Chapter 112 Steven Brings Nora a Late-Night Snack
Willie grabbed her hand, "Honey, please stop being mad at me. I messed up this time, but I'll treat you better from now on."
Olivia coldly pulled his hand away and closed her eyes.
Willie tried talking to her several more times.
"Olivia, I'm not even holding what Tanner did against me anymore. Isn't that enough?"
"He beat me up so badly. I was laid up at home for two days. You have no idea what I went through..."
"If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have just reported it to the police. I was going to sue him too, but I let it go for the sake of your dignity."
Willie went on and on for a while. Seeing that Olivia really didn't want to talk, he left.
He'd come back next time. Eventually, there would be a day when he could convince her.
Olivia glanced at the time.
When Willie was begging for forgiveness earlier, she had deliberately checked the time. It hadn't even been an hour since he started begging, and he already couldn't take it anymore and left.
And he said he wanted to ask for her forgiveness?
As far as she was concerned, these were crocodile tears!
Nora got home close to ten o'clock. She changed her shoes and went to Steven's room to find him.
The master bedroom was empty.
Steven wasn't back yet. Had he been this busy lately? He seemed to always be working overtime.
Nora went back to her own room and called him, "Hello, Steven, you're not back yet?"
"You're home?" Steven was currently talking business at a club.
A circle of big shots sat around him, all watching his expression. Hearing him answer the phone, they all focused intently, listening carefully.
Vivian was there too.
She sat on the other side of the sofa, holding a glass of red wine, deliberately sitting across from him, looking at Steven with seductive eyes.
This way, Steven would see her as soon as he looked up.
Too bad Steven completely ignored her.
"Yes, Willie came by today. He hired a caregiver and said I don't need to take care of Olivia anymore, so he told me to come home first. When will you be back?" Nora missed him a bit when she came home and didn't see him.
"My business dinner is almost over." Steven closed the file in his hand.
Everyone held their breath.
Was Steven leaving?
Hadn't this gathering just started not long ago?
Steven looked at the grilled meat on the table and suddenly asked, "Are you hungry? Do you want some grilled meat?"
Hearing Steven ask if the other person was hungry, Vivian gripped her wine glass tightly.
Was this Steven's wife?
"Are you having a business dinner at a barbecue restaurant?" Nora asked him on the phone.
"Yes," Steven replied, looking at the menu on the table. Clarence understood and quickly brought it over. Steven lifted his hand to flip through it, "There are chicken wings, sausages, beef... What do you want to eat? Just tell me, and I'll bring it back once it's grilled."
So he really was talking business at a barbecue restaurant?
Nora found it amusing just thinking about it. She imagined Steven in his suit and tie, talking business at a barbecue restaurant - it was just too incongruous!
"Then I want..." Nora rattled off several items, "And bring back a few bottles of alcohol too."
When eating grilled meat, you had to have beer with it, of course.
Plus, she'd been feeling down lately and wanted to drink a bit to get tipsy.
"Okay." Steven closed the menu and had Clarence go rush the kitchen to prioritize the grilled meat he ordered, "Go keep an eye on it. Bring it over as soon as it's grilled, and get a few bottles of red wine too. I'm taking them back."
"Yes!" Clarence went out with the menu.
Everyone knew Steven wouldn't stay long, so they immediately started handing out business cards and pitching projects, trying to make Steven remember them as quickly as possible.
Vivian had wanted to go over and talk to Steven, but a crowd of people surrounded him, pushing and jostling her so much that she couldn't get through at all.
Nora had just opened her computer when she noticed a shirt thrown in the trash can by her feet.
It was Philip's!
Nora picked up the shirt, looking exasperated.
It must have been Steven, that childish guy!
He threw away Philip's shirt while she wasn't home!
Good thing her room's trash can usually only had paper documents in it, so it wasn't dirty.
This wasn't even her stuff - how could Steven just throw it away?
She helplessly took Philip's shirt to the bathroom to wash it. After washing it, afraid Steven would find it, she didn't dare hang it on the balcony. Instead, she secretly hung it on the small balcony next to the kitchen, where they kept miscellaneous items. Steven usually didn't go there.
If he found it, he'd definitely throw it away again!
After hanging up the clothes, just as she was about to take a shower, her phone rang.
It was a call from Mr. Hayes.
"Hello." She answered, walking into her room.
"Ms. Adams, I wanted to ask you, are you free tomorrow? Mr. Wood wants to look around South City." Andrew's voice came through the phone, especially low and pleasant.
Only then did Nora remember this. She apologized to him, "I'm sorry, Mr. Hayes. My sister was in the hospital recently, and I need to take care of her. Could we do this - I'll get you a tour guide to show you around South City?"
She could have Amelia go. Amelia was from South City and could communicate with them. Having her as a guide would be perfect.
Andrew frowned. He didn't want to switch people. "Your sister's in the hospital? Is it serious?"
"Pretty serious." She almost lost her uterus - it was a big deal. Nora said softly, "I'm really sorry."
Andrew felt somewhat disappointed. Why did her sister have to be hospitalized right now?
How unfortunate.
He sighed, "It's okay. We're staying in South City for another week anyway. We can meet up when you have time."
"Okay." Nora agreed.
Just then, Steven came back. He pushed open her room door and asked with a stern look, "Whose call was that?"
"A client's," Nora responded, looking at him.
Steven's tall figure leaned against the door, his eyes seeming to examine whether her words were true or false.
Nora felt a bit uncomfortable being stared at. Steven was great in every way, except that he was a bit suspicious.
"Did you bring back the grilled meat?" Nora asked him.
"I did." He turned and walked out.
Nora followed him out and saw a big bag of grilled meat on the dining table, along with 6 bottles of red wine.
She was stunned. "Why did you buy red wine?"
She wanted beer!
"Didn't you tell me to bring back a few bottles of alcohol?" Steven was different from her - they drank red wine.
Nora looked at him with a smile, "Don't you know that grilled meat and beer are the perfect match?"
Steven's face looked terrible.
Ever since he saw her on the phone with a male client, his expression had been off.
Nora didn't dare say anything more to avoid making him unhappy.
Steven had worked late and still bought her grilled meat - that was already very good. This was not the time to be picky, or it would be the start of an argument.
"Thank you, honey." Nora tried to please him with a sweet smile.
Steven's face improved just a tiny bit.
Seeing it was working, Nora quickly opened the takeout bag on the table, took out the grilled meat inside, and worked hard to please him, "You bought so much grilled meat. Did you eat already?"
Steven looked up, "No, I just had some drinks."
Nora handed him a grilled sausage, "Then let's eat together."
Steven ignored her, still standing there coldly looking at her.
Nora walked over and coaxed him playfully, "Come on, let's eat..."
