Chapter 109 109
Chapter 109 109
Maddy's POV
As they continued their discussion, my attention shifted between them. I couldn't help but feel a mix of admiration and worry for both of them. Draven's role as Alpha meant he had to make tough decisions for the pack, even if it meant confronting Jason, and sometimes that burden made him distant and cold.
Jason, had the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, and yet he was always so carefree and extroverted. Until now. Finally, their conversation drew to a close, and Jason stood up.
He shot me a fleeting glance before turning to Draven. "I'll handle the preparations for the pack meeting," he said, his voice a touch softer. Draven nodded, a flicker of gratitude passing across his face.
"Thank you, Jason. Do it quickly." Jason gave a curt nod before leaving the room, his steps purposeful and determined. As the door closed behind him, the tension in the air slowly subsided, but the one in my heart remained stagnant.
After breakfast, I decided to take a stroll in the garden to clear my head. The fresh air and blooming flowers always helped me feel better; it's one of the reasons why I loved nature so much.
As I walked along the winding path, I spotted Jason in the distance. He was working out; he must do that daily. I watched his muscles as they kept flexing with each movement.
I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should approach him. But something tugged at my heart, urging me to go to him. I clutched the necklace that was hooked to my neck, the one I had found in my room.
It was time to give it back to him, but I wondered if this would be the right time to give it to him. We still have this tension between us.
As I got closer, I noticed an intensity in Jason's eyes—a mixture of pain and anger. My heart sank, and I wondered if it was because of me. I understood the anger, but not the pain. Why was he in pain? I hoped it was just my imagination.
Taking a deep breath, I mustered up the courage to approach him. But just as I was about to take a step forward, a maid hurriedly approached Jason with a towel in her hands. They seemed to be talking, but I couldn't hear their conversation.
The maid's face turned bright red, and she giggled nervously. I couldn't help but wonder what she was saying to him. Was it something important?
But then, to my surprise and disbelief, Jason's expression changed. It became cold and unreadable. In an instant, he grabbed the maid by the waist, pulled her close, and kissed her passionately. My eyes widened in shock, unable to comprehend what I was witnessing.
The maid seemed taken aback, her eyes wide with surprise. I could see the confusion and uncertainty in her gaze. But Jason's kiss, though passionate, lacked warmth. It felt distant and empty, as if he were merely going through the motions.
My heart felt heavy as I watched them. Was this the reason for Jason's anger and pain? Was he using the maid to mask his true feelings? And what about me? Did he feel anything for me at all?
Tears welled up in my eyes as I clutched the necklace tighter. I had hoped to give it back to him, but now it felt meaningless. How could I give it to him after witnessing what I just had?
I turned on my heels, my feet carrying me away from the painful scene. I couldn't bear to watch any longer. The windy garden suddenly felt suffocating, and I needed to find solace elsewhere.
As I walked away, my mind raced with questions and confusion. I had thought I understood Jason; I thought I knew him, but now I realise there are depths to him I haven't yet discovered. And those depths held pain and selfishness that left me feeling lost and hurt.
I wiped away my tears, determined not to let this encounter break me. I entered my room, my heart heavy with hurt and confusion. Seating myself on the edge of my bed, tears streamed down my cheeks as I tried to make sense of what I had just witnessed.
The image of Jason kissing the maid played over and over in my mind, each repetition deepening the pain in my chest.
A sudden knock at the door startled me, and I hastily wiped away my tears. "Go away!" I called out, my voice laced with sadness and frustration as the tears flowed nonstop. I didn't want to see anyone right now, especially not Jason.
But without waiting for my permission, the door swung open, and Jason strode into the room. His gaze was cold, and his expression was emotionless. I shrank back, feeling a mix of anger and vulnerability.
"Why did you leave the garden like that?" he asked, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "You should've stayed and enjoyed the show."
I couldn't believe my ears. He knew I was there in the garden all along. How could he be so callous? My sadness quickly turned into anger, fueling my actions.
I stepped forward, my voice trembling with rage. I channelled that rage into giving him a slap, hard across his face. "How could you do that?" I demanded, my voice shaking. "How could you kiss a maid like that? You don't even like her?"
Jason didn't flinch, his cold gaze never leaving mine. "Why does it matter to you?" he retorted, his words cutting through me like a knife. "Who do you think you are? My mate? My girlfriend? I don't have any of that, so I'm free to kiss and fuck around with whomever I want."
His words hit me like a punch to the gut. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Fresh tears welled up in my eyes as I took a step back, the pain in my chest turning into a searing ache. "Why?" I choked out, my voice barely above a whisper. "Why did you have to do that?"
Jason leaned in, his face inches from mine. His voice was cold and devoid of emotion. "Isn't that what you did with Zac?" he sneered.
"You were with him. You know what you did with him, don't you? And now you're in "love" with him. So I'm just trying to find love too. Why? Why is that so bad now? I mean, she said she liked me, so I'm just doing her a favour."
His words twisted the knife deeper into my heart. The drama between us escalated, with hurt and confusion swirling around us like a storm. I couldn't understand why he was doing this or why he was being so cruel.
Not just to me but also to the maid; from what he said, he plans to continue leading her on. But that's so unfair to anyone.
With a surge of anger, I mustered up all my strength and slapped him hard across the face again. But he didn't even flinch. His expression remained unchanged, as if my actions meant nothing to him.
"Why?!" I shouted, my voice shaking with a mix of pain and anger. "Why are you like this? Why are you hurting me?"
A bitter smile formed on his lips. "Hurt you?" he scoffed. "How am I hurting you? Do you even know what hurting actually means? You don't know what real pain is, Maddy.
You don't know what it's like to be in so much pain that you feel like destroying the smile on the face of the one who made you feel that pain.
His words cut through me like a blade, and I stumbled back, my heart shattering into a million pieces. I had thought I knew Jason and understood him, but now I realise how wrong I had been. The person standing before me was a stranger, someone I couldn't recognise.
The room filled with a suffocating silence as we stood there, our emotions swirling in the air. The tension was palpable as I finally regained composure.
"Get out of my room. And never show me your face ever again." I ordered, my hate for him slowly booming within me.
"No Maddy, Get out of the Diamond Pack and never show your face here again. This pack has no place for backstabbers. We locked gazes, and I knew he was taken aback by the anger and pain in my eyes because I saw him waver for a few seconds.
I slowly took out his necklace, threw it at him, and then went into my bathroom. Without undressing, I turned on the shower, and the water blasted forth, drenching me.
I sat in there for, God knows, how long. I had begun to feel really cold, but my heart was too numb and my head was too lost to break out and move.
I closed my eyes and let myself continue getting drenched without a care. "Maddy."
