Chapter 199 Steven Comes to See Her
After Nora opened the door, she ignored Andrew and went back to her own business.
Andrew didn't leave, though. Instead, he wandered around her company. Nora found him annoying, but there was no way to kick him out. She rolled up her sleeves and started unpacking packages one by one. Some were inventory, some were daily supplies, and some were shelves for the company—all waiting for her to deal with.
Andrew was a bit surprised, "Are you this busy every day? You assemble all these shelves yourself?"
"Why not?" Nora's tone was a bit cold. The company had just opened, so there was naturally a lot to do.
Andrew gave her a thumbs up, "You're pretty impressive."
After unpacking the packages, Nora started dividing up areas in the office. This was required by the street office - the company had to be organized, not messy. People would come to check fire safety every so often, and if it didn't pass, they'd put up a seal.
She divided half the company into a warehouse area and split the other half into a computer area, a packing area, and a shipping area. The entrance would be the delivery area and returns area.
She divided up all the areas by herself, and still had to move a booth to the front desk. The table was really heavy - she used all her strength but couldn't push it.
It was just too heavy!
Andrew frowned, finally feeling a bit sorry for her. He walked over to help her push it, "You know, you're a girl - why don't you ask the man standing right there to help you? Why do you have to be so stubborn?"
Nora didn't even look at him. "I don't want to owe you any favors."
"Am I really that scary?" Andrew helped her push the booth to the front desk and rolled up his sleeves, "Is there anything else that needs doing? I'll help you."
"No need." Nora refused, then went to clean up the shelves that Jimmy had knocked over yesterday. Some had fallen apart and needed to be reassembled.
She looked at the scattered parts, feeling angry inside.
She had spent so long putting them together, and now Jimmy had knocked them all down and ruined everything. All that work for nothing.
Nora called the police station. The police said they would send someone to investigate.
Andrew followed her again, "This shelf is too heavy, let me help you."
Nora was helpless, "No need, I said I don't want to owe you any favors."
"Just think of it as me wanting to help."
Nora was speechless. She could only prop up the shelves that were still usable, and pile the broken ones aside to assemble later.
She continued putting warning tape on the floor.
Andrew came over again, "Why are you kneeling on the floor?"
Nora glared at him while putting down the tape, "Mr. Hayes, what exactly did you come here for? Just say it directly."
"I really didn't come here specifically to find you." Andrew said very confidently, "I came to talk business. I just happened to see you go up to the 27th floor, so I came by to check it out."
"So you're saying this is a coincidence?"
"Yes." Andrew didn't even blush.
Nora thought about it, "Then why did you do business with me before?"
"I just happened to need some goods, searched online, and found your shop. That's not really a problem, is it?"
Nora actually didn't believe him, because on international websites, you could see the seller's address.
"Alright, you can go now." Nora felt he wasn't telling the truth and didn't want to keep dealing with him.
Andrew sighed, "You just think too badly of me."
Nora couldn't be bothered with him and continued with her own work, carefully aligning and placing the tape strips.
"What are you doing now?"
Nora didn't want to deal with him and just asked, "When exactly are you leaving?"
"Soon." Andrew wasn't in a hurry. Beautiful women always needed to be approached slowly.
He finally left.
During lunch break, Nora was drinking water when Philip came over, bringing some bread and snacks.
"How's your hand?" Nora asked with concern.
Philip felt warm inside, "It doesn't hurt much anymore, I just need to go for follow-up appointments on time."
He handed her the snacks, "I just got to the company and brought you something to eat. You always forget to eat when you're busy, so here - you can have these later when you're hungry."
Philip's tone was very gentle.
But Nora felt a bit uncomfortable and didn't dare look him in the eye, "How much were these? Let me transfer the money to you."
She picked up her phone, ready to transfer payment.
Philip smiled and waved his hand, "No need, they weren't expensive."
Nora still transferred a hundred dollars, but Philip didn't accept it, which made her feel a bit awkward.
The atmosphere became a bit stiff.
Just then, someone came to deliver food, "Delivery!"
Nora was confused and turned to the delivery person, "I didn't order any food."
The delivery person checked the order, "But this is your phone number."
The delivery person handed it over. Nora opened it to find a cup of fruit tea and tuna sushi.
She immediately understood - Mr. Hayes had ordered it.
It was exactly the same as the fruit tea and tuna sushi she had made the first time they met.
Nora couldn't help rolling her eyes.
What was he trying to do?
And why was everyone bringing her food today?
Philip hadn't left yet. Seeing the delivery, he casually asked, "Did your husband order that for you?"
"No." Nora said quietly, "We're already divorced."
A flash of light appeared in Philip's eyes, but he didn't show it. He still asked gently, "Why did you get divorced?"
"We weren't compatible."
Philip remembered her husband's cold stare. Although he'd never met him in person, just from that look, he could tell he wasn't easy to get along with.
