Chapter 62 The Night of the Moonlit Reunion

Chapter 62 The Night of the Moonlit Reunion
62: The Night of the Moonlit Reunion

I had always believed in epic reunions. In dramatic, movie-worthy, sweeping gestures that made your heart beat like a drumline gone rogue. This was not that. This was worse. Better. Completely unhinged.

I stumbled into the tent, my legs still wobbly from the ritual exhaustion and adrenaline that hadn’t yet realized it was time to leave me alone. The soft glow of moonlight filtered through the thin canvas walls, painting everything in silver and shadow. It was beautiful in the kind of way that made you want to weep, kiss, and punch someone all at once. In other words, exactly how I had always pictured Lucian.

And there he was. Sitting on the edge of the cot where the blankets had been tossed aside in a careless heap. Shirtless. The blood on his skin had been bandaged, but faint crimson traces still painted the edges of his chest and shoulders, highlighting every muscle as if the moon itself was sculpting him. His hair was wild, his eyes dark, and there was a hunger in him that had nothing to do with dinner.

My brain short-circuited. My chest fluttered like a bird trying to escape a too-tight cage. I opened my mouth. Closed it. Opened it again. Stupid things came out, like, “You look alive, now.” Because apparently, that was my peak intelligence at the moment.

Lucian’s lips twitched, barely. Just a hint of amusement, but it didn’t touch the heat in his gaze. He stood slowly, moving closer. Every step he took made my stomach do gymnastics I did not want to admit.

“You’re here,” he said, voice low, almost shaking. “You’re actually here.”

I nodded because the words were ridiculous. Who needed them anyway when the entire universe had condensed into the space between us?

He took another step. And another. My chest pressed against the cot now, heart hammering, brain filing emergency reports, lungs failing to catch air. His hands reached for me and I realized I had never wanted something more in my entire life. Maybe ever. Maybe even in my previous lifetimes when I had been a goddess or Aria or some dramatic undead spirit of doom.

Lucian’s hands cupped my face with reverence, urgency, and hunger all mixed into one. I melted into them before I even had a chance to breathe. My hands climbed his chest, finding the ridges of muscle and the warmth beneath the skin. The smell of him, the heat radiating off his body, the scent of blood, leather, and smoke mixed with his natural alpha essence, had my brain screaming inappropriately romantic ways.

“You are mine,” he whispered. “Do you understand? Mine. Every life. Every moment. Every choice. Always.”

I laughed shakily, the sound breaking like fragile glass. “Mine too,” I breathed. “I think. Hopefully. If you haven’t scared me to death yet.”

He didn’t answer with words. He answered with his mouth. His lips crushed against mine and suddenly the world outside the tent ceased to exist. There were no armies, no ruined palaces and no Halecrest politics. There was only this. Only us.

I pressed my body against him, my hands tangling in his hair. His tongue met mine and every nerve ending in my body ignited like fireworks in a dry forest. I was desperate, terrified, exhilarated. I had never known a kiss could feel like the end of the world and the salvation of it at the same time.

Lucian growled softly, the vibration rumbling against my chest. I shivered, delighted, and touched the mark on my wrist without thinking. The relic shards had left residue in my veins, a trace of the ancient magic binding our souls together. And it surged now, responding to him. Reacting. Whispering in the language of fated lovers, alpha and goddess, Luna and eternal mate.

“I can’t believe you’re actually here,” I murmured against his lips, trying to make him feel slightly guilty for existing in such a perfect and distracting way.

He laughed, low and ragged, and tugged me closer. “Do you know what I’ve done since the ritual? Since you disappeared into my arms? Nothing but hunt and wait. Wait for you to be alive, for you to come back to me.”

I stared at him. That sentence was simple, but it broke me into tiny, glittering pieces. I wanted to cry. I wanted to kiss him harder. I wanted to punch him. I wanted him to say it again.

Instead, I decided to climb onto his lap. Not because I was short and dramatic, though that helped, but because gravity itself clearly had a crush on him and had declared he was mine too. My legs wrapped around his waist and my arms locked around his shoulders. His hands went to my back, pressing me closer as if he could fuse our bodies together.

Lucian groaned, a sound full of danger, desire, and devotion. “Keira. You have no idea what it does to me to feel you. To touch you. To have you here. Alive.”

