Chapter 102: Sissy Bear

Chapter 102: Sissy Bear
Mirage’s P.O.V

My eyes fluttered open to the familiar ceiling of my room back at the packhouse of the Ocean Runners pack.

However, it took me a second to realize that it wasn’t the ceiling to the room that I shared with Alex…but the room that I had been staying at before…when I had first arrived at the pack.

But before the sinking feeling could settle in my stomach, a face appeared in my vision that had my eyes widening with shock as my memories of recent times returned with a vengeance.

“Maze!”

“Finally, sissy!” She gave me a big smile. “I was getting tired of waiting for you to wake up!”

And with that, she literally pounced on top of me, engulfing me in her arms and swamp me in the familiar scent of her body.

I wrapped my arms around her just as tightly; holding on to her just like she was holding on to me. At Alistair’s place, there had been hardly any time for us to actually interact with each other, but now, we had all the time in the world.

“How? Wh-where?” I shook my head, unable to form proper words or sentences.

There was so much I wanted to ask her…so much I had to apologize for. How had she been all this time? Who was that vampire she was with? How had she become such a skilled fighter? I-

“I know you have so many questions,” Maze moved back to look into my face. “I do too…and I wanted to say…I’m sorry. If I hadn't been stubborn and gone out that nig-”

“Hey,” I held onto her cheeks, shaking my head. “It’s not your fault. It’s not our fault that our blood is addictive to vampires and it’s definitely not your fault that a psycho vamp followed you home. If there is anyone at fault, then it’s that sick fucker of a vampire who thought we were easy access!”

“You know…not all vamps are bad either, right?” Maze asked me sheepishly, batting her eyelashes at me.

I gave her a frown before holding my hands up for her. “Ugh! Help me up.”

She did as told and helped me sit up in bed and straightened the pillows at my back. I leaned back on the pillows, still feeling the weakness from the blood loss as my hand went to the side of my neck to feel the bandages from where Alistair had taken a bite out of me.

“Why am I not in a full-body cast or something?” I asked her. “I remember my spine getting injured.”

“Daisy took care of that for you.” Maze shrugged, sitting on the bed beside me. “She’s pretty cool actually. Everyone in this pack is…I’m glad you got a really nice mate and an equally nice pack as family.”

“If…I still have a mate.” I muttered under my breath. Because no matter what I had said to Alistair…it had all been to scare him into believing that we had come prepared. But the truth remained unchanged…I had been a stupid, gullible fool, who had thought that she could take on a century old vamp on her own, not to mention his risen-from-the-dead demon accomplish.

“Well, considering the fact that he had been here, right beside you for the past two days non-stop…I’d say yes, you still do.”

“Two days?” I looked at my sister wide eyed. “How long have I been out for?”

“Three if I count the day we brought you back,” she shrugged. “A lot had happened since then. Especially the fact that Laz…my mate, Lazarus, had already located our father and he’s already on his way to the pack…and so is our dear, sweet grandmother. We’re going to have a family reunion…Yayy…”

I looked at her with my mouth gaping open like a fish.

So much had happened and I had been asleep through it all? Why on earth?

“It was because of your spine,” Maze explained before I could ask. “Daisy said that the more rest you got, the quicker it’ll heal, so she put you under some heavy sedatives.”

“You know…you’re really annoying when you keep answering the questions I hadn't even asked yet.” I told her sourly.

“Aww…” She gave me a kiss on the cheeks. “I love you, sissy bear!”

I wanted to smack her; I really did, especially for using that ridiculous nickname…but I decided to forgive her instead. Wrapping my arms around her, I kissed her forehead instead. “I love you too!”

I weaved my hand through her curly hair, loving the fact that my sister had changed a lot over the past two years, and definitely for the better. When I had seen her enter the room with the crossbow and her sword…I could hardly believe that she was the same Maze that had always been the spoilt brat of the family, the girl we all loved to pieces. That hadn't changed one bit. I still loved her to bits, but I would have to find out more about this mate of hers to trust him anywhere near her again.

I don’t care what happened in my absence…but now that her ‘sissy bear’ was back, I was going to have a word or two with that pesky vamp before he comes near my sister again.

“You know…I think I can practically hear your mind working right now and I do not like the direction this is going in…” Maze said sheepishly, raising her head to narrow her eyes at me.

“Should’ve thought of that before mating with a vampire.”

But just as I spoke the words, I felt Alex’s mind connect with mine as he woke up from sleep and immediately began searching for me.

‘Mirage…’

Hearing his voice inside my mind was different, and yet it felt just right, like he had always belonged right here.

‘Hi…’ I told him, still getting used to the communication thing.

Alex’s laugh told me that he might have some access to my thoughts as well.

‘Did you have a nice nap?’ I asked him. ‘I want to see you…’

‘I’ll be right there.’ He said, before the connecting went silent.

“You’re talking to your mate, aren’t you?” Maze wiggled her eyebrows at me creepily, something I had NOT missed while I was away from her.

“Yes.” I sighed. “I think I threaten your mate later; he gets a free pass…just for now.”

“Hey…” Maze whined, just as there was a knock on the door.

“Fine, you get a free pass this time as well,” she got up from the bed and gave me the finger before running towards the door. “But this conversation isn’t over!”

“Far from it!” I told her as she took the chance to escape, and then I saw Alex walk into the room…without the tracker.
