Chapter 304
Chapter 304
【Elsa POV】
"Well," Leif murmurs beside me, his hand finding mine, "that certainly got their attention."
I squeeze his fingers, drawing strength from his presence. "Think they believe us now?"
"Look at their faces. They don't have much choice."
A woman in the front row finally breaks the spell, turning to her neighbor. "Did you feel that? The power?"
"Like lightning in my skull," the man replies, shaking his head slowly.
Conversations begin to ripple through the crowd—hushed, urgent discussions about what they just experienced. I catch fragments of words: "unprecedented," "ancient," "what does this mean for the pack?"
Freyja sits regally beside me, her ice-blue eyes scanning the gathering with satisfaction. They understand now, she says privately. No more questions about your worth.
"Alpha," calls out the bearded man from earlier, his voice much more respectful than before. "What happens now?"
Leif steps forward. "Now we—"
The first howl cuts through his words like a blade, echoing from somewhere beyond the tree line. My blood turns to ice as the sound registers—urgent, warning, desperate.
Then another howl answers it, closer this time.
"What the hell was that?" someone shouts from the crowd.
Around the hillside amphitheater, pack members leap to their feet, conversations dying as heads turn toward the forest. A woman near the front row grabs her child, pulling him close. The scent hits us next—death and something else, something wrong that makes my skin crawl.
"Vampires!" Karl's voice booms from the edge of the gathering. "Multiple hostiles approaching from the east!"
Chaos erupts instantly. Wolves scatter in every direction, some shifting mid-run as they race toward the tree line, others shouting orders or calling for their family members.
"Stay together!" I hear someone yell. "Don't let them separate us!"
But it's too late. The organized ceremony dissolves into panic within seconds, parents searching frantically for children, elderly pack members struggling to move quickly enough.
My heart hammers against my ribs as I watch our people flee in terror. The overwhelming urge to freeze, to hide, to run like everyone else crashes over me.
Stop. Freyja's voice cuts through my spiraling panic. You are Luna now.
Her words anchor me. I straighten my shoulders, step to the edge of the platform, and raise my voice.
"Form defensive lines around the center!" The authority in my voice surprises even me. "Warriors to the outer perimeter! Protect the young and elderly!"
A few pack members slow their panicked flight, turning to look at me. An older woman nods sharply and begins herding children toward the center.
"You heard your Luna!" Vetle shouts, appearing at the base of the platform. "Move! Defensive positions!"
As I continue directing people, something shifts inside me. The pack bond strengthens, and with it comes an unexpected presence—Grimoire. His energy flows through our soul connection, silver magic crackling around my hands.
"Good," Leif says beside me, amber eyes gleaming even as he strips off his jacket. "Keep them organized."
I grab his arm as he starts to move away. "Leif, wait. Without your wolf—"
"I'll manage." His jaw tightens. "My pack needs me."
"Alpha!" Karl appears at the platform's edge, slightly out of breath. "We've got at least twenty vampires, maybe more. They're testing our defenses."
Leif nods grimly. "Take the north perimeter. I want scouts reporting back every three minutes."
"What about you?"
"I'm heading to the front lines."
"No," I say firmly, surprising both men. "You're staying where I can see you."
Leif turns back to me, eyebrows raised. "Elsa—"
"I'm not losing you because you want to play hero without your wolf." I cross my arms. "Send Karl and the others. You coordinate from here."
For a moment, he looks like he wants to argue. Then his expression softens slightly. "Fine. But if they break through—"
"They won't."
"Elsa!" Grand Sage's voice booms across the gathering space. I turn to see him pointing upward. "Link your mind to the nearest major magical source! Now!"
"What are you talking about?" I call back.
Then I see it—a massive metallic sphere rising from behind the platform with a low humming sound. It moves steadily upward until it hovers directly above the center of our gathering, casting strange shadows across the ground.
"What the fuck is that thing?" someone yells from the crowd.
I recognize it immediately—the same vessel that carried Linnea to safety. But seeing it this close, feeling the power radiating from it, makes my teeth ache.
"Grand Sage," I shout, "what do you want me to do?"
"Connect with it! Feed it your magic!"
"How?"
Grimoire's voice whispers in my mind. Sink your consciousness inward. Find the magical threads.
Around us, the sounds of battle are growing closer. Snarls and inhuman shrieks echo from the tree line. Through the pack bond, I feel our warriors engaging the enemy—flashes of pain, bursts of adrenaline, the grim determination of wolves fighting for their lives.
But I also feel the terror of the non-combatants around me. A mother clutching twin toddlers. An elderly man who can barely walk. A teenager trying to comfort his younger sister.
The emotional storm hits me like a physical blow. Fear, anger, desperation—all of it crashes into my mind through the pack bond, making it impossible to focus.
Too much, I gasp, pressing my hands to my temples.
I got you, Freyja says, and suddenly the mental noise cuts off completely.
The relief is immediate. I close my eyes and sink inward, searching for the magical threads Grimoire described. At first, there's nothing. Then gradually, I begin to sense them—silver lines of energy connecting everything around me.
I reach out with my consciousness and touch one of the threads leading upward. The connection sparks to life, and suddenly I can feel the sphere's systems—dozens of interfaces, each one hungry for power.
"Feed them," Grand Sage calls. "Fill every interface you can find!"
I pour my magic into the waiting channels. The sphere drinks it greedily, its systems awakening one by one, but the demand seems endless. It's like trying to fill an ocean with a bucket.
"Elsa," Leif says urgently beside me, "you're glowing."
I look down at my hands—silver light pulses beneath my skin, growing brighter with each passing second. The air around us begins to vibrate with energy.
"Holy shit," someone whispers from the crowd. "Look at that thing."
The sphere is pulsing now, brighter and brighter, like a second sun suspended above us.
My legs start to shake. Each pulse of magic I send takes more effort than the last, and my vision blurs around the edges.
"Release it!" Grand Sage shouts. "Now, Elsa! Let it all go!"
"I don't know how!" I call back desperately.
The magical connection feels locked in place, the energy building to dangerous levels with nowhere to go. My legs give out completely, and I collapse onto the platform.
"Elsa!" Leif drops to his knees beside me.
"Can't... stop it," I gasp.
Then something inside the connection snaps.
The sphere convulses once, twice, then erupts in a burst of silver-white light that turns night into day. Streams of pure energy lance outward in every direction, racing toward the forest where our people are fighting.
"Get down!" someone screams.
Pack members throw themselves to the ground as the beams pass overhead, seeking out targets with impossible precision.
I lie on the platform, utterly drained but watching in awe as the light show continues. Each beam seems to know exactly where to go.
The vampire shrieks cut off abruptly.
A moment later, Karl's voice echoes from the tree line: "All clear! Targets neutralized!"
Cheers erupt from our people as they realize we're safe.
Grand Sage appears beside me, staring up at the sphere as its light begins to fade. "Incredible," he murmurs. "I've never seen magical power like this."
Leif helps me sit up, his hands gentle but his expression concerned. "Are you okay?"
I nod weakly. "Just tired."
Around us, pack members are emerging from their defensive positions, talking excitedly among themselves.
"Did you see those beams?"
"They knew exactly where the vampires were!"
"Our Luna did that!"
The last comment makes me smile despite my exhaustion. For the first time since this whole nightmare began, I actually feel like their Luna.
"Come on," Leif says softly, helping me to my feet. "Let's get you inside."
