CHAPTER ELEVEN
On their way back from the hospital. They drove down to the penthouse to see Sanjana. Sanjana was sitting at the terrace when they arrived. Sanjana is beautiful and elegant. She looks much like Patricia’s favorite Indian actress, Ashwarya Rai. She smiled at Patricia and Nana Kwame as they approached her. Her brick red hair flew in her face in the direction of the air. She gently pulls them behind her ear to see her incoming visitors clearly. She showed them into the house.
Nana Kwame introduced Patricia to Sanjana. She is so lively and chatty. She talks on and on about how her day went during the past few days. She went into the kitchen and brought biscuits and juice for them. Pat refused to take them. She thought sweet things are not meant for her after the incident. But her brother talked to her to change her perception.
“Yes, I knew she is your sister immediately I saw her. She is pretty.” Sanjana complemented Patricia with a broad smile.
Patricia smiled back even when she knew Sanjana was just flattering her. The pregnancy fat has made her face puffy. She thinks she is uglier now. Her face is full of pimples and her feet are swollen.
“You’re also pretty.” Patricia remarked.
Sanjana is actually a beautiful lady. Pat was sincere when she said that she is. Nana Kwame took Patricia round the environment. They stopped at the balcony. He rested on the balustrade while Patricia sat on the woven chair. The view of the city from the penthouse is incredibly amazing. Patricia smiled excitedly. She is breathing in a fresh air. It felt really good.
“I bought you here so I would be able to talk to you better.” Nana Kwame mentioned.
Patricia sat tightly and clenched her fingers. She does not know what is going on in Nana Kwame’s mind. What does he want to ask her? His he also going to judge and blame her like others too? She tried to hold back those tears threatening to fall as usual. Her throat has hardened she could not swallow the lumps down her throat.
“Have Sammy being buried before you came down here?” He asked jerking her out of her thought.
“His corpse was not found.” She replied trying hard to stay calm. She was scared but heaved a sigh of relief to see that her brother is actually concerned about her.
“What? How about his parents? What did they do about it?” He asked surprisingly.
“They are in Canada. It happened too fast. I don’t know if they knew about everything yet.”
“Let’s involve Sanjana. She is a private detective in Indian.”
“No, please don’t. She will look down on me.” Patricia pleaded holding his hands “Come on, she will not. She is understanding and also we need her right now. It just like hiring a prosecutor to help handle a case. A trusted person is who we need. We need to investigate this. Based on what you told me I could sense there is something foul about the case. What happened to Sammy? Who called the cops? Where is Sammy corpse?”
He was pacing while delivering the speech; looking into the air as if he could see some invincible things. He called Sanjana to the balcony and narrated it all to her.
“When the incident happened, where was your gateman?” Sanjana asked looking intensely into Patricia’s eyes.
“Well, I don’t know.” Patricia replied immediately.
The questions threw her mind back to the day of the incident. Sanjana is asking the right questions. On that day, where did Audu go? Patricia could not find an answer to those puzzles that remained unsolved in her head. There are a lot of things that never crossed her mind. She never thought of it. Audu was not around when the police took her away. Even the house help, Amanda was not there too. She was unable to think straight. She was too troubled to do that.
Sanjana also asked if anyone came to the house that night other than her and Sammy. But she had no response to that because she could not remember how and when she slept off. Sanjana said they have to find those people. They are suspects. They must know one or two things about the crime. In other to find an answer to these puzzles, they need to travel back to Nigeria. Patricia felt the need to clear her name. She wants the public to really know she is innocent. Nana Kwame and Sanjana agreed to travel to Nigeria to dig deeper. Patricia also wants to go with them but Nana Kwame wants her to stay behind. He said Maame Serwa will sense that something is wrong if they both leave. And she will be too stressed travelling too. He would lie to Maame Serwa and his wife that he has some urgent business to attend to in Nigeria.
