Chapter 58 58

Chapter 58 58
Third Person POV
Noah felt an itching behind his neck, not because he had an itch to scratch; it just felt as though he had an instinctive feeling that someone had called him.
He looked behind him and felt nothing. He turned his attention back to the gate in front of them. "Are you ready?" Alice asked him; she seemed too excited and happy to be on a covert mission for the first time.
Noah couldn't help but watch her in amusement; such primal happiness was something not easily seen in his life, more to those he was drawn towards. "I was born ready, but you're not so ready," he said in a teasing tone.
"Yes, I am; why would you say that?" she said back to him in protest. Noah pointed at her hair.
"You're the only one with bright red hair; it'll be fairly easy to notice you, even for a kid," he said, then handed her a hairpin.
"What's that for? She asked cautiously as she took it from him. "You'll see, just try it out," he said to her. Alice placed the hairpin on her hair hesitantly and it fitted into her hair, slowly right before her.
Her smooth, luscious strands of hair slowly darkened before her eyes, turning completely black. "It's an enchantment that changes the appearance of the user, but it mostly depends on the situation.”
“This is just for the hair," he said calmly. She looked at her hair and then at his face.
"Oohh, I didn't mean to say your hair isn't nice, just that the colour would attract a lot of attention," Noah said, trying to correct his mistake based on his assumptions.
"Thank you very much, Noah; I'll cherish this," she turned to look at him. Walter looked back towards the gate, feeling uncomfortable about the intense emotional moment.
As Noah searched into the gate of the estate, he saw a black van drive into the gate. He turned back to Alice. "There, the back seats are empty," he said to her.
She got the memo and held his hand; before he could blink, he was already seated in the back seat of the van, but the driver himself wasn't aware that they were inside.
"Now what do we do?" Alice whispered under her breath. "We do nothing until the car stops itself, then we follow them to wherever they go; slowly but steadily we'll understand the total layout of this estate," he replied as quietly as possible.
"But how are we going to follow them down?" She asked. “Remember I can only teleport to places I've been to before." She finished. Walter nodded, assuring as though he had a plan already.
"That's where I come in," he said, smiling. "Have you ever been afraid of the dark?" He asked her.
"When I was a child, yes, but now I'm not so sure," she replied, and those were just the times when there was a thunderstorm and she'd have no one to hold onto on certain nights.
"Well, let's hope your childhood fears don't come back to life." Noah whispered; she didn't know what that meant, but that didn't make it any easier to accept.
After a few moments of silence, they heard voices outside the van, mostly just of men greeting each other the way men would. Noah used his shadow sense to see exactly where they were.
It was the only way he could use to teach their movements while also learning the layout of the area. Sometime before Noah had left, he had a discussion with Hazel, asking her what she remembered about the estate she had lived in.
She had said she was allowed to walk around and anywhere in the estate, so long as she didn't cross the second gate. She had told him she just thought it was part of the company and wasn't allowed inside, but she had also said that on certain days, mostly in the evenings.
A few vans would pass through the restricted area and drive in. She had always wondered what they were, but she was never allowed to find out, and even when she asked, she got insulted and shunned, so she never brought it up again.
Noah saw through his shadows that they had just passed through the second gate. He felt grateful that he had chosen the right van. He opened his eyes gradually and took a deep breath.
"What happened? What did you see?" Alice asked beside him. "We just passed the other gate," he said thoughtfully for a moment. "Alice?" He called.
"Hmmm?"
"Check the things around you and their contents," Walter said suspiciously. "It's too dark for me to see," she replied. "Just feel them, then tell me what you feel," he finished.
Noah felt a bag by his side; it looked rolled up and tightly secured, but Walter couldn't care less; it's not like they could catch him even if they tried; he just did want to get caught.
"I found an apple," Alice whispered a bit too loudly. "Ssshhhh," Walter hushed her. He looked over to the driver, who seemed to not have heard a single thing; he kept driving quietly.
The most bothersome thing was that Noah couldn't tell if the driver was a wolf or a human; he felt nothing from the driver. He felt at the other bags; he felt fruits, grains, provisions, and bottles of water all stacked up in the van.
"What are all these foods for?" Alice whispered to Walter. "Not what, but who!" Noah said he was sure these foods didn't belong to the Labrinth family; they were meant for some other people, and he was going to find out.
The van suddenly stopped as the driver came down from the van. Noah immediately held Alice's hand and dragged her into the shadows, completely turning her intangible.
He watched from a corridor of the van, where the shadows were deeper and ever present. The back door of the van opened, and before him he saw four men holding guns towards the van, pointing at them although they couldn't see them.
"Shit," Noah cursed from the shadows.