Probably that man was too difficult to deal with?
"By the way, Nora, those people who came to cause trouble yesterday—did you report it to the police?" Philip made conversation with her.
"I did, the police said they'd come investigate."
"That's good."
They chatted for a bit, then Nora walked Philip out of the company. He had come during his lunch break and needed to get back to work.
"Bye." Nora waved to Philip.
She didn't notice that Steven and James were coming up from the elevator at the other end. When they walked to the company entrance, they happened to see Nora seeing Philip off.
Steven felt a bit uncomfortable inside.
Together every day, such a close relationship?
Nora was about to go back to the company when she saw Steven. He stood at the end of the hallway, still so handsome you couldn't look away, like a god who didn't belong in the human world.
Nora suddenly felt like crying again.
That tin box was gone forever.
She felt a bit sad inside, but also relieved. Maybe this was fate - even God didn't want them together.
She looked away and walked into the company.
Steven strode over, pushed open the company door, and slowly walked in.
He had also rushed over during his lunch break.
Seeing him come in, Nora was a bit surprised.
The company entrance had no access control—anyone could come in, which made her feel a bit helpless.
"Ms. Adams, have you eaten?" James walked in, put the lunch he'd bought on the table, then saw the cup of fruit tea and sushi already there.
James was startled for a moment, but quickly pretended not to see it and said to Nora, "Mr. York specifically ordered grilled fish that you like today."
He opened the lid of the grilled fish, and the aroma immediately wafted out.
Nora was putting down floor markers. Smelling the food, her stomach growled.
She really did love grilled fish.
Steven heard her stomach growl, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help turning up. His mood improved a bit.
But his eyes fell on the sushi on the table. Thinking Philip had bought it, he said to James, "James, you take this fruit tea and sushi and eat it."
Nora was startled, then heard James cooperate, "Okay, Mr. York, I'll go eat in the car downstairs."
James left with the food.
Nora didn't refuse—she didn't want to eat what Mr. Hayes ordered anyway.
Only Steven and Nora were left in the office.
Although Nora thought the fish smelled good, she didn't want to eat what Steven bought. She continued with her own work.
Steven waited a while. Seeing she was ignoring him, his voice became a bit low, "Come eat."
Nora pretended not to hear.
Steven looked around the office and found that the shelves were only half assembled. Everything else was pretty much organized - the company was starting to look proper.
"Come eat." He repeated, "Don't assemble the rest of the shelves. I'll have someone come help you this afternoon."
Nora was a bit surprised but still refused, "No need, you eat. Leave when you're done."
Steven's face darkened, clearly unhappy, "I'm telling you to come eat."
Nora still didn't respond.
Steven waited a bit, finally losing patience. He walked to her side.
A shadow fell over her.
Steven grabbed Nora's arm.
He pulled her up.
"Steven!" Nora cried out in surprise.
"Come eat." Steven's expression was cold as he pulled her directly to the packing table.
He brought over a bowl of mashed potatoes and put it in front of her, "Eat quickly, it's almost one o'clock, I need to get back soon."
So he had also rushed over during his lunch break.
Thinking of the lost tin box, Nora felt sad again. She picked up her utensils and ate slowly.
Steven glanced at her and quickly noticed the change.
All her jewelry was gone.
"Where's your jewelry?" Steven asked casually.
Nora looked down at her own wrist—it was bare.
Right, she had put away all the jewelry Elizabeth gave her.
She turned and got a jewelry box from the back, "I put it all away. Can you return it to Grandma for me?"
She pushed the jewelry box over.
This set of jewelry was very valuable. Nora didn't dare handle it carelessly, and since Elizabeth had given it to her, it should be returned.
Steven looked at the jewelry box, his eyebrow twitching. His tone was unhappy, "This is the wedding jewelry Grandma gave you. It's yours."
"We weren't married that long..."
"Over five months." Steven looked at her.
Nora glanced at him, "We barely saw each other the first three months."
Back then, he basically never came home. They had only lived together for a bit over a month. Although they had developed feelings during that time, Steven still chose to separate.
Nora said softly, "The actual time living together was very short. I can't keep such expensive things from your family. You should take it back and return it to Grandma."
"And..." Nora looked at Steven.
"And what?" Steven stared at her.
Nora said calmly, "That apartment at Riverside Apartment—I don't want it either. Cancel the transfer documents."
She hadn't refused immediately at first because she was still waiting for Steven to come back.
But last night, seeing Steven and Vivian hugging, she had made up her mind.
Since they were separating, might as well be clean about it.
What Steven said last night was still echoing in her ears.
Besides, Steven only had that one apartment. If he gave it to her, he could have nowhere to live. She didn't want to put Steven in a difficult position.
Hearing her words, Steven's face darkened even more, staring at her intently.
He had come in person, bought the food she liked, and she was still bringing up the jewelry and the apartment, like she wanted to cut off all ties between them.
