Chapter 38 Steven Is Furious
"Alright then."
Nora wiped away her tears.
She whispered to herself, "Divorce isn't the end of the world. I didn't have much to start with anyway, it's just a new beginning!"
Plus, Steven was giving her the Riverside Apartment. What did she really have to lose?
Steven was the one missing out!
The next day.
Nora walked into the office and noticed a crowd gathered around Hazel.
"Hazel, did you hit the jackpot? You got yourself an LV bag?" Bianca asked with a grin.
Hazel beamed. "My boyfriend got it for me."
"How much did it set him back?"
"Not much." Hazel was clearly pleased with herself.
She already considered Willie her boyfriend. If she could win him over, she'd be the boss lady of Apex Technologies Corporation. Then, she could have any bag she wanted!
The entire company would be hers!
Nora entered the office, her gaze lingering on Hazel. Hazel looked completely unbothered and even gave Nora a challenging look.
Mistresses these days were really shameless!
"Nora, come to my office for a sec." Willie appeared and called for Nora.
Nora shot Willie a knowing look.
Willie felt a bit uneasy.
He had checked the warehouse surveillance last night.
He had thought that if he found evidence, he would have a reason to fire Nora!
But it turned out that Nora had never entered the warehouse. Each time, the warehouse staff brought the goods out to her. There was no theft of company products.
That batch of 1210 was indeed something she had purchased herself.
Willie had no reason to fire her, so he bought Olivia a bracelet overnight to keep her happy.
Nora followed Willie into the office.
Willie opened a jewelry box and placed it in front of her.
Inside was a pair of earrings. Willie smiled and said, "Nora, these are a gift from me. They're the same as Bianca's. You two are like sisters to me, treated equally."
Willie was playing the emotional card.
He was smart. He didn't want to divorce Olivia. Having a wife who was good to his parents at home and a mistress outside was his idea of the perfect life.
Nora glanced at the earrings. If she didn't accept them, Willie might become suspicious.
So she took them. "Thanks, Willie."
"Alright, get back to work." Willie smiled at her, his attitude unusually pleasant.
"Okay." Nora took the earrings and walked out.
Bianca saw the jewelry box in her hand and immediately felt envious. "What did Willie give you?"
Nora glanced at Hazel beside her.
Hazel's fingers clutched her new LV bag, her lip slightly bitten, worried that Willie might fancy Nora.
Nora's beauty was well-recognized in the company. Everyone, regardless of gender, thought she was stunning. Willie had once said Nora was very pretty!
Nora smiled. "Why should I tell you?"
Bianca's face turned cold. She was about to retort when someone called out to Nora from outside.
"Nora, someone's here to see you," the receptionist announced.
Nora walked towards the entrance.
Bianca and Hazel secretly followed, curious to see who was looking for Nora.
Outside stood James.
He was holding a thermos.
Nora looked puzzled. "Hi, what's this?"
"It's chicken soup." James handed the thermos to Nora. "Steven asked me to bring it to you."
Nora was surprised. "He asked you to?"
Wasn't he planning to divorce her? Why would he send her chicken soup?
"Yeah," James confirmed.
Nora was confused but took the thermos and went back to the office to call Steven.
The call didn't go through. He was probably busy.
Bianca followed her and asked with a smile, "Is that guy your boyfriend?"
He didn't look wealthy. Otherwise, why would he be delivering food? Only poor people played the thoughtful boyfriend card.
"What's it to you?" Nora shot back, her tone icy.
"I'm just concerned about you. After all, you're my relative," Bianca replied with a fake smile.
"You know whether you're concerned or just want to see me fail," Nora said, not wanting to engage further. She returned to her desk and tried calling Steven again.
This time, he answered but didn't speak.
Nora bit her lip. "Did you send me chicken soup?"
"Yes."
"But I'm not sick anymore." Her symptoms had improved.
"I see." His tone was cold.
Nora didn't know what else to say. They both held their phones in silence.
"Anything else?" Steven asked, giving her a chance.
Sending the soup today was his way of testing if she wanted to continue their relationship. He needed her to make the first move so he could demand she not see other men.
"No." He was set on divorce. What else was there to say?
Steven's expression turned colder. Just as he was about to hang up, Nora spoke again. "By the way."
Steven raised an eyebrow. She couldn't let go after all.
"What is it?" he asked in a deep voice.
"I just transferred fifty thousand dollars to you. I'll send the remaining two thousand dollars tomorrow."
"What fifty thousand dollars?"
"It's the living expenses and household costs you gave me before. Plus, the two thousand dollars I borrowed to buy bed linens. I can only transfer fifty thousand dollars a day, so I'll send the rest tomorrow." She hadn't finished before Steven hung up.
They had been married for three and a half months. He had given her fifty thousand dollars for living and household expenses, and she had returned it all.
Even the two thousand dollars she borrowed a few days ago.
She had calculated everything down to the last cent!
Not taking a penny from him!
Steven was so frustrated that his chest hurt.
Nora's eyes dimmed after the call ended. Because Steven wanted a divorce, she returned the money to him.
She had recently made fifty thousand dollars from the 1210 sale and, combined with her savings, had enough to support herself now.
After lunch, Olivia suddenly came to the office.
"Olivia!" Everyone greeted her with smiles.
Olivia looked elegant and noble, her demeanor gentle.
"Hello, everyone." Olivia walked in, kindly responding to everyone and bringing them coffee—over thirty cups for the employees to help themselves.
Nora approached Olivia. "Olivia, aren't you having a tough pregnancy? Why did you come over?"
"Just wanted to take a look."
Olivia's gaze fell on Hazel.
Nora felt like Olivia knew something and also looked at Hazel.
Hazel's desk prominently displayed the LV bag, clearly showing it off to everyone.
Olivia walked over and asked with a smile, "An LV bag, Hazel? Your boyfriend got it for you?"
"Yes." Hazel's smile was strained.
Olivia handed her a cup of coffee. As Hazel reached out to take it, Olivia suddenly let go, and the coffee spilled on the LV bag.
The lid came off as it fell, and the entire cup of coffee drenched the LV bag.
Hazel's face turned pale.
Olivia didn't seem apologetic. "Oops, I didn't hold it steady. You should clean it up."
With that, she headed to Willie's office.
Hazel's face twisted in anger!
