Chapter 67 CHAPTER 67
Chapter 67 CHAPTER 67
I stood at the edge of the bed waiting for Alex to come out of the shower , clean if the blood that was dripping off his clothes when he walked in.
My obsessive parents finally left, it was just me and him in the house now.
“Baby, you didn’t have to wait for me. I’m gonna come to bed, you need to rest.” He said appearing from the doorway of the bathroom with a towel on his waist.
“I wanted to hug you or get a kiss before bed.” I said slowly walking towards him, he smiled softly opening his arms for me. “We could have done that with you in bed.”
“As soon as my head hits the pillow, i’m dozing off.” I said engulfed in his arms, I softly looked up to him.
“Thank you so much for saving me today, you are my hero.” I said giggling softly while he held me delicately.
“I’m sorry I was not there when they took you.” He said, I shook my head. “It was not your fault, how could you have known?”
Our lips met softly at first, a slow press that carried the weight of every separation and every hard-won return.
Alex’s hand rose to cup my jaw as the kiss deepened, warm and sure, tasting of relief and the quiet promise that nothing would pull us apart again.
When we finally drew back, foreheads resting together, shared breath lingered between us like a vow neither of us needed to speak aloud.
“I met your sister today, and your twin brother.” I said walking to let him finish his shower routine. He visible stiffened and sighed in return.
“Yeah, i’m sorry for not telling you sooner about him. Good news, the bond Tasha was feeling was because of the twin bond.” He said lotioning his body and got dressed in his boxer shorts.
“Really? thats great news indeed.” I said getting in bed softly not to tickle any of the stitched wounds.
“Yeah, you should’ve seen her face when she saw Jack.” I laughed softly, his name is Jack. Usually twins have similar names, but who am I to judge.
“So why you never told me about him?” I softly asked him, he sat on the bed tucking me in. “It’s a long story, honey.”
“Really? What about your sister? You also didn’t tell me she’s twice the size of the clothes you’ve been giving me to wear, or the pink dress buried deep in your closet.” He looked at me wide eyed, can’t even lie to save his life.
“What about that, huh? I think that should be a short story worthy to tell.”
“It’s not what you think, Ayla.” He
said, “That’s always the case, isn’t? ,” I said quietly.
He exhaled, a long and suspicious exhale that had me doubting him for a minute.
For a long pause only the distant hum of the alarm he had installed filled the space. Then he spoke his voice low.
“The reason why there are random clothes and why I never told you I have a twin brother is because a few years back he betrayed my trust.” I said up listening intently.
“We’ve always been tight me and him growing like the usual when it comes to twins. We’ve done everything together, had our first shift together.”
“I met my mate before he met his, we were at the verge of giving up on love for both of us when I met her.” I nodded for him to carry on.
“Long story short, they must’ve been sleeping together while I was too busy saving lives at the hospital. She and my brother they eloped. Left everything behind clothes.” His fingers curled once against the railing.
“I was hurt, feeling betrayed and fell into depression. Eventually I decided I had to be okay with the choices she made. Had to let it go or it would keep eating what was left.” He paused. “Apparently she died later, by silver.”
The words hung between us. I inched closer, arms sliding around his waist, cheek pressing against the warm of his chest. “I’m sorry that you had to go through that.”
His heartbeat thudded steady under my ear. The scent of his clean soap from the shower, filled my lungs.
A small breath of laughter escaped me. “Good riddance, though. We wouldn’t have met otherwise.”
His chest moved once against mine, a short huff that might have been agreement.
“This is why I went crazy when I heard that bastard took you, I wouldn’t have handled losing you too.”He said blue sad orbs staring into me as if I am their last hope.
“Honey, you wouldn’t get rid of me even if you wanted.” I said and pecked his lips. “I love you.” I said softly. “I love you, I loved you before you were born.” he said laughing.
His arms came around me, solid and warm. The silk of my night gown shifted as he drew me closer. “So is Jake allowed in our home?”
“Yes, I should say he did me a favour by taking her. He is blood after-all.”I nodded, he got into bed and swiftly placed me on his chest.
“But I think he will have to work on his manners now, this is my house too.” I said my mind recalling the events from earlier.
“Of course, I will speak to him. He was actually here for the gifting ceremony that never happened.”
“Yeah, we can definitely reschedule that now the problem has been terminated.” I said softly waiting for a confirmation from him that he really killed Branden.
”We can’t do anything yet until we get the real danger, the thing that waits until you are alone to attack.” My heart started beating against my chest, for a moment I had forgotten of the real scary thing.
”The hollow man?” The man who attacked me in my own bedroom. “But don’t worry I will find him and kill him like I did with the other one. In the meanwhile we can hold off any celebration.”
”Not even the wedding?” I asked, I really want to get married with him so we can be official. “We can talk about it, not now. Go to sleep.” He said as he softly kissed my forehead.
We stayed like that until I fell asleep but during the whole night I could feel Alex awake and pacing.
