Chapter Title- Your Mistake… Nyxion (2)
Nyxion's POV
“She escaped through the southern exit? I thought Verek was in charge of that spot?” I asked Draven, staring at the scroll on the table.
“They had already escaped before he got there. He has already ordered his men to search the area around the route they took,” Draven answered. “Do you think the child will be okay?”
My brows pressed tightly together and I stared at him. Obviously, he doesn't know she had miscarried.
“She is no longer with child,” I calmly answered, picking up the scroll.
A shocked gasp left his lips and I completely ignored him as I was too tired to deal with another series of questions. However, my peace was interrupted by a sound from outside.
“Announce my presence to him,” Elder Ryder's voice sounded from outside.
What's the sudden commotion?
“I'll send him away.” Draven began walking to the door but I stopped him immediately. My nose sniffed the air and I sensed the killing intent radiating from behind the door.
“Step out through this one,” I ordered, and Draven faced me. His face had an obvious sign that he was ready to complain but I glared at him before he finally sighed in resignation.
“Leave,” I said again. He clicked his tongue before bowing to leave, but before that, he stopped and turned to face me. “I'll send word if she has been found.”
He left through the back exit and I was left alone in the room. My head turned to the door and I sensed the silence from behind it.
My feet carried me to the door and I stood in front of it. My eyes narrowed slightly as my hand hovered over the knob.
It was too quiet outside.
My fingers wrapped around the cold knob and I softly twisted it, the click ripping through the air. I fully grabbed the knob and pulled the door back. However, at that moment a blade stabbed down at me from the darkness outside and my body on reflex stumbled backwards.
A bang blasted through the room and I saw a hand pressing the door against the wall. Ryder fully stepped inside the room, his eyes burning with cold rage.
“Nyxion!” He thundered.
He charged towards me like a madman, slashing the sword down. I searched for a tool I could use to defend myself but there was nothing.
I watched helplessly as the sword stabbed down. My arm lifted instinctively and the blade pierced through my bone.
“Ahhh!” My jaw locked tightly to stop myself from screaming as blood spurted out from my arm. My eyes looked up at Ryder, gritting my teeth.
“Do you know what you're doing?! Are you insane!” I grabbed his arm. “You dare attack an Alpha!”
My lips trembled in rage, my eyes staring into his. I expected a change of expression, for him to back away. Instead of doing that, Ryder's eyes widened sickeningly and he added his weight onto the blade.
“Ahhhhhhh!” I groaned in pain. The blade continued piercing down until the hilt was touching my arm. I saw the tip of the sword aiming at my heart and I grunted, trying hard to push Ryder away, my face heating up.
I needed a distraction!
A clank sounded outside and we both turned our heads at the same time. Avery stood at the entrance, her hands frozen midair, her lips wide open in shock. Her eyes bulged at the scene before her and beneath her were broken plates.
Using this distraction to my advantage, I quickly released my free hand from his arm and the sword pierced down further. Quickly I wrapped my hand into a fist and punched it into his face.
His head snapped to the side as his body went flying into the wall. My body shook violently from the force and I looked down at the sword still stabbed into my arm. I grabbed it and pulled it slowly out and with one hard pull it slipped free.
Blood gushed out from the injury, splattering onto the floor. I threw the sword aside, breathing heavily.
My eyes fell on my arm and I watched as the flesh joined together and in no time the pierced arm was healed.
“N-Nyxion,” Avery finally found her voice.
“I am fine. Leave now.” I didn't look at her, my eyes still on Ryder who had already stood up, supporting himself on my office desk.
A cold smile spread on his face. “Nyxion… you made a mistake.”
“How could you send her to the dungeon to be tortured like a common animal?! She's the mother of your unborn child. You should have protected her when others-”
“I never approved of the child,” I calmly cut in and his eyes widened slightly. “You forced her to keep the child. You were there when our agreement was made. After Sirella's death with my unborn child… I never wanted another. We both agreed to it.”
“Besides, she already lost the child so the agreement has returned to how it was before,” I added.
His lips trembled violently, his jaw locked tightly.
“I will let go of what happened between us here and not let it reach the ears of the pack members. This should repay whatever favor you think I owe you,” I added, then started to make my way to the door.
I grabbed the handle and stepped aside, motioning with my hand for him to leave. “Leave.”
Ryder's head lifted to me and I swore I saw the smile on his lips but it instantly disappeared, and suddenly, I had an unsettling feeling that I had just fallen into a trap.
He walked forward and left the room without speaking much. I watched him depart and something in me stopped me from closing the door.
At that moment, a brown-skinned woman turned around and bowed to him and my brows pressed tightly together.
I felt the familiarity from her and knew it wasn't the first time I was seeing her. Not in this palace.
“Where have I seen her before?”
