Chapter 4 You’re Dirty
Maryanne stopped walking. Before she could turn around, she heard Cristofer’s mean words.
“I’ll have someone bring your stuff down. Don’t dirty up my company’s floor. Don’t you know how dirty you are?”
His cold words hit Maryanne like a punch in the gut.
He was the dirty one, but he had the nerve to throw accusations at her.
Maryanne spun around, her eyes sharp and a little bit lazy, with a clear hint of disdain. “Cristofer, aren’t you the dirtier one?”
She glanced pointedly at Latoya, who was standing next to Cristofer.
The words weren’t aimed at Latoya, but she felt like she had been slapped in the face.
“Cris…” She gritted her teeth and glared at Maryanne.
Cristofer leaned in and deliberately planted a kiss on her cheek. “Toya, be good. I’ll go wait in line and get you that iee cream cake you love later.”
Maryanne clenched her fists, not looking at the scene that made her heart hurt.
She loved ice cream cake too, but Cristofer always said she couldn’t have it because it was bad for her health. So, he just didn’t want to get it for her.
That was the difference between love and indifference.

Latoya snuggled into Cristofer’s arms and smiled brightly.
Cristofer squinted his eyes, looking at Maryanne. She seemed different. She used to be distant, but she had never been this aggressive before.
He finally noticed what she was wearing today. The bright red blazer looked amazing on her perfect body. It was so different from the plain and simple girl he used to know.
What surprised him even more was that she had cut her hair.
She used to keep her hair long because he once said, “I like your long hair.”
Now, with her hair cut short to her ears, she looked sharp and smart. Her red outfit was like a blazing fire, and her usually cold eyes were calm, composed, and reserved.
Maryanne didn’t want to go upstairs, so she called a former colleague and asked her to bring down the things from her drawer.
She didn’t want to step into Cristofer’s company again.
A few minutes later, her colleague brought her stuff. She took a look- it was the file she wanted. Without looking back, she got into the car with the box and drove off.
Latoya couldn’t believe Maryanne’s luck. No matter how hard she tried to outdo her, Maryanne always ended up with the rich and powerful.
But this was better. Now she could have Cristofo
all to herself.
“Cris, Maryanne’s boyfriend must be loaded, right? Her car is way nicer than yours.”
Cristofer’s eyes were hard to read. That guy Maryanne was with wasn’t

ordinary. This whole month, he couldn’t dig up any info on Maryanne, and he sure as hell didn’t find a single lead on the mysterious man.
“She and I are divorced now. We’re going our separate ways.”
Cristofer strode over to his car nearby, standing tall and straight.
Latoya watched his back, feeling annoyed. For the past month, she had been with Cristofer every day, trying to get closer to him. But he was always nice to her and never stayed over at her place.
“Cris, wait for me!” Latoya ran after Cristofer and got into the car with him. There was a charity gala tonight.
It was said that an expensive purple diamond was going to be auctioned off.
She was determined to have Cristofer bid on it and make it their engagement ring.
Cristofer had called her earlier, saying he’d take her to the auction. She was thrilled and dressed up nicely for it.

Maryanne hadn’t gone far in her car when she got a call from Theron.
“Grandpa.”
“Sweetheart, there’s a purple diamond up for auction at tonight’s charity gala. No matter how much it costs, you gotta get it.”
Maryanne was a little taken aback. “Grandpa, don’t you like beads? When did you start liking diamonds?”
“Don’t worry about that. Just get the diamond. I’ve got my reasons.”
