Chapter 111 Willie Begged for Mercy
"Nora, you're here too." Willie's face was still bruised, with a large purple patch around his eye.
Nora glanced at it and felt satisfied.
Serves him right!
Willie put down the fruit. "I brought some fruit. Help yourselves to whatever you want."
After saying that, he naturally grabbed a folding chair and sat down in front of Olivia as if nothing had happened.
"Olivia, how are you feeling?" he asked with concern.
Olivia looked at him and gave a mocking smile.
Willie said, "I wanted to hire a caregiver for you, but then your brother suddenly came to the house and beat me up like this. I was bedridden at home for three days, and only today did I have the strength to get up. Olivia, as soon as I got up, I came straight to see you..."
Olivia didn't want to hear his nonsense. After finishing her meal, she said to Nora, "Nora, help me lie down."
"Okay." Nora helped Olivia lie down.
The two of them acted as if Willie didn't exist.
At this point, the two families were completely at odds, and ignoring Willie was mainly to avoid more trouble.
But Willie didn't plan to divorce.
At first, after being beaten by Tanner, he was pretty angry and wanted a divorce, since things had already gotten to this point anyway.
But after going back and thinking it over, he realized that divorcing now would be very disadvantageous. He was currently in a rising phase of his career, and if he divorced Olivia, he would need to give her half of his assets, which would put him in a tight financial situation. So he couldn't divorce—if he did, he might face a debt crisis.
So after thinking it through, he bought fruit and came to the hospital to sweet-talk Olivia.
Olivia was pretty easy to win over. As long as he took the initiative and humbled himself a bit, Olivia would forgive him. Willie understood her personality very well.
After sitting for a while, Willie asked gently, "Olivia, do you want some fruit? Let me wash an apple for you?"
Willie picked out an apple from the fruit basket.
Nora couldn't stand it anymore. "Don't you know she just had surgery not long ago and can't eat fruit right now?"
Nora didn't even address Willie by name anymore.
So after six years with Willie, Olivia finally saw his true colors.
She had just had a miscarriage, and Willie was asking her to eat an apple?
Olivia found it laughable. Sure enough, whether you married a person or a monster, time would reveal their true nature.
"Take all the fruit you bought back home. I won't eat anything from you." Olivia turned her head away.
Willie said nothing, as if feeling tired, and sat silently on the folding chair, looking at Olivia.
No one in the room spoke. The atmosphere was stiff.
Willie might as well not have come.
When he wasn't here, she and Nora got along quite well. As soon as he arrived, the whole atmosphere turned cold.
After sitting for a while, Willie really couldn't stand the oppressive atmosphere anymore. Making small talk, he said to Nora, "I went back to the office today, and Amelia said you're not coming to the company anymore. Is that true?"
Nora responded coldly. After all that happened, why would she go back?
Willie said, "Nora, what my mom and sister-in-law did was unintentional. Don't take it to heart—they misunderstood. I never said you couldn't come to the company. If you want to come back, just come back. I welcome you anytime."
Although Willie didn't want Nora to come back, he still had to say some nice things.
Nora laughed coldly. "If you really thought that way, you wouldn't have let them come to the company to confront me before."
"I really didn't know about that before. If I had known, I would have stopped it early on."
Nora didn't bother to respond.
She really didn't believe him. Otherwise, Willie should have confronted his own family that day, instead of coming to Riverside Apartment to argue with Olivia, right?
This resulted in Olivia's accidental miscarriage.
He was probably feeling guilty now and trying to clear his name.
"Nora, I'm sorry." Willie sincerely apologized to Nora.
Nora smiled coldly and said deliberately, "Fine, I'll come back to work at the company starting tomorrow. Just tell your family not to give me a hard time anymore."
She didn't close the door completely—what if she needed to go back to Apex Technologies Corporation?
Willie's face stiffened, his smile somewhat forced. "Okay, I'll talk to them."
Nora was too sharp. Willie really didn't want her to come back, afraid she'd catch him doing something wrong.
"Nora, I've hired a caregiver to take care of Olivia tonight, and someone will deliver meals from now on. You're not needed here anymore. Go home and rest." Willie turned to Nora.
Nora glanced at Olivia.
Olivia said, "Nora, you should go back."
The child she lost was Willie's, so of course Willie should be responsible for her hospital stay. She didn't want to burden her own family anymore.
Willie should pay—otherwise, wouldn't that be letting him off too easily?
"Okay." Nora agreed, picked up her bag, and said to Olivia with concern, "Olivia, call me if you need anything."
"Okay, go on back. Be careful on the road."
Nora had been taking care of Olivia at the hospital for four days. Olivia felt bad for her.
After Nora left the hospital room, Olivia asked Willie, "What about Nora's store? What do you say?"
He hadn't mentioned the store at all just now.
Olivia had wanted to ask for a while, which was why she had Nora leave first.
Willie was silent for a long time. "Olivia, in my heart, I want to give Nora that store, but my family won't agree. My mom has been dizzy and hospitalized recently, and my brother is also hospitalized with a broken bone. Three people in the family are in the hospital. I run between the company and hospitals every day. I'm really exhausted."
By saying this, he wanted Olivia's understanding.
In the past, when Olivia saw him in such pain, she would choose to be understanding.
This trick always worked.
So Willie put on a pained expression, covering his face and saying, "I don't want the family fighting over this anymore. Let me catch my breath, Olivia. I'm begging you, please don't push me anymore. The baby is gone, and I'm heartbroken too..."
In the past, if Olivia had seen him begging like this, she would have been shocked.
But now, even if he talked himself hoarse, Olivia wouldn't feel sorry for him.
After going through so much, her heart had gone numb. Hearing that Eleanor was hospitalized, she just laughed coldly.
She probably saw that Olivia had miscarried and quickly pretended to be sick and hid in the hospital.
After all, she was the one who called those relatives to the house. If she weren't sick now, she'd have to face Willie's anger.
So her timing for getting sick was just perfect.
By getting sick, not only did she not have to visit Olivia, but she could also gain Willie's sympathy.
Olivia smiled bitterly. "Your family caused me to lose my child and pushed Nora to the edge, and in the end, you say I'm pushing you? What about Nora and me? And my child—do we deserve this?"
"Didn't I say? I'll give Nora financial compensation. I just don't want the family fighting over these things anymore. You know, Olivia, I've always wanted a harmonious family."
