Chapter 23 Chapter 23

Chapter 23 Chapter 23

When we got to Vanguard Global, I looked through the window. Jesus, he really built this. The building was all steel and glass, about thirty stories high. I took a deep breath. Lord knows what the employees and the executives would put me through and what rumors would spread.
Wesley opened the door for me, and I got out; the second I did, it was as if time froze; everyone just stopped and stared. I walked up the stairs with Wesley and Jules behind me, along with the other security details. When we walked in, Arlo was waiting.

“Welcome to Vanguard Global Madam”.
“Good Moring Arlo. Let's get to it”.

On the way up, Arlo was telling me of all the meetings lined up. When we got out, we got out in the 30th floor, there were only three offices up here and one large conference room, he led me over to Nikolai's office.

When I walked into the office, the heavy door slid shut behind me with a soft hiss. the space felt  big, more empty, and way more lethal. I didn't have my 160-pound shadow to lean on today. It was just me.

I stood there for a second, looking out through the wall-to-wall glass. From up here, the city looked like a circuit board, and I was the one about to flick the switch. There wasn't a speck of marble in the whole place. It seemed Nikolai didn't do that flashy crap. This was all about the future. Everything was sharp edges, smoked glass, and shadows.

I walked over to the main desk; it was a giant, heavy sheet of dark glass that looked like it was hovering mid-air. I ran my hand over the cool surface, feeling the faint hum of the tech buried underneath. There was no clutter, no pens, nothing but a slim laptop sitting right in the middle.
I pulled out the chair, a matte-black leather, and sat down. Looking out at the horizon, I felt the shift. I wasn't just some girl Nikolai had picked up. I was Natalie De Luca, and for the next few days this glass-and-steel kingdom was mine to run.

“Arlo, bring all the documents for me. Also, I need Brax’s number.”
“Yes Madam ,Barx should be here in an hour”. Arlo replied.
“Thank you.”

After he left I was going through a project proposal. I stopped at the third page and read it over. Who the fuck approved this shit? The office door pushed open, and a woman walked in; she was wearing a suit, or more of a blazer and short skirt, bright red and short enough to raise eyebrows. When she saw me she stopped short, she looked at Wesley and Jules then back at me.
“Who are you?” She asked.

“The question is, who are you, and who gave you the authority or right to walk in here without knocking?”
She smirked at me. “Me? I’m Mr. Ferro’s personal assistant,” she said with that same smirk.
I pulled my phone out of my bag and called him. He answered pn the first ring. I put the phone on speaker.

“What is it, kitten?” He asked softly, and I looked at the phone. I saw Wesley's eyes go wide. Did this man lose his mind after getting shot?. I took a deep breath.
“Your personal assistant just walked in; everyone can hear you.”
“Sophia, leave and don't return until I do.” He said.

“Mr. Ferro, that is not reasonable” she said hurrying over and for some reason it pissed me off. I took a deep breath.
“Nikolai, I don't want to see any of your fucking women as long as I'm here,” I said, ending the call. “Get her the hell out of here Jules”  I looked at her. She hurriedly grabbed her phone and was calling someone, but they didn't answer.  Jules led her out by the arm.
“Wesley, Jules, can I have a minute alone?” I asked quietly.

“Of course, Madam, we will remain outside.” Wesley said after they left, I took a deep breath. I ran my hands through my hair, what the hell was wrong with me, why was I reacting this way when it came to him and women. I don't care about him ,I know I don't..I was just grateful, thankful that he gave me these opportunities, so why did it feel like I couldn't breathe when other women were around him?

I put the thoughts aside and continued reviewing the project proposals. At ten we had a meeting with the executives, and that went as well as having a conversation with Nikolai. Shortly before lunch a guy walked in. He looked to be about my age.
“Ms. Well, I should say, Madam. Let me introduce myself. I am Brax.” He said, taking a seat.
‘Hello, Brax. I need some information.

He put five folders on the desk, and I looked at it.  “The first one are the Moretti’s who you should stay clear from and all their dealings. The other three and some of the Ferro family members, and the last one is the one on your parents. He said, and I nodded.

Nikolai

I didn't expect to get ambushed yesterday, nor did I expect me getting hurt would soften her up to the point where she would actually come and feed me. Maybe I needed to get hurt more often.
When. I told her she would handle the business I had no doubt she could do it, that was why i sent her to learn. I already saw those project proposals and knew they were a fucking trap, and she would see it too. This morning before she left, she called me Mr. Ferro, which meant she was still pissed about the kiss last night, but I didn't mind.

She had no idea she was already my wife and I was already in love with her.  I fell for her the second I saw her, and the fact that she was the person I had been looking for all my life just made it better.

Those five years that I kept her away from me was torture for me, I sat and watched her every single day but never reached out , if I did she would have gotten hurt. the Moretti's we're still looking for a way to take me out and there was nothing they could do beside resorting to ambushing me.
When she called me a few hours ago about Sophia and from her outburst  I knew she was Jealous which made me smile. Sophia had no meaning to me; she was just a pawn that I needed.

I was leaning back against the headboard ,my laptop in front of me as I looked at her. She was handling it the way I knew she would. I didn't send her away for nothing ,she had a head for business after all her father was a businessman.
I watched her all day, when she left a six I closed the laptop and sild it under the bed.
