Codename: Aconite Chapter Forty-Five
Silas pulls into the entrance of my parents two-story estate, and gets out, storming towards the house. He begins to march towards the front doors, several of my father’s men appearing out of nowhere. I jump out of the car and wave them off.

“Don’t shoot!” I order them. “Silas get back in the fucking car!” I shout.

He calculatingly glances at my father's men when he can hear the sound of travelling voices. His hand snaps in the direction of the voices and races towards it like the T-1000 on kill orders. I race after him as he marches around the side of the house, making his way to the backyard. I stay on his heels as he makes his way down the length of the pool, my eyes locking with my father who goes from smiling as he sees me, to looking at Silas like a threat to be taken care of.

My father’s men surround him, drawing their guns, but it’s not my father Silas has his eyes on. My eyes lock on Castor, standing just a few feet away from my father. Revulsion churns in my gut as I take in his stubbled features and dark, bloodshot eyes. The moment he sees Silas there’s the hint of a smirk forming on his face, as if he hoped this would happen, and that thought makes me want to vomit.

Silas marches past every single armed man, grabs Castor by the collar and connects his fists with his face. He tackles him to the ground; raining blows down on him with the fury of a vengeful God. I hear the sound of safety’s being released, and so I quickly reach out, grabbing Silas’s gun out of the waistband of his pants and pointing it at my father’s men.

“Hold your fire!” I order them, each one glancing between me and the fight behind me, confused as to how to proceed.

My father rises to his feet, but I can’t bring myself to look at him. The shame I’m now feeling won’t allow me to.

“ENOUGH!” my father bellows.

“Tell them!” Silas snarls as I hear the sound of a fist meeting flesh. “Tell them what you did, you sick perverted fuck!”

I glance up just as my father signals for his men to intervene. They put their guns away, pull Silas off Castor and help Castor to his feet, but he’s quick to shake them off. He glares daggers at Silas, spitting a wad of blood at Silas’s feet. The amount of contempt and disgust in the action has me now wanting to go and throw in a few punches myself.

“Someone better tell me what the fuck is going on right this minute,” my father orders, his posture tall and imposing, his voice full of authority and his eyes burning with anger and curiosity.

“This is the son of a bitch who shot Dasha in Russia,” Castor spits out, all eyes now turning on me.

My father looks at me in shock, “Is this true?” he asks, stepping towards me, a father’s worry now taking over his features.

“Yes, but he’s not my enemy, Patera,” I say earnestly.

“I’m not the one you need to worry about, Mr Hatzis. I’d be more concerned with the fact a man you trusted to protect your daughter since she was born has been fucking her for the past two years, and just ransacked her apartment,” Silas spits, his words more poisonous than any I’ve ever worked with.

I stare at Silas, my eyes blowing wide in shock and betrayal as I feel like someone just dumped a bucket of ice water over my head. I can’t move, I can’t even speak. I feel paralysed. I can’t believe Silas just did that. I know he’s furious at Castor, and rightfully so, but how fucking dare he just air my dirty laundry to my fucking father?! He had no fucking right!

Castor turns white as marble, glancing towards my father fearfully as Silas manages to shake off my father’s guards. Mostly because they’re too shocked to hold onto him.

My father slowly looks from me to Castor, his face so impassive I can’t read it at all. “What did he just say?” he calmly asks.

“He’s a killer, Mihalis. He’s making up bullshit stories to suit his agenda. Don’t believe a word he says,” Castor says flippantly.
“If someone doesn’t explain to me what is going on in the next ten seconds, so help me God,” he warns, looking to me for an answer.

“I…” I can’t make the words come out. There are so many emotions going through me that words fail me. I’m furious that Silas would put me in this position just because he’s pissed off.

“Dasha. Is what this man saying true? And don’t you dare lie to me,” he says with the same calm authority he’s used on me whenever I stepped out of line as a child. I feel myself shrink under his gaze. No longer do I feel like the strong, notorious assassin. Now I just feel like my father’s daughter. A daughter who is about to bring him shame, and it is killing me. I’d rather walk through hot coals than feel this.

I take in a deep breath, forcing myself to look into his eyes and brace myself for his disappointment. “Yes, Patera. What Silas says is true.” I swallow down the saliva building in my mouth as I watch my father’s eyes close in a pained expression. I feel like I’ve been stabbed through the heart.

When my father’s eyes open, their normal deep blue seems to be blackened like a furious sea in the middle of the night. He stalks towards Castor, his men quickly stepping aside. Castor stands his ground, but he can’t hide the fear in his eyes.

“You’ve been sleeping with my daughter?” he slowly asks.

“It’s not what you think, Mihalis. I love Dasha with all my heart,” he says defensively.

“Do you demolish the home of every woman you love? You put a fucking knife through her picture you psychotic fuck!” Silas snarls, stepping towards Castor and immediately being held back by my father’s men.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about! You probably did it yourself! Drive a wedge between us so I’m not there to protect her. You tried to kill her once, you’ll do it again!” Castor shouts, his eyes looking crazed as Ajax is forced to step in and hold him back.

“At least I didn’t fucking groom her!”

“She seduced me!”

Those three words were all it took for my father to snap. His fist comes flying out like a cobra, connecting with Castor right in the centre of his face making his head snap back. If it weren’t for Ajax holding him, he’d be on the ground.
