Chapter 89 It’s Actually Him

Layla: [Olivia, I've seen your design submission. Excellent work! Congratulations on passing the preliminary round.]

Layla: [I won't send you a formal invitation for the next round since we've already discussed it.]

Layla: [Take some rest these next few days. Don't be nervous about the finals—I believe in you.]

After returning home, Olivia felt an invisible weight lift from her shoulders as she read Layla's encouraging messages. A relieved smile spread across her face.

Thank goodness she hadn't disappointed Layla.

Olivia: [Got it!]

Olivia: [Thank you so much for mentoring me and giving me this opportunity.]

Layla: [This is the result of your hard work. Keep it up!]

Olivia sent back a cute thank-you emoji, then flopped onto her bed with her phone resting on her chest. A warm feeling washed over her. 'So this is what it feels like to be supported and encouraged.' she wondered.

It felt wonderful. She realized she hadn't experienced this feeling for what seemed like forever—so long that she now felt the urge to cry.

"I can't let Layla down," she muttered to herself.

Recalling Layla's words, Olivia felt a surge of motivation that instantly dispelled her fatigue. She sat up straight in her office chair, suddenly energized.

She decided to sketch out her draft design for the finals tonight.

With her goal set, Olivia immediately opened her laptop and immersed herself in her work.

Rain began falling again night.

The patter grew louder, raindrops splattering against the window. Olivia shivered as water sprayed onto her arm. Looking at her half-finished draft, then at the time, she was shocked to discover it was already two in the morning.

Time for a break.

As she went to close the window, Olivia instinctively glanced down at the street below. When she didn't see the familiar car, she muttered, "He's not back yet?"

Why was he working so late tonight? Was there an emergency at the company? Or perhaps a business dinner? At those corporate dinners, did they bring in companions for drinks? Would he, to fit in with the crowd, also...

Olivia quickly shook her head, cutting off the increasingly absurd train of thought.

How ridiculous. When had she started caring so much about his whereabouts? Even if he was out having dinner with some hostess or hooking up with another woman, it was none of her business!

They were just business partners, after all.

Her phone suddenly vibrated on the desk.

A message!

Olivia's eyes lit up, a secret anticipation stirring within her.

As she read, she realized it was just an automated notification about her data plan running low.

Time to sleep!

Olivia's face fell, her lips pressed into a thin line. She flopped onto her bed with frustration, closed her eyes, and tried desperately to clear her mind of all distractions, forcing herself to sleep.

The next day, Olivia arrived at the office with dark circles under her eyes. By the time she reached her desk, she couldn't help but yawn again.

"Didn't sleep well last night?" a concerned voice suddenly asked beside her.

"Morning, Bobby," Olivia greeted him politely. Noticing him standing by her workstation, she asked, "Did you need something?"

"No, not at all." Bobby smiled and handed her a cup of coffee. "The coffee shop downstairs had a buy-one-get-one-free deal. I can't drink both myself, so this one's for you."

"Thank you," Olivia accepted it graciously. She was about to chat with him, but before she could say anything, he walked away.

Back at his desk, Bobby peered through the intertwined stems of the potted plant, continuing to observe Olivia's every move.

Why had she come in so early today? Fortunately, he'd used the coffee as a cover—surely she hadn't noticed what he was up to?

To his relief, Olivia showed no reaction and went about her work as usual.

Just as Bobby was congratulating himself on his flawless execution, Olivia stood up with her cup and left the office.

'She's going to the break room to slack off again,' he thought.

A flash of jealousy crossed Bobby's eyes. "Just you wait," he muttered under his breath. "When I become manager someday, all you people who got your jobs through connections will suffer!"

He swallowed his hatred and took out his phone, secretly texting someone with information.

Meanwhile, Olivia didn't go to the break room. After taking a few turns, she headed straight for the CEO's office.

Upon seeing Alexander Blake, she got straight to the point. "Mr. Blake, I suspect my computer's been tampered with these past couple of days."

She explained how she'd deliberately left markers on both her computer and desk before leaving work the previous day, and found this morning that both had been disturbed.

If yesterday's displacement could be attributed to her faulty memory, what about today's?

Learning from past experiences, she didn't want to hide her concerns this time and immediately reported the risk that her project designs might leak again.

"The company has security cameras, but I don't have access to the footage," she explained. "Would you mind speaking to security and allowing me to review it?"

After hearing her report, Alexander agreed with her approach and asked Simon Ferguson to accompany her to the security office.

"Thank you."

With Simon's assistance, Olivia quickly obtained the security footage.

As the recording began playing, Olivia fast-forwarded to yesterday's lunch break.

She had considered many possible culprits—James Kent, Isabella, unfriendly colleagues, competitors, even her family members. But when she saw Bobby on the screen, she froze.

She stared unblinkingly at the footage of Bobby copying data from her files, unable to believe her eyes. "How can it be him?"

Noticing her reaction, Simon asked, "Do you know him?"

Olivia nodded, then shook her head. "He seems so honest and kind—he's known as the nice guy in our department."

When she first joined the design department, he'd been the senior colleague who taught her many things she didn't understand. She was genuinely grateful to him. "He even gave me coffee this morning..."

The realization hit Olivia, and she immediately scrolled the footage back to thirty minutes earlier.

Sure enough, Bobby had been tampering with her computer!

The coffee had merely been a cover to hide his true intentions.

Olivia's expression was unreadable as she paused for a long moment.

Seeing this, Simon asked, "How do you want to handle this?"

"I'll deal with it myself," she replied.

Simon agreed. "All right, but let me know if you need any help. This involves project confidentiality and company reputation, after all."

"I will." After preserving the evidence, Olivia went to the break room for a cup of water before returning to her office.

Back at her workstation, she stuck to her usual routine. Even during lunch, she deliberately went to the cafeteria with her assistant, creating ample opportunity for Bobby to make his move.

At six o'clock, Olivia shut down her computer, packed her bag, and left work right on schedule.
