JEROME DAWSON's POV
"Wait for a second. You're misunderstanding something here, Mr. Asterbelle and Mrs. Asterbelle," I politely said as I looked at each one of them as I mentioned their names. "It's not like I forced Luna to do something indecent. We were just doing what mates should be doing. That's not too wrong for us, right? In fact, it would be better for the both of us to be pronounced as mates as early as now, since we would still be able to adapt to a society where we're going to be the greatest ---"
"Who gave you the permission to speak, little boy of the Dawson Clan?" Mr. Asterbelle cut me off. His gaze was deadly, and that was enough to completely prevent me from uttering a single word. "You should know your place, boy. As far as I know, your parents don't even have anything worthy to be proud of. Your clan wouldn't even ring a bell to a stranger out there. That's how low you should think of yourself, so what right do you have to speak to someone that you should highly respect?" he added.
It's as if my feet were receiving such pressure to stop me from stepping even an inch away from my current spot, in every statement that Mr. Asterbelle stated. And yet, a different type of burning sensation ignited through my veins. It was about to explode and I don't know what I would end up doing to either Luna's adoptive mother or father if I ever lost my sanity.
"Come on, let's not get this argument worse than it already is. Whatever the two of you did today would be erased in her memories the moment that I got her out of this orphanage. I wouldn't want her to keep on thinking about someone like you as she grows older. You might end up becoming her weakness, and that's one of the things that I'd like to avoid as much as possible," Mrs. Asterbelle spoke to break the tension that's occurring between her husband and I.
The mother tried to go near us, probably to bring Luna to her side, but I stretched out my arm in front of Luna, which made Mrs. Asterbelle halt her movements. "Let me see you try and take Luna, you won't get away unscathed," I mumbled with severe desperation that they'd actually back off.
Mr. Asterbelle suddenly ran towards the other side of Luna where it was out of my reach. "You're wasting our precious time here, little kid of the Dawson Clan," he coldly said with the eyes of someone who sees me as an unworthy child. "You're coming with us, Luna Asterbelle," he said with such authority to her.
I noticed how Luna's eyes were filled with fear. It was like she's begging for me to help her. The wolf inside me was yearning to break free in each second that went by without stepping a foot nearer to her adoptive father.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you beforehand, old folks,” I murmured in between my short gasps.
I can sense it; the power inside me that’s waiting to be released.
My body feels hot inside. It may sound absurd, but there’s really this certain burning sensation that makes me want to start a fire in this damn orphanage. My eyesight was altered. I can only see Mr. and Mrs. Asterbelle’s location.
They’re my wolf’s main prey.
“Don’t do it, Jerome… The wolf inside me is crying,” Luna sobbed. “So please, cool yourself.”
I bit my lower lip in frustration. “If what they said was all true, then I’m certain that you won’t even have any idea about what occurred in this day and time by the next time that we encounter each other.”
That was the last thing that came out of my mouth. Everything went ablaze as I began to bring out flames through my palm. It wasn’t from my wolf.
It’s faint but, there’s a magical power that’s surging within my soul whose source was unknown.
Those two instantly covered themselves with the use of their arms. Mr. Asterbelle tried so hard just to keep Luna trapped inside his embrace so that she won’t get affected by what I did.
“That amount of flames that you possess…” Mrs. Asterbelle spoke after she went silent earlier. “There’s no way that the two of you are actually related, right? It’s impossible,” she added.
I have no clue what she was blabbering about, but she might have a hunch regarding the flames that I randomly acquired.
“Take Luna with you, I’ll handle things here,” Mr. Asterbelle hurriedly said to his wife, at the same time that he pushed the little girl to her.
My eyebrows furrowed the instant that I saw the two of them running away from the premises of this orphanage’s library, so I directed my palm towards their next path.
“Not so fast, kid,” Mr. Asterbelle gripped onto my wrist as tight as he could, then twisted it.
The pain that circulated from my wrist was enough to bring me to my knees. “Sh*t!” I yelled out when my plan to burn the two was prevented.
“Whatever relation the two of you have, I will never approve you to be my daughter’s mate in the near future. I don’t give a damn about what sort of punishment I would end up receiving from the moon goddess,” he said with a straight face.
Mr. Asterbelle’s back was facing me as I watched him getting further away from me. “Wait… I said, wait!” I stood up but remained in the same spot as I couldn’t take full control of my body anymore. “Why do you speak as if Luna’s really your daughter? She isn’t even related to any of you by blood,” I asked out of curiosity.
“I believe that’s none of your business. Don’t worry, I’ll remove this scenario inside your mind as well. Both you and Luna won’t be able to remember this day even if you spend each and every single hour of your life together in the same academy,” Mr. Asterbelle replied, not bothering to give a proper answer to my query.
I’d rather die than forget what happened today. I’ll absolutely engrave into my mind about the burn mark that left a scar on their shoulders.
There’s no way that they’d be able to erase that evidence.
I took one last glimpse at Luna as she stared at me with pity in her eyes. Even though it was kind of forced, I still formed a smile on my face to make her think that everything would be alright.
It should be alright.
I swear that I’ll come back to your side, Luna.
