Chapter 55 Bought a Lot of Clothes for My Wife
Nora watched him walk away and suddenly remembered, "Hey, I just remembered something. When I was arguing with Bianca downstairs, I saw him standing next to us, messing around on his phone. It was kinda weird that he didn't sit on the stone bench nearby. He just stood there."
Steven's face showed a brief flash of discomfort, and he quickly changed the subject, "Your strap broke. Let's go get you some new clothes."
"Alright," Nora replied, not thinking much of it, and followed him across the street to check out the shops.
Every time Nora looked at a piece of clothing, she'd check the price tag.
Steven stood beside her, looking annoyed. "Why do you keep checking the prices?"
"Well, duh, I'm looking at the price. If it's too expensive, I'm not buying it!" She picked up a dress and flipped the tag, which read $188. She immediately put it back. "One hundred eighty bucks? Even with a 20% discount, that's still $144. Nope, not happening."
Steven sighed helplessly.
After browsing for a while, Nora turned to him, "No way, it's just the start of the season, and all the clothes are new arrivals. They're too expensive. I'll wait for Black Friday. Let's just forget about it for now."
Steven's gaze lingered on her, as if he wanted to strangle her.
Nora shrank back slightly.
Steven found an opportunity and went to speak softly with a store clerk.
The clerk's eyes lit up upon seeing such a handsome man.
Afterward, the clerk nodded excitedly, closed the store, and replaced the 20% off signs with 90% off ones.
With the store closed, no one else could come in.
Steven walked back to her side and casually said, "Nora, you must have seen it wrong. This store isn't offering 20% off; it's 90% off."
"90% off?"
Nora was looking at a dress and turned to check. The 20% off sign was suddenly gone, replaced by a prominent 90% off sign!
Nora could hardly believe it.
New arrivals at 90% off?
Not even Black Friday offers such prices!
"Is your store really offering 90% off?" Nora didn't believe it and went to confirm with the clerk.
The clerk smiled, "Yes, everything is 90% off."
Oh my God!
Nora's eyes lit up as she went to grab the dress she had looked at earlier. With a 90% discount, the $180 dress was now just $18. She could afford that!
As she tried on the dress, two clerks nearby started gossiping.
"That lady is so lucky. Her husband closed the store and told her everything was 90% off just to make her happy."
"Yeah, he's so handsome and romantic! If I had a husband like that, I'd slap myself if we argued!"
The clerks excitedly chatted.
Nora came out in a vintage red dress.
The deep red vintage style looked especially elegant on her.
Steven stood behind her, his eyes lighting up as he saw her bright smile.
Nora looked stunning in vintage style, with a unique charm.
"How does it look?" Nora asked Steven.
Steven nodded, "Not bad. It suits you well."
Nora beamed, looking at herself in the full-length mirror. The woman in the reflection had a slim waist and long legs, looking stunningly beautiful.
It really did look good!
The first dress she tried on was perfect. Nora smiled and said, "I'll take this one and wear it out."
"With a 90% discount, aren't you going to buy a few more?" Steven knew her well and raised an eyebrow.
Nora thought about it. Since it was the change of seasons, she would need new clothes anyway.
Excitedly, she said, "You're right. With a 90% discount, I might as well stock up on some winter outfits."
Perfect timing to get all her winter clothes sorted!
"Go ahead and choose." Steven smiled lazily, lounging on the couch as he waited for her.
Nora happily picked out clothes, unable to stop smiling.
She had never encountered such a great deal on brand-name clothes!
She picked out over a dozen items, from innerwear to outerwear, and even selected two cashmere scarves, which felt amazing to the touch.
She chose a pink and white one for herself and a gray and black one for Steven.
"I get one too?" Steven raised an eyebrow, a casual smile playing on his lips.
"Yep, one for each of us!" Matching couple scarves.
Steven saw through her little scheme but said nothing, simply replying, "Take it."
"Great!" Her eyes sparkled.
What a steal!
Nora said, "Steven, should I pick out a few things for you, too?" There was a men's section, and she had glanced at it; the clothes looked decent.
Steven replied casually, "Nah, I've got plenty of clothes."
His clothes were all custom-made, delivered each season.
Since he said so, Nora didn't push further but couldn't help asking, "If you don't usually buy clothes, where do they come from?"
Steven paused and said, "The company provides them."
"Really?"
"Yeah, since I often meet clients, the company wants me to dress formally, so they prepare a lot of clothes for me. But the clothes aren't mine; they're just for me to wear." He said this so that if the clothes ever disappeared, Nora wouldn't suspect anything.
Nora nodded, thinking it must be like in the movies, where the company has a large warehouse full of brand-name clothes for executives to use but not keep.
No wonder Steven's clothes were never washed at home; they probably couldn't be washed privately!
After buying the clothes, Steven went to pay.
He swiped over $3,000.
Nora reached for the receipt, but Steven rolled it up and tossed it in the trash.
Nora was surprised, "Why did you throw it away? If there's a problem with the clothes, we need the receipt to return them."
"These are special sale items, no returns allowed," Steven explained.
"Okay." A 90% discount was crazy enough; no returns made sense. Nora carried the dozen bags. "How much did we spend?"
"Just a few hundred dollars," Steven said casually.
Nora was satisfied and smiled, "Such a great deal!"
She had already bought her New Year's clothes, so she wouldn't need to buy any then.
Passing a shoe store, Steven suddenly remembered something and said, "Let's buy some shoes too."
He recalled her high heels breaking at Harman Tower, and she had been wearing sneakers since, probably because she had no other shoes.
Nora glanced at the store, seeing no discount signs, "It doesn't look like there's a sale."
No sale, no buy.
"I'll check." Steven went in and returned within a minute, telling Nora, "It's also 90% off."
Nora's jaw dropped, "What kind of day is this? Everything's 90% off?"
She carried her bags into the store to browse.
Fifteen minutes later, James called, "Mr. York, Willie and Hazel finished shopping and went for dinner."
"Follow them and book a table for us too," Steven instructed James.
After hanging up, he asked Nora, "Are you done? Willie and that woman went for dinner; let's join them."
