Chapter 315 Alton Took Care of Olivia for a Night
Chapter 315 Alton Took Care of Olivia for a Night
Olivia shook her head, "It doesn't hurt anymore."
"Are you always too busy with work and skipping meals?" Alton sat by the hospital bed and asked her.
Olivia said, "Sometimes when I get busy, I just lose track of time."
"You live alone, so you need to know how to take care of yourself. What if you suddenly get acute gastritis and no one's around to help you?" Last night Olivia had passed out from the pain. If she had been alone at home in that condition, she might not have had the strength to go downstairs and get a cab, and could have died at home without anyone knowing.
"I'll be more careful from now on." That was all she said.
She was different from many other women—no fear, no complaining about her fate.
It seemed that after one divorce, she no longer believed in relationships.
Such a closed-off, cold-hearted woman—even if someone wanted to get close to her, they couldn't.
Alton felt a bit helpless, "Are you hungry? Want some oatmeal?"
"I'll eat out." Olivia sat up. Her body was fine now, as if she'd never been sick.
Still, she said to Alton, "Thank you."
Thank you for taking her to the hospital last night.
Olivia walked to the bedside table, picked up her medical records and looked them over. One night in the hospital plus some tests cost over three thousand dollars. She transferred the money to Alton, then gathered her things.
Alton looked at the transfer on his phone, his brow twitching, "I took care of you all night, and this is how you say thank you?"
Olivia thought for a moment, "How about I treat you to a meal then?"
Alton's expression improved a bit, "Where?"
"What do you want to eat?"
"Are you feeling okay?" Alton was a bit worried about her.
Olivia stretched out her arms to show him, "I'm fine. I even find it amazing—in so much pain, and a few bottles of IV fluid fixed everything."
She didn't even need to get a prescription before being discharged.
Alton took her to a restaurant on the island that dated back to the 1930s.
The restaurant was by the sea, decorated in a 90s style. The buildings inside were diamond-shaped, with small courtyards, gardens, and even swings.
Walking in, dense green leaves and pink roses peeked out over the courtyard walls.
Olivia felt like she'd walked into a movie. She looked around, "This building is so beautiful."
The historic building was stunning enough to make people stop and stare.
"It really is beautiful." Harbor Island became a tourist destination because of these historic, vintage buildings.
The two sat in the courtyard to eat, with a view of the blue ocean in the distance.
Olivia found the place quite romantic.
Alton's assistant brought over a scarf and hat.
Harbor Island only had summer weather, so even during New Year's, people wore short sleeves.
"For Ms. Adams." Alton nodded toward his assistant, having him give the items to Olivia.
Olivia looked puzzled.
Alton spread his napkin on his lap, "You just got sick last night, better wear a hat and scarf."
He was quite thoughtful.
"Thank you." Olivia was only wearing a sundress. She accepted the items—the bucket hat was black, matching her black sundress perfectly.
Olivia wrapped the scarf around herself and had lunch with Alton at this incredibly romantic restaurant.
In the afternoon, Olivia browsed the market, wanting to get some souvenirs for family and friends.
She bought some handmade soaps, a pearl necklace, and finally was picking out men's wallets.
Alton stood beside her waiting. Seeing her pick out a men's wallet, his eyes flickered and he smiled.
"Please wrap this for me." After choosing a wallet, Olivia had the clerk wrap it in gift paper.
Once wrapped, she paid and walked out of the store.
Alton instinctively thought it was for him and reached out to take it, with "thank you" already on his lips, "Than—"
"Thank what?" She put the wallet in her own bag.
Alton's face instantly cooled. He looked at her, "This isn't for me?"
"This is for Tanner." After answering, Olivia walked over to some children's hair accessories to pick out gifts for kids.
Only then did Alton realize that everything Olivia picked was gifts for her family.
He was a bit annoyed and followed her, "What about me?"
"What about you?"
"A souvenir!" He was getting upset.
Olivia looked at him, "What souvenir do you want?"
Besides, these things only cost a few dozen or a couple hundred dollars. He bought women's watches for over a million dollars—would he even care about these?
"I took care of you all night, took you to lunch today, and thoughtfully prepared a hat and scarf for you. Don't I deserve a souvenir?"
Olivia glanced at the scarf she was wearing. It looked pretty expensive. She pressed her lips together, "Okay, you're right. I can get you a souvenir, but I don't have much money. I can only buy these cheap things. You pick something, and I'll pay for it."
Alton's expression darkened, "When giving a gift, you make the person pick it themselves?"
Is that sincere?
Olivia frowned, "But I don't know what you like."
Alton's face looked even worse.
She wouldn't put any thought into him at all—so heartless and cold.
Seeing his sour face, Olivia still thought about it. Remembering how he seemed about to take the wallet she bought earlier, Olivia figured he must want a wallet.
She pulled him over to a display of men's wallets and said generously, "Pick one."