I buried my face against his neck, inhaling him like it was air itself. “Then don’t. Stop talking. Just touch me.” My voice was barely a whisper, shaky, and more desperate than I thought possible for a human being.

And then he did. He moved with deliberate care, mapping every inch of me as if he had all the time in the world but refused to waste a single second. My nightgown slipped further off my shoulder and his hands followed the line of skin it revealed. His lips traveled down my neck, sucking, biting lightly, marking me without warning. I gasped, and he groaned against my skin, like I was a melody he had been searching for across lifetimes.

I touched the mark forming on my shoulder instinctively. The energy thrummed, alive and vibrating in response to him. It was our blood, our magic, our history, bleeding into the present.

Lucian lifted my chin with a finger, making me look at him. His eyes were molten gold and crimson and something older than the universe. “You belong to me,” he said. “And I will mark you. Not to claim. Not to cage. To bind. To protect. To make sure the universe remembers you are mine. As I am yours.”

I laughed shakily. “You could have just send letters.” My attempt at humor cracked under the heat of the moment.

“No,” he said, firm, almost growling. “No messages. No hesitation. This is us. Now.”

He pressed a hand to my stomach, and I realized instinctively that he was guiding my energy as much as his own. Our powers intertwined, magic coiling between us like silver fire. The relic residue in me flared to life, responding to his alpha energy, glowing softly, pulsating with the heartbeat of fate and freedom and unbroken curses.

We kissed again, slower this time, savoring, tasting, learning. Hands explored, not recklessly but with hunger and reverence. Every brush of skin against skin was a declaration. A warning. A promise.

I touched him, feeling the raw marks forming across his shoulders and chest, his veins glowing faintly, the remnants of our merged magic leaving indelible signs. “We are ridiculous,” I whispered against his lips. “Like, apocalypse-level dramatic, universe-endangering ridiculous.”

He growled in agreement, a low vibration that went straight to my chest. “I do not care about ridiculous. I care about you.”

We moved together, slow at first, careful as if the world could shatter if we rushed. Then need took over. Desperate, breathless, molten. I gasped into his mouth as his hands traced over the lines of my back, over the marks forming from our blood, relic, and ancient bond. He whispered my name like a prayer that could warp time itself.

“You are mine. Only mine. Always. Forever. In this life and every life to come.”

I clung to him. My body thrummed, my veins singing with energy and desire. “And you are mine. Always. I do not care about consequences. Only you. Only us.”

We moved together in a rhythm that felt preordained, predestined, a dance older than kingdoms and curses. Every touch, every kiss, every sigh intertwined with magic, love, and desperation. We marked each other fully, Lucian leaving the alpha imprint across my skin and I channeling the goddess energy from the relics into him. Our bodies and souls were one declaration, one act of rebellion against fate, against curses, against every blade that had ever tried to cut us apart.

Hours passed or maybe minutes. Time lost meaning. There was only him. Only me. Only the universe coiling around us as if it had been waiting for this exact moment.

Finally, we collapsed together, tangled, marked, and breathing in sync. My cheek rested against his chest, his arms wrapped around me with a fierce protectiveness that was neither demanding nor possessive, but absolute.

I could feel the remnants of our energy lingering on the skin, the faint glow of the relic fragments in me dimming as their purpose had been fulfilled. Our marks remained, a permanent declaration of the night, of us, of the breaking of curses and the rewriting of fates.

“I am alive,” I whispered against him. “And I am yours.”

He pressed a soft kiss to my temple, murmuring, “And I am yours. Always.”

The world outside the tent continued its slow recovery. Dravenmoor’s warriors tended to the wounded, the wind whispered through the skeletal trees, and the moon hung heavy in the sky like a guardian watching over the last unbroken curse.

But inside the tent, in this fleeting, sacred space, there was only us. Our hearts beating together, our breaths mingling, our magic and love and destiny intertwined.

And for once, my thought, smiling faintly despite exhaustion, chaos, and lingering heat, we were exactly where we were supposed to be. Together. Whole. Marked. Alive.

And the night, heavy with moonlight and magic, held us in its embrace as we drifted into the deepest, most dreamless sleep of our lives.
