Chapter 106 The Uterus Almost Lost
Nora jumped to her feet, but she got up too quickly. Her legs gave way, and she fell back into Steven's arms.
Steven caught her in time and brought her over to Chris. "How did it go?"
Chris pulled down his mask.
Willie rushed over. "Doctor, how is my wife?"
Chris gave Willie a cold look. "She's okay. We saved the patient's uterus. Her will to live was very strong. The surgery was successful."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Chris said, "But she's a bit weak right now. She needs to stay in the ICU for observation for 24 hours. You should all go home. The hospital will contact you when the patient wakes up."
Everyone nodded. As long as she was okay.
The joy of surviving this ordeal left everyone exhausted.
Chris took off his surgical gown and sent Alton a message: [Remember that Olivia? She almost died tonight.]
He had only sent Alton a voice message, but Alton called him right away.
"What happened to her?" Alton was sitting in the courtyard. He had been in a good mood, admiring the night-blooming cereus, but when he saw this message, his mood instantly darkened. He frowned.
Chris raised an eyebrow. "She had a miscarriage."
Alton's grip on his wine glass tightened, his voice flat. "How did she miscarry?"
"Someone pushed her. On the operating table tonight, she kept saying her baby was killed by someone. Massive bleeding, three blood transfusions. She almost died on the operating table."
Alton frowned. "That serious?"
"I was right there. What do you think?" Although he wasn't in obstetrics, he had supervised tonight's surgery. They had almost lost her uterus.
Alton said nothing, his face falling into shadow, looking somewhat gloomy.
Nora was brought back to Riverside Apartment by Steven.
It was already past 4 a.m.
Nora unbuckled her seatbelt and was about to get out of the car when her legs gave way, and she fell to the ground.
Steven quickly grabbed her and scooped her up in his arms.
Nora's body suddenly went airborne, and her heart skipped a beat. "Steven, you don't need to carry me. I can walk by myself."
"Your legs are weak. Let me carry you." Steven glanced at her. Her face was still pale. Steven carried her into the elevator. "Were you really scared tonight?"
Nora nodded. "At that moment, I was really afraid."
Olivia was the closest person to her in the world. She was terrified something would happen to Olivia.
Steven carried her into the house and unlocked the door.
Nora suddenly remembered what had happened that night and felt a bit scared. Then she saw him carry her into the guest bedroom and place her on the bed.
He had brought her back to her own room and gently covered her with a blanket.
Nora's heart trembled.
Actually, he was pretty good. Tonight, he had specifically asked his doctor friend to come over, and he came to the hospital to find her, giving her comfort and support.
Few ordinary husbands could do this much.
Except for being a bit bossy and cold sometimes, Steven was actually quite nice.
"Steven." Nora lay in bed, calling his name.
"What is it?" Steven looked at her.
"When Olivia wakes up tomorrow, will the hospital notify me?"
"Yes, I asked Chris to keep watch at the hospital. When Olivia wakes up, he'll notify me."
Nora nodded.
Steven was about to leave.
On impulse, Nora grabbed his hand.
Steven looked over. "What?"
"Thank you for tonight." Thank you for rushing to the hospital to be with her and for calling Chris over.
Steven's gaze softened. "It's already past four. Get some sleep. You'll need your energy to go see your sister when the hospital contacts you tomorrow."
"Okay," Nora responded softly and closed her eyes.
The next day.
When Nora woke up, she saw Steven staring at her face.
Nora was stunned for a second, still sleepy. "Steven? What are you doing here? Did Olivia wake up?"
"No, the hospital hasn't called yet."
"Okay," Nora responded, not knowing what else to say.
Steven reached out and brushed the hair from her face. Nora's body stiffened, not knowing what he was going to do.
"Steven, what are you doing?"
"Your face is red here. Did someone hit you?" Steven pointed to the red mark on the edge of her cheek.
He had noticed it last night, but she was in a bad mood then, so Steven didn't ask.
"Yesterday, the Reed family came to make trouble at the company. Willie's mom tried to hit me. I grabbed her hand, but she still grazed my face a little." She briefly explained what happened yesterday.
"So you've fallen out with the Reed family now?" Steven frowned.
"Yes." Starting today, she didn't need to go to Apex Technologies Corporation anymore. Nora said, "They did all this just to force me to hand over the store."
Steven said nothing. He took the ointment from her nightstand, squeezed some onto his fingertip, and applied it to her face. "This is the third time I've applied medicine for you."
The first time was her face, the second time was her knee, and the third time was her face again.
Steven looked at her. "Why do you keep getting hit?"
"It's because they keep causing trouble!" Nora felt resentful. "They just see that my store is profitable and want to take it back. When I refused, they kept causing trouble endlessly on purpose. But I won't give the store back to them. I worked so hard to build it up. Why should I let them benefit from it?"
Steven looked at her. "With me here, no one can take your store away."
He suddenly made a promise.
Nora was stunned.
She looked up.
In the sunlight, his features were so handsome they made her heart race.
His words touched her heart.
Although there was an element of bragging, Nora thought Steven was really cool. When he was nice to people, he was very attractive.
"Really?" She looked at him playfully, not saying anything more.
That tone, that look, were both skeptical.
Steven narrowed his attractive eyes. "You don't believe me?"
"I do!" Afraid of hurting his male pride, Nora nodded.
But Steven didn't want her to go to Apex Technologies Corporation anymore.
The Reed family had too many schemes. He didn't want Nora to keep being troubled by them.
"Have you thought about starting your own company?" Steven mentioned it. He could give Nora money to make her life easier.
Nora looked at him. "Yes, Olivia and I agreed that when she divorces Willie and gets the money she deserves, we'll start a company together."
When talking about her career, her eyes were full of hope and joy.
Steven said nothing.
Fine, it was good that she had her own pursuits. Starting a company with her sister, having someone to share the responsibility, she wouldn't be so tired.
"So you haven't been going to work recently?"
"Right! I've already moved all my stuff back. I'll just work from home for now."
Her store only got seven or eight orders a day, so it wasn't too busy. She just needed to go to the market every day or two, buy the goods, and then go to the Brilliant Star company Philip mentioned to ship them out.