"You pick." Alton's expression didn't soften at all, as if she was being forced to give him something.
Olivia sighed, "Don't get mad if you don't like what I pick, okay?"
She had the clerk take out the more expensive wallets.
She picked one for over a thousand dollars at most. Olivia opened the wallet and checked it thoroughly. Finding it acceptable, she held it up to him, "How about this one?"
He looked down at it. Seeing that she had actually examined it carefully, he was finally satisfied, "It's fine."
"This one then." Olivia decided, "Here."
"What about gift wrap?" Alton looked at her.
Olivia frowned. This damn need for ceremony?
She took it to the clerk and spent ten dollars to have it wrapped in gift paper. The shops here would wrap gifts for customers, but it cost money.
Originally Olivia wanted to save the ten dollars.
But seeing Alton's expression, if she tried to save ten dollars by not getting it gift-wrapped, he'd probably throw a fit right there.
Once wrapped, Olivia handed it to Alton, "Satisfied now?"
Alton was finally satisfied. He took the gift with a smile, "Thank you."
After that, Olivia wandered around the island. Time passed leisurely as she walked, stopped, took photos, and enjoyed the scenery.
Alton stayed by her side the whole time.
Olivia didn't send him away. He'd come all the way from South City and probably had nowhere else to go, so she might as well consider him a travel companion.
Standing by the sea, Olivia was in great spirits.
Alton, with one hand in his pocket, turned to ask her, "Want to go out on the water?"
"How?"
"Yacht." Alton answered.
Olivia thought Alton was joking, but half an hour later, a yacht actually appeared.
Olivia's eyes widened, "Where'd the yacht come from?"
"I had my assistant borrow it." The assistant not only arranged for the yacht but also brought Alton's clothes.
He had a yacht in South City, but this was Harbor Island—not his territory.
Olivia had never seen a yacht before and went aboard to look around.
The yacht wasn't very big, but the cabin had everything—a kitchen, dining table, wine cabinet, bathroom, and a bedroom.
Olivia stood quietly at the yacht's railing for a while, then the yacht started moving, slowly heading toward the blue ocean.
Olivia lost her balance for a moment. Grabbing the railing, she turned to ask Alton.
"Why'd you start the boat?"
Alton sat steadily at the yacht's controls. Hearing this, he smiled playfully, "It's rare to come on a trip, of course we should experience something different. Otherwise, like you, just keep walking along the beach?"
Olivia had no response. She walked over, "You didn't even tell me. I almost fell."
"Hold on tight." A rare mischievousness flashed in Alton's eyes as he suddenly sped up.
Olivia suddenly lost her footing and fell toward Alton, her face pale with fright, "Alton!"
"I'm here." Alton wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her onto his lap in one motion, then slowed the yacht down, a smile playing on his lips.
Olivia wore only a thin black dress. Pressed against his leg, her face burned, "You jerk!"
He did it on purpose.
Olivia raised her hand to hit him.
He let go of the steering wheel with both hands and easily caught her hands, pinning them behind her back. He looked at her with deep eyes, "I'm driving the yacht. If you keep this up and the boat flips, whose fault is that?"
"How could it flip that easily?" Olivia didn't believe it. He'd let go and the yacht was still fine—how could it flip?
"It's fine now, but if you keep making trouble, that's another story."
Hearing this, Olivia stopped trying to hit him, but her hands were still caught by him. Feeling uncomfortable, she lowered her eyes and said, "Let me go."
"What if I don't?" Alton's breath fell on the top of her head.
Olivia trembled slightly and glared at him angrily, "You pervert!"
No wonder he wanted to bring her on the yacht—he deliberately lured her here. Now they were at sea, with only this one yacht for miles around.
"I am a pervert, that's right." Alton not only admitted it but also placed his hand on her waist.
Olivia's nose instantly broke out in a fine sweat, "Don't try anything."
They were pressed very close together, separated only by a few layers of fabric—quite dangerous.
"It's been so long, and you still haven't thought it over?" Alton looked at her, his gaze burning, "I'm running out of patience."
"I already rejected you, okay?" Olivia lowered her eyes. Her words were a rejection, but her voice was soft.
Alton's Adam's apple bobbed at the sound. He moved even closer, "I didn't hear it."
"Then I'm rejecting you now—" Before she could finish, he kissed her.
His kiss was fierce and passionate. Olivia couldn't handle it and kept backing away from the kiss.
"Don't run." He panted hoarsely and pulled her back, kissing her firmly.
"You..." Olivia's face was flushed and her heart racing. Why wouldn't this man listen?
After kissing for who knows how long, Alton released her and looked up at her. Her face was red, her eyes hazy...
Alton stared without blinking, "You're clearly not rejecting me."
Olivia's heart stirred. She quickly got off him and left in a fluster.
But the yacht was only so big—there was nowhere to hide. She could only go down to the cabin and stand there trying to calm her racing heart.
