Chapter 61 61
Draven's POV
I barged into Hazel's room, my heart pounding in my chest as I witnessed the scene before me. Hazel lay unconscious on the bed, her face pale and her breathing shallow.
While the physician stood beside her, her brows furrowed with concern as she was examining Hazel intently. I quickly rushed to Hazel's side in panic and fright.
"What's happening? Is she alright?" I demanded, my voice trembling with fear.
The physician turned to face me, her expression grave. "Alpha Draven, I'm afraid the pup is demanding way too much energy than Miss Hazel's body can generate.”
“It's like nothing we've ever seen before. The pup is strong, far too strong, and seems to wield unimaginable powers." My mind swirled with a mix of confusion and fear.
"But she's been taking the vitamins you prescribed for her. They were supposed to boost her energy and support the pup's growth," I protested, my voice laced with anger and desperation.
The physician's gaze softened; she seemed quite understanding, but I was too upset to see that. "I know you've done everything you could, Alpha Draven, and I am doing my best also.”
“But the truth is, the medications and feeding alone are not enough. This pup is different. It's like a super pup, taking more energy to survive than we ever anticipated."
I felt a surge of anger and frustration rise within me. "So, what do we do? How do we save them both?" I asked, my voice slowly getting more and more stern.
The physician sighed and adjusted her glasses. "Right now, there's a battle going on inside Miss Hazel between her body and the pup. Both sides are struggling for survival.”
“If we don't find a way to balance the energy consumption, it could jeopardise both their lives." My heart sank at the realisation of the perilous situation Hazel is in.
I took Hazel's limp hand in mine, my fingers trembling against her cold skin. "There has to be something that could be done somehow. Some way to help them," I pleaded, my voice choked with emotion.
The physician nodded, sympathy etched across his face. "We're doing everything we can, Alpha Draven”
“I've already begun trying my best to widen my research and find alternative treatments, consulting with human and werewolf specialists, but it's a complex situation. We're dealing with something unprecedented here."
I clenched my fists, frustration and helplessness engulfing me. "So what now? Do you expect me to just give up on everything and slowly watch her turn into a shell of who she once was, all in the name of a pregnancy?”
“I can't just stand by and watch them suffer. There must be something, some way that you could save them." The physician's eyes softened, and she placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"I understand your anguish, Alpha Draven. I'm doing my best. I won't give up. I'll keep fighting for both Miss Hazel and the pup." I looked at her, trying my best to believe her words and accept them as I calmed myself down.
"Thank you; find a way. I can't lose them. I really can't." The physician's voice was filled with determination as she spoke her next words. "I promise you, Alpha Draven, we won't stop until we find a solution.”
“We'll exhaust every possible avenue. You just have to stay strong mentally for Hazel and the baby. Hazel needs more support right now."
I returned my gaze and attention to Hazel's peaceful yet fragile form. "But... Alpha Draven, there is one last-minute resort that we could try if things get too bad." The physician suddenly said.
"There is... what is it? I'm willing to try any means." I said it eagerly. The physician sighed, her eyes filled with empathy.
"Draven, the truth is, if the pup continues consuming more and more energy from Hazel at this pace, she might not make it until the baby's delivery date. So if things get tough, We'd have to consider all options."
Dread settled deep within me as I listened to her words. I knew what she was implying, but the mere thought made my heart ache. How could I even consider such a thing?
Hazel wouldn't want it, and deep down, I knew it went against everything I believed in. "But... but that means... you're suggesting... getting rid of the pup?" I stammered, my voice barely a whisper.
The physician met my gaze, her expression filled with compassion. "I know it's an incredibly difficult decision, Alpha Draven. I can see how much you care about Hazel and the baby.”
“But her life is at stake, and we have to think about what's best for her. The pup's power is overwhelming her, and we need to find a way to resolve the balance."
Tears welled up in my eyes as conflicting emotions tore through my soul. The thought of losing Hazel was unbearable, but terminating the life growing within her felt like a betrayal.
I had to protect her, even if it meant making the most agonising decision of my life. "I can't believe I'm saying this, but if it's necessary to save her life..." My voice trailed off, choked with emotion.
"I'll approve the abortion." The physician reached out and placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder.
"Alpha Draven, I understand the pain and turmoil you're experiencing. But let's not rush into anything just yet. We need to give Hazel the chance to be part of this discussion and understand the gravity of the situation."
I nodded, taking in the tears about to fall on my cheeks. "You're right. She deserves to have a say in this."
The physician suddenly began preparing a syringe, and with a gentle touch, she injected Hazel with medication, and I watched her make a pained expression as she shifted in sleep.
"This will make her awaken faster than usual, probably within an hour." She assured me and remained on standby, arranging her things in the corner made for her with the aid of a few maids.
As I watched Hazel lie there, her chest rising and falling with each breath, I couldn't help but feel a will to protect her.
These past few weeks had brought us closer than ever, and I realised now that the mere thought of being apart from her was unbearable.
An hour passed, and Hazel's eyelids fluttered open. Confusion flashed across her face as she looked around the room, her gaze finally landing on mine.
“Draven? What's happening? Why am I...? Did I...?" Her voice trailed off as she struggled to make sense of her surroundings. I took a deep breath, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Hazel, there's something we need to talk about. It's about the pup, about your health." As I began to explain the situation—about the battle raging within her own body and the physician's suggestion.
I watched as different emotions played within her face. It started off as confusion and began changing into undeniable anger. "I... I can't believe you're suggesting this." Hazel's voice trembled with emotion as she interrupted me, her eyes filled with tears.
"Draven, this is my pup. I won't let anyone harm it." Desperation welled up within me as I reached out to touch her hand. "Hazel, I understand how much you want to keep the pup. I do too, but your life is at risk.”
“We have to consider all options. We're in this together, and I'll support you no matter what. Everything will be okay." She pulled her hand away from me, her face contorting with anger.
"No, Draven! You don't understand. This pup is a part of me; it's mine. I won't let them take it away. I won't let anyone hurt my pup."
Tears streamed down her face, and her voice trembled with desperation. "I swear to you, if anyone dares to harm my pup, I'll... I'll slit my own throat without thinking twice. I swear, I will do it."
My heart shattered as I witnessed her in pain. I knew that as an expecting mother, she would grow a strong connection to her pup and anticipate his arrival, but I never expected that she would grow such a deep connection in such a short amount of time.
But I couldn't bear the thought of losing her, either. I had to find a way to calm her down and make her understand that our decision would be for the sake of her well-being.
"Hazel, please, listen to me," I pleaded, my voice filled with a mixture of sadness and concern. "I don't want anything to happen to our baby either. But we have to think about your safety.”
“Right now, you're overwhelmed by pregnancy hormones. It's messing with your mindset. We need to find a way to calm you down and protect you and the pup."
She sobbed uncontrollably, her body trembling with emotional turmoil. "I... I can't bear the thought of losing it, Draven. It's my pup, our future. Please, please understand."
