CHAPTER SEVEN

When Patricia opened her eyes, she found herself on the hospital bed. Sammy was by the bedside talking to a female doctor like they’ve known each other for years. She looks much like her age. She was wearing the traditional white lab coat and a spectacle on her eyes. She smiles as she talks. Patricia swung out of the bed she could not understand what happened. How did she end up in a hospital? She did not notice the intravenous fluid which was passing through her hand. She groaned in pain because she swung out of bed without thinking. The doctor and Sammy ran towards her.

“Are you okay?” They chorused.

“Why am I here?” She asked ignoring their question.

She could not say if she was okay or not. Her body ached all over and she felt dizzy as a result of the way she swung out of bed. But the pain between her thighs are no more.

“You suddenly fainted while we were talking in my room. Am sorry I yelled so much at you.” Sammy said.

She became more confused. A while ago Sammy was so mad at her that his anger could set a house ablaze. She could not understand why he is so much calm right now and also nice towards her. How much stress did he go through after she fainted? Or did he later remember how it all happened last night? She could not bring herself to say a word. It’s like her vocal cord has been blocked.

“How are you feeling now? Do you feel relieved? Hope there is no more pain? You fainted because you lost too much blood. But we’ve taken care of everything. The blood must have stopped now.” The doctor said smilingly. She was so pretty. The smile added more beauty to her small round face.

Pat was ashamed. The doctor, one way or the other, knew the actual cause of the bleeding. How did she know? Well, she is a doctor. It’s her job any way. She managed to return the smile:

“Thank you, Doctor. The pain has subdued but I felt aches all over.” She said with a taut stressed voice.

“The aches are because you’ve been lying there for a long while. It will go away soon” She responded warmly. “May I be excused? I need to check on another patient.” She said and made her exit.

Patricia looked around the room. She wondered for how long she had being sleeping. Her eyes suddenly caught the wall clock hung on the white wall. It was 2:00 in the afternoon. That means she had been there for more than eight hours. There was a long silence in the room after the doctor left. She had nothing to say to Sammy. She is only feeling very uncomfortable in the room. The room was cozy after the doctor’s departure.

“I’m sorry” Sammy broke the silence.

She looked surprised. She did not understand why he apologized. Was it because of the insults he said to her earlier that morning or what? Was it because she was hospitalized? A lot of thoughts ran through her mind.

“I should be the one apologizing. It’s all my fault. I’m sorry for bedding you. I should have pushed you away. And thank you for bringing me to the hospital. Thanks for everything.” She said with all the strength in her.

He shook his head slowly like he had something to say. She had made up her mind to leave the house that morning after the confrontation. Her current state delayed that action already. She would have left by now if she has not fainted.

“I did that to you right?” He asked surreptitiously.

“What do you mean?” She asked with her teeth tightened like she forced the speech.

Patricia pretended not to understand what he meant. She was not having any of his talks anymore.

“You’re a virgin?”

It sounded more like a question. But without doubt, he already knew the answer. The Doctor must have informed him. Though, Sammy’s voice is no more terrifying but it still sounded loud like a bell. It made her heart beat louder.

“I caused the bleeding.” He continued. “The doctor told me that you bled because you had a cut in your pelvis and it came as a result of the sex. It must have been hard on you.” He said calmly.

How would Sammy use the word “sex.” It’s vulgar and it makes her feel ashamed. She looked the other way so he Won’t see the crimsonness of her face. And moreover looking into his eyes intimidates her. And she does not know what to say anyway.

“Why did you keep to yourself? I Didn’t know you were sick because you bled. Why Didn’t you tell me?” He said piteously.

“You did not give me a chance to do that.” She responded with a husky voice as if something choked her throat.

She realized all his rage earlier that morning had subsided. He did not mean those words he used then too. Perhaps, his anger got the most of him. He spoke with sincerity now. Sammy was an honest person. He doesn’t keep words beneath his tongue. He is straight forward.

“I’m sorry I made you worried. You don’t have to be scared I will take responsibility if I’m pregnant.” She said without listening to herself.

“I’m sorry, Pat. I lost my cool this morning. I accused you because I did not know I forced myself on you. You could sue me if you want.” He said.

“Sue you?” She adjusted and sat on her back. “What are you talking about? To the media we are couples. I gave in because I want to anyway.” She said honestly.

“Why did you? Are you in love with me?” he asked.

“It’s none of your business.”

“It’s my business. You might be carrying my baby you know?”

“Why do you keep talking about pregnancy? Do you want to get rid of me that much? I will leave on my own will. When am discharged I will leave your house? Do not worry.”

“Who asked you to leave? Pat, I said I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I said so much that I shouldn’t have said. But you know you can’t leave now. Our contract is still until next year.”

“I breached the contract when I gave in. So I have broken the first rule anyway.”

There were ten rules on the contract. They promised not to be intimate. She is in love with Sammy, she must admit that to herself even if she keep denying it to his face. This is not the first time Sammy has asked if she was in love with him. But she could not admit it after the warning he gave the night Lisa reported her to Sammy. Sammy is very arrogant. He brags about his looks and how he could make a woman fall for his charms in thirty minutes. Because she is in love with him, she couldn’t bear to live as the “other woman.” He would marry Lisa anyway. So why should she be the block? He had to go through the contract marriage because of that.

Lisa is not ready for marriage because of her modelling career. She will get lesser contracts if she gets married. Lisa choose her career over marrying Sammy but he still waits for her. She would just become his baby mama if she stayed.

“You will do whatever I want, remember its part of our rules. You can leave after having my baby.” He said with that arrogant tone of his.

“Sammy, please stop now.” She said shutting her eyes.

She prayed inside of her not to get pregnant. Sammy makes sure he gets whatever he wants. He never gave up until they are his. He is so used to it. He can’t be blame though. He came from a wealthy family. That makes him get whatever he wants since he was a child.
