five, but it was already six.
Thinking that an accident might have happened, Steven's face changed completely. He dialed Clarence, "Clarence, Nora went to Cloud Mountain with a client today and then disappeared. Her phone won't connect. Contact the management of Cloud Mountain right now and find out what's going on."
"Yes!" Clarence immediately got to work.
Steven paced back and forth at home, his whole heart unable to find peace.
