Chapter 139 Steven Comes to Rescue Nora
Andrew's leg hurt badly, and he lay on the ground without saying a word.
"Let me drag you over there to rest. You can lean against the wall," Nora pulled him to the side.
"Ah!" Andrew glared at her in pain. "Nora, that's enough! Can't you be a little gentler?"
"Who told you to be so heavy?" She had struggled to drag him over.
Just as Andrew was about to scold her, she ripped his pants apart.
This woman, Nora!
She was so strong!
Andrew looked surprised. "What are you doing?"
"I'm checking your wound." Nora glanced at his injury. The glass was still stuck in there, and it looked pretty serious.
"Does it hurt?" She looked up at him.
Seeing the concern in her eyes, Andrew felt a bit uncomfortable. "Why don't you try getting stabbed by glass?"
"It looks really painful." Nora squatted down. "I can't deal with this glass - I'm not a surgeon. But if you're in pain, I can use acupuncture needles to help stop the bleeding. What do you think?"
Andrew nodded weakly. "Go ahead."
Better than bleeding and hurting at the same time.
Nora pulled out her acupuncture kit from her bag and unrolled it. "It'll hurt a bit. Bear with it."
When the needle went in, Andrew broke out in a cold sweat. "Be gentle!"
"Being gentle won't work." Nora ignored him and calmly inserted a few more needles.
Andrew looked at her weakly through half-closed eyes.
She was focused on treating him.
Her profile actually looked quite nice.
At a critical moment, she was actually useful.
Andrew closed his eyes and endured it.
Finally, the needles were in place. Nora smiled and said, "Done. The bleeding has stopped."
Andrew opened his eyes. There were several needles in his thigh, and the bleeding had indeed stopped. He let out a breath, feeling exhausted.
The blood loss made him feel very cold.
There was no way Nora would give him her jacket - the forest could freeze you to death after nightfall.
She pulled out a thermos. "I have water. Do you want some?"
"Did you already drink from it?" Andrew asked.
"Yeah." She had drunk from it. If he weren't so weak, she wouldn't even want to give it to him.
At a time like this, and he still looked so disgusted!
Andrew didn't want it, but he was really thirsty, so he had to accept. "Pour it into a cup for me."
Nora thought he was being really fussy. She poured the water into the lid. "There's only the lid. Take it or leave it. If you're really that disgusted, don't drink it."
Andrew fell silent.
In all his years, no one had ever looked at him with such disdain.
Nora had a take-it-or-leave-it attitude as she set the cup of water on the ground, letting him decide for himself.
Andrew looked at the water and finally reached out and picked it up.
Nora pulled out a small piece of cake for him. "If you're hungry, eat this."
She sat down on the other side and nibbled on a small cake herself.
Good thing she had bought some food before leaving this morning. She was worried things at the scenic area would be expensive, so she bought stuff outside.
Seeing her sit so far away, Andrew said unhappily, "Why are you sitting so far away? Are you that afraid of me?"
"I'm afraid you'll look down on me again later, so I might as well sit far away and stay out of trouble."
Andrew fell silent.
Meanwhile, Clarence had finally tracked down Nora's whereabouts.
The scenic area had provided video footage showing Nora and Andrew taking the cable car, then bungee jumping together. After that, the two left the scenic area and walked into the forest, then disappeared.
Steven watched the videos, his face dark.
He thought something had happened to her, but it turned out she went off to have fun with Andrew, got lost in the forest, and couldn't get out.
Clarence asked carefully on the phone, "Mr. York, we've confirmed the location and notified the search and rescue team. Are you still going?"
"Yes." Steven's voice was heavy. "I'll go myself and see what else she has to say!"
In the trap.
Andrew took a bite of cake, his eyes on Nora's face. "Am I really that terrible? Is that why you're avoiding me?"
"You're not terrible?" Since he asked, Nora spoke honestly. "You pushed me off the bungee platform. You know how scared I was in that moment - someone could have died."
Andrew closed his eyes, very weak, but his mouth still had to be stubborn. "I told you it was a joke."
"Then why did you get angry when I joked with you?" Nora glanced at him.
Andrew snorted coldly. "You kicked me - kicked me right in the waist. Do you know how important the waist is to a man?"
"I was just copying you anyway."
The two started bickering, neither backing down!
Suddenly, beams of light swept overhead, many lights shining down from above.
"Is anyone there?" the search and rescue team called from above.
"Yes!" Nora immediately responded.
"Are you okay?"
"My companion's leg was pierced by a glass bottle. He might need rescue." Nora answered their questions, joy on her face. "Mr. Hayes, someone's here to rescue us!"
She thought they'd have to wait until tomorrow.
She didn't expect to be rescued tonight!
The search and rescue team lowered two ropes and two people came down. Since Nora wasn't injured, she was brought up first by the rescue team.
As soon as Nora reached the ground, she saw Steven standing not far away.
He wore a well-tailored suit, his face half in shadow from the flashlights, like a cold and aloof king looking down from on high.
When Nora saw him, somehow her heart started beating hard.
