Chapter 253
Chapter 253
Vivian
I sat quietly in the bridal preparation room, watching as Katherine's attendants made final adjustments to her gown. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, filled with soft laughter and excited whispers.
Marriage among our kind wasn't merely a legal contract or social convention. It was the binding of two souls, a connection that transcended the physical realm. An eternal bond that, when formed between true mates, became the most precious moment in a werewolf's life.
I was particularly pleased that Lucas had agreed to be Harrison's best man. Given their complicated history, it represented a significant step toward healing.
Lucas hadn't shared the details of their conversation, but I could sense through our bond that something had shifted between them. The wall of resentment Lucas had maintained for so long had developed a small crack.
---
The garden at Mist Mountain Pack had been transformed into a breathtaking wedding venue. Two rows of white chairs lined either side of a central aisle, creating an intimate space for the ceremony.
At the front, a special place had been prepared for Katherine's wheelchair, positioned beside where Harrison would stand.
The path itself was paved with moonstone—a beautiful touch that would catch the light and create a luminous walkway for Katherine.
Selene, Daisy and I had spent hours decorating, blending traditional werewolf symbols with more contemporary elements. Silver wolf silhouettes had been woven into garlands of white roses and blue hydrangeas, while crystal prisms hung from the surrounding trees, casting rainbow patterns across the gathering space.
Malcolm stood at the front, looking surprisingly approachable in his ceremonial robes. He was speaking quietly with Harrison, whose face bore a rare, genuine smile. I'd never seen the older Alpha look so... human.
Archer and Daisy were already seated on the left side, with Daisy's children fidgeting beside them.
Despite the festive occasion, I noticed Archer's eyes continuously scanning the perimeter—the Alpha in him never truly at rest.
I deliberately chose a seat behind the Frost family on the right side. Partly because Lucas would be standing with Harrison as a Frost, and partly because I'd promised Grace I would observe Archer's reaction when she arrived.
'Emotionally stunted Alpha,' I thought with mild frustration. If he remained this cold, he would lose any chance with Grace.
I knew Lucas would disapprove of my interference—he'd made that abundantly clear—but I couldn't help wanting to see my friend and his brother find happiness. They both deserved it after everything they'd been through.
---
The glass doors to the garden slid open, and every head turned. Grace stood framed in the entrance, and I couldn't suppress a smile when I saw Archer's reaction. His body went rigid for just a second, and a flash of silver passed through his eyes before he regained control.
The click of Grace's heels against the moonstone path echoed in the momentary silence. She looked absolutely breathtaking in a blush-pink satin dress with an asymmetrical cut that revealed one long leg through a thigh-high slit. The material hugged her waist perfectly before flowing elegantly to the floor. Around her neck was a simple silver chain that caught the light with every step.
I bit the inside of my cheek to hide my smug smile when I detected the momentary fluctuation in Archer's scent—a subtle shift that betrayed his interest despite his carefully controlled expression.
"Grace! You look absolutely gorgeous. There's a seat right here," I called out, deliberately louder than necessary while pointing to the empty chair beside Archer.
Grace's eyes met mine, one eyebrow slightly raised. "Thank you..." she replied, immediately recognizing my less-than-subtle matchmaking attempt.
She gracefully took the offered seat. I stole a glance at Archer and was delighted to detect the slight acceleration in his heartbeat. His face remained impassive, but I could hear the change in his rhythm—a small victory.
---
"Alpha Uncle!" Daisy's youngest suddenly called out, effectively breaking the moment. "Can I sit with you?"
Archer smoothly shifted his attention to the child, but I noticed his scent hadn't quite returned to normal. I made a mental note to tell Grace about this encouraging sign later.
Selene turned in her seat and smiled warmly at Grace. "You look beautiful today. That dress suits you perfectly."
"Thank you, you too," Grace replied politely but briefly before looking away.
I couldn't help but reflect on Grace's complicated feelings toward Selene. The rumors about Archer's former interest in Selene still lingered in pack gossip, though that had been years ago. I knew it bothered Grace more than she would admit.
My mood dampened slightly as I recognized the complexity of the situation. I wanted Archer and Grace to find their way to each other, not just because they might be fated mates, but because they genuinely deserved happiness.
But Archer needed to fully release any lingering feelings for Selene and truly see Grace's worth.
I shot an irritated glare at Archer, which he immediately noticed. His eyes met mine across the aisle.
'Hey, what did I do to anger you?' his voice slipped into my mind through the Alpha connection.
'Yes, you did. Don't play dumb. It doesn't suit an Alpha,' I replied through our mental link.
'So, you noticed too,' came his cryptic response.
Archer's gaze became serious as he looked directly at me. 'We'll talk later. Now isn't the time.'
---
The soft melody of a piano drew everyone's attention to the center of the garden. Archer had taken his place at the crystal piano and began playing.
I had to admit, his musical talent was impressive. The piece he played was complex yet emotional, his fingers moving with practiced precision across the keys.
Archer caught Daisy's eye and nodded. She immediately stood and went to bring Katherine in to hear his performance.
I noticed Grace steal a quick glance at Archer's long fingers as they danced across the keys, before quickly averting her eyes. Another small victory.
---
The music paused as Lucas entered, escorting Daisy's daughter Jasmine and little Sophia. Both girls wore matching white dresses and held onto Lucas's arms with solemn importance.
The image of my normally intimidating mate gently guiding two small girls down the aisle made my heart swell.
'Don't laugh, little mate,' Lucas warned through our bond.
'I'm not laughing,' I responded. 'You three look adorable together.' I quickly snapped a photo with my phone, wanting to preserve this rare moment.
---
Daisy, Selene, and others were captivated by the scene of Lucas with the flower girls. From the row behind me, I heard Max whisper to Vortend, "The girls look like little snow elves, but uncle still looks cool. I'm cooler than him though."
"Max..." Selene warned in a low voice.
When Lucas reached the front, he visibly relaxed as he released the girls and resumed his serious expression.
As Katherine prepared to make her entrance, I felt a rush of anticipation. There was something profoundly moving about witnessing two souls choose to bind themselves together—especially at their age, when they had already experienced so much of life separately. It reminded me that love could find us at any stage of life, often when we least expected it.
I glanced over at Lucas, standing tall and proud beside Harrison. Despite everything, he had chosen to support his father on this important day. My heart swelled with pride and love for my complicated, fascinating mate.
Today was about sacred bonds—not just between Harrison and Katherine, but between father and son, between friends, between packs. As the ceremony began, I found myself grateful to be witness to it all.
