Chapter 97 Core Choices

Chapter 97 Core Choices
~Elowen's POV~

The core chamber pulsed with living energy that pressed against the skin like a second heartbeat.

Valerian's true form loomed tall and ancient in the center, veins glowing with stolen World power that shifted like liquid starlight beneath his skin.

I stood alone at first on the fractured edge, the weight of my new lines settling on my shoulders like quiet armor.

"Earned," I whispered to myself, tracing the faint crease at the corner of my eye. "These marks are mine now."

I reached for the triad scars through the bond, drawing strength from every thread.

Alaric's unyielding strength grounded me, Sylion's steady patience anchored me, and my own will, sharpened by the years and the recent aging, rose.

The marks flared hot across my skin, silver light leaking between my fingers.

I slammed my palms together and pushed every thread of our linked power into the barrier with a cry that echoed through the chamber.

The World barrier shattered outward in a brilliant wave of clean, purifying light. Threats sealed, and the rift was closed with sharp snaps.

The flood of beasts began to fade at the edges, their howls turning into fading echoes that dissolved into harmless mist.

My boy flew through the widening gap, wings steady now, controlled and powerful.

Lira ran in right behind him from the other side, her small feet pounding across the glowing floor. They met in the center and clasped hands without hesitation.

Their hybrid auras harmonized instantly... gold, crimson, and pure relic weaving together into one steady, radiant glow that filled the chamber with warm light.

The remaining beasts howled once in defeat, then dissolved completely into harmless mist that drifted away like morning fog.

I pulled both children close, wrapping my arms around them as tears stung my eyes. "You did it, together. You held the balance when the rest of us were breaking."

The boy looked up at me, voice calm and older than his years. "We're whole now, Mama. The gate isn't hungry anymore and it feels… peaceful."

Lira nodded against my side, her small hand still clasped tightly with her brother's. "It doesn't hurt inside anymore, we made it stop."

The Second World began to settle around us, shifting from chaotic storms into something new and stable.

Colors softened, ground steadying, and air growing sweet and breathable once more...

~Alaric's POV~

Victory settled over the stabilized realm that afternoon like a long-held breath finally released.

The fighting had ended, and the new realm stood calm beyond the gate core, a place of balanced energy instead of an endless storm.

Everyone gathered in the central nexus.

Elowen was with the children close at her sides, Sylion leaning against a pillar with his silvered hair catching the light, and me standing a few paces away, still feeling the echo of the curse Tazira had left burning in my chest.

I dropped to one knee in front of Elowen, taking her hand in both of mine with surprising gentleness. Sylion had let go, which made everything easy for me.

And the new lines on Elowen's face only made her more beautiful to me at that moment.

"We've come through fire together," I said quietly. "Let this be the start of something lasting, an eternal alliance. You, me, the packs, and the children. Stay and lead with me, Elowen, as my Luna. We can build something real this time."

She looked down at me, eyes soft but steady, carrying the weight of every choice we had made.

"Alaric…"

Before she could speak further, the boy stepped forward and met all our gazes with quiet authority that silenced the room.

"I'm all of you," he said clearly, voice carrying the depth of someone far older. "Alaric's strength taught me to stand tall. Sylion's heart that taught me to protect without losing myself. Even pieces of what Valerian tried to make me in his dark ways. But my Mom is the key that holds us together."

Lira nodded beside him, gripping his hand tighter, her small voice adding, "We're a family now. Not because of blood alone, but because we chose each other."

Then the air shifted suddenly.

The Relic we had claimed, pulsed once, bright and final, sending a wave of warm light through the chamber.

The Second World stabilized fully into its new realm... beautiful, balanced, and alive with soft colors with gentle winds.

Then a final vision slammed into me through the oath scars, hitting like a physical blow.

I saw Ancient guardians rise in the distance... massive, timeless figures of pure World energy, their forms towering like living mountains.

Their voices echoed in my head, cold and absolute.

"The children's hybrid blood has awakened us. To seal peace forever, one of the two Alphas present must give their life essence to the guardians. A final sacrifice to bind the realms."

The vision faded, leaving heavy silence in its wake. I stared at Sylion across the chamber, then at Elowen and the children.

The guardians' presence lingered, waiting for an answer as the new realm held its breath around us.

The final choice... the true cost of peace still hung unresolved, threatening to undo everything we had fought so hard to build.

The children looked between us with wide eyes, the weight of the guardians' demand pressing down on all of us like the sky itself.

The story was not over, and the final sacrifice still waited to be named.

But before anyone could speak again, the air rippled. Valerian's form, still merged with the horde, flickered and dissolved into black mist.

The last echo of his laugh faded as he vanished completely, pulled apart by the very gate he had tried using to control all of us.

The realm settled into true peace at last, leaving only the living to decide its future.

The guardians waited in silence, their demand still hanging heavy. One Alpha, one life essence... That's the price of forever.

No one moved, and the choice remained...
