Chapter 6 Who Was She Crying for?
Tonight, the auction house was packed with top–notch bigwigs, all after that purple diamond.
In Cristofer’s book, Maryanne didn’t belong here. She didn’t even have the right to be here.
Maryanne took a sideways glance at the man in front of her, his handsome face cold and mocking.
Seeing his disgusted and frosty look, she was puzzled. What on earth had she done wrong?
Why was he treating her like this?
When she thought about the baby in her belly, almost four months along and starting to show, her heart hurt even more.
She had decided to make a go of it with Cristofer, but he had betrayed her!
Seeing that Maryanne didn’t say a word, Cristofer was ticked off.
“Maryanne, what are you doing here? Have you got any idea who you are? Do you even belong here? When the real boss shows up, you’re gonna make a fool of yourself.”
Maryanne shot him a cold look, and a wave of pain washed over her.
What did he really think of her?
His betrayal had snapped her out of her dreams and made her realize how hard it was for her to find love.

Maryanne leaned back lazily and said in a careless tone, “If you can be here, why can’t I? My seat seems more rightful than yours.”
Cristofer’s face turned serious. He gazed at her radiant and captivating face, and it seemed like there was a flicker of anger in his cold eyes.
He remembered what his assistant had said about the luxury car and the handsome guy, and his eyes turned sharp. “Are you here for your boyfriend?”
He suddenly realized the girl in front of him felt like a total stranger.
He had known her for four years, and she had always had a sad look in her eyes. She had never looked this amazing before.
Maryanne gave a cold, thin smile. “No, I’m here on my own.”
Just then, Esteban slapped Cristofer’s arm and showed him a name. The guest in the first VIP seat was Leandro.
Cristofer’s eyes darkened with a fierce, almost predatory look as he stared at Maryanne. “So you’re here for that guy?”
It turned out that the man Maryanne had hooked up with was the mysterious rich man Leandro.
Cristofer was filled with searing anger. How had he never seen that Maryanne was so good at charming men?
“Maryanne, you really disgust me.” Cristofer’s jealousy was burning in his eyes.
She had only been gone for a month, and she already had a new guy!
Maryanne felt like her heart had been cleaved in two, the pain causing

her chest to constrict sharply. Her face twisted in agony as she lowered her gaze, unable to look at Cristofer.
So this was how much Cristofer hated her, feeling grossed out just by seeing her.
She decided to move on and stop loving him.
Her eyes were cold and fierce. “Cristofer, you’re disgusting too. A good ex–husband should disappear like he’s dead. Don’t show up at all.”
Cristofer frowned at her, but he couldn’t get any words out.
Latoya, hearing Cristofer’s words, smiled smugly. Maryanne couldn’t outdo her.
Meanwhile, the first item of the auction had started.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we now present the first item of the evening, the Massif Landscape,” the auctioneer announced.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Maryanne’s eyes shot to the painting on stage.
She was totally shocked. How could the Massif Landscape be here?
Why was Timothy Bradford’s painting here?
Her heart ached. He had been dead for four years already.
Maryanne’s eyes were glistening with tears. She only came back to reality when Cristofer next to her raised his paddle to bid.
She glanced at him, and their eyes met by accident.
Seeing the clear, sparkling tears in her eyes, Cristofer felt his breath
catch.

This was the first time he had ever seen her cry. Her sadness, pain, and helplessness made him feel bad.
Who was she crying for?
Maryanne seemed to realize she had lost it. She quickly looked back at the Massif Landscape on stage.
She had no idea why it was here, but she knew it couldn’t end up in someone else’s hands.
There was a huge secret hidden in it.
Maryanne texted her assistant Stefanie Obrien sitting behind her. She had come prepared today. If there was something she liked, she wanted Stefanie to bid on it for her.
She was here only for the purple diamond.
“Stefanie, no matter how much it costs, you gotta get this painting for me.”
“Got it.”
The bid had hit 1.5 million dollars.
And the one bidding was Cristofer. Once he made a move, no one dared to go against him.
The auctioneer excitedly said, “1.5 million for the third time. Is there anyone else willing to bid?”
Just then, a lady in the last row raised her paddle.
“3 million dollars.”
“4.5 million dollars.”