Had he noticed she hadn't come home and called the search and rescue team to save her?
Nora was touched.
But Steven turned and walked away.
He had come to confirm - to confirm whether they were together - but he didn't want to run into Andrew to avoid more trouble.
Seeing him turn and leave, Nora's heart tightened, and she chased after him. "Steven!"
Steven ignored her and strode forward.
Nora ran urgently and didn't watch her step - she tripped!
"Ah!" Nora fell, her palms scraping against the gravel and getting cut.
Steven didn't come to help her up.
It was Clarence who helped her up. "Ms. Adams, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Nora glanced at her palms - there were several bloody scratches.
She didn't care and continued chasing Steven. She didn't worry about Andrew behind her either - the search and rescue team would definitely take him to the hospital.
Steven stood in front of the cable car and turned around, his eyes piercing and unbearable.
"Steven." Nora caught up.
Steven got into the cable car.
There were only two ways to leave Cloud Mountain - take the cable car down or climb down.
The cable car would reach the foot of the mountain in a moment, but climbing down would take several hours.
She chased after him and got on the cable car. Looking at his expression, she knew he must have misunderstood. Nora wanted to explain.
The two got on the cable car. As Clarence was about to follow, Steven said coldly, "You take the next one."
"Yes!" Clarence stopped.
The cable car started moving.
The two stood facing each other.
"Did you have fun?" Steven said sarcastically, staring at her face.
She trembled, looked up, her watery eyes on him. "Steven, you've misunderstood me again?"
"Again and again, Nora, do you really take me for a fool?"
He saw it with his own eyes, and she still wanted to lie to him?
Steven laughed mockingly.
Nora sighed softly, took a step forward, still feeling she should talk to him.
"I can explain."
"You think I'll believe you?" His face was stern, without warmth.
Nora was stunned.
So this was what suspicion meant - no explanation would work.
Once people made up their minds, they would only believe their own judgment.
At the end of the day, their relationship was too shallow, their trust insufficient.
Nora felt powerless inside. She sat down, looked at the clouds and mist outside the cable car, and didn't want to talk anymore.
She was tired, sleepy, exhausted, and now being suspected on top of it all - she really didn't want to talk.
Her phone rang in her bag.
Nora glanced at it - the signal was back, but her phone was almost dead.
"Hello." It was Andrew calling. She answered.
"Where are you?" After being rescued, Andrew didn't see Nora anywhere, so he called to ask.
"I'm on the cable car. I'm heading back." Nora answered.
Andrew frowned. "You just left without waiting for me?"
"The search and rescue team is there. You'll be fine. They'll take you to the hospital."
"Your needles are still in my leg." Andrew's tone wasn't good either.
Nora said flatly, "When you get to the hospital, have the doctor remove them. You can give them back to me next time we meet."
Standing nearby, Steven heard her brazenly making plans to meet Andrew again, and his face grew darker and darker.
"Already making plans for next time?" Steven couldn't help but say sarcastically. "And you say you're innocent - how ridiculous!"
Nora glanced at him.
He returned an extremely cold look.
Nora admitted she was afraid of him and didn't dare meet his eyes. She looked away and said to Andrew, "Are you taking the cable car down?"
Andrew said, "Yeah, otherwise how do I get down the mountain?"
"Then I'll wait for you at the cable car station." Nora planned to get her acupuncture needles back right away, so Steven wouldn't accuse her of making dates with men again!
Hearing this, Steven's face grew even darker.
She was going to wait for Andrew at the cable car station?
Andrew was a bit surprised. "You're going to wait for me?"
"Yes." Nora nodded. It would only take half an hour anyway, and then she could get them back and wouldn't have to meet again.
"Okay then." Andrew smiled. She had saved him several times - he didn't dislike her as much now.
The call ended, and the cable car fell silent again.
Finally, the cable car reached the middle station.
Here you could choose to get off or continue down.
Nora didn't want to stay with Steven. His presence was too oppressive, and Nora felt very uncomfortable.
"You go back first. I'll wait for someone at the rest station. I'll go back on my own later."
After saying this, Nora tried to get off the cable car.
Steven angrily grabbed her. "Playing with him all day wasn't enough? You still have to wait for him here?"
"Think whatever you want." She shook off his hand, her face cold.
A few accusations were enough - constant accusations were more than anyone could stand.
Did he think she wouldn't talk back?
Nora insisted on getting off the cable car.
Steven disagreed and pulled her slender body back. As they struggled, the cable car shook violently.
"The cable car is moving!"
Nora's face went pale with fear!
The cable car's stop time was up, and it slowly started moving down the mountain.
The two of them were now suspended in mid-air - they didn't dare move around anymore. If they fell from here, they'd be smashed to pieces!
So they stayed in their embrace.
Nora didn't want to hug him. She wanted to get out of his arms, but Steven had locked both her hands - she couldn't move at all.
"Steven, let me go." Nora kept her eyes down, her face indifferent.
Steven's tone was unkind. "You're the kind of woman who needs to be taught a lesson."
