Chapter 90
Autumn
He would see the eye flashes of my wolf. Shit. She whined, unsure what to do or really say to me, and I almost did with her. “I saw that. I know that wasn’t a link, it was too short, but you better put a mussel on your dog Omega.” He snarled.
Winter whined a second time, but I couldn’t do anything about it. He had an iron grip on me and nothing I did was working….and now he had a gun. I had no choice but to follow him.
I was escorted against my will, walking into the lobby. No one questioned seeing the burly Warrior with the Luna without Oliver. They probably thought I was just going home… I got bows of respect, and nothing more. I was almost at the exit, but Winston walked through the door.
There were three muffled bangs, and the Warrior fell to the floor. I screamed backing away from the body, only to bump into someone.
“Hi Luna.” Winston smiled wide, waving with the silenced gun in his other hand. “I’ll take you back upstairs.” He beamed happily, while Warriors surrounded me, trying to find out if anyone else was involved. Everyone else looked confused but didn’t panic, as they all trusted the judgment of the Warriors.
“Holy crap.” I mumbled in shock…. He walked to me and removed my hand from the dead man, and held it instead.
“Oh right, you’re human.” Winston cleared his throat, gently pushing me to walk forward. “You’re a council member’s wife now; that’s why we’re here. He likely defected to Brutus or Alpha Jang, maybe the 14th seat. Who knows Alpha Grisham is a dick that plays into the higher odd’s hands.” He mumbled. “Echo will likely have a report ready.”
I got back on the elevator frazzled but glad that someone was looking out for me. Echo was waiting for us in front of Beta’s office with a cup of black coffee and a blanket. “There there Luna, we got you. There’s 5 of us sworn to watch you in the shadows.” He said handing them to me.
“It all happened so fast…. He said he was from EbonyMoon” I mumbled, and they both laughed.
“I can smell it from here something’s off about that. But my question is why? Ebony’s in Jerzy….” Echo mumbled.
“Now the question is will Alpha Oliver take the bait and join that power struggle or not? This stinks of Third Seat.” Said Winston. I sat in Beta’s office, but he wasn’t in there. I could hear his running though.
“Who, what, when and where?” Demanded Chase, his eyes were his wolf’s. Echo rolled his eyes.
“Alpha Damion’s knock off assassin, tried to kill Luna but Winston stopped him, just now, uh when Alpha ordered Tim to send a Warrior for Luna and to drag her out his office to make it look dramatic, the knock off assassin came up instead.” Said Echo.
Another odd eye colored warrior appeared out of nowhere. “The other two bargain basement Shadows are in the Red Room. You’re welcome.”
“Dramatic much.” Scoffed Winston with a small smile.
“You’re only jealous because I’m the pretty one.” He mocked.
“Will all of you stop? This is serious.” Growled Chase. “That Warrior was here a While. How didn’t you all know?”
“We knew.” Said Echo casually. “And for the record I’m the pretty one. You’re only a 9 and a half asshole.”
“If we intercept something in progress no one usually has a problem… but when we do our work the way we want, it often causes issue.” Said Winston. “But let me pay them a visit as a counter measure with authorization.”
“Save it for Alpha, he’ll be here in a second.” He mumbled, and we all heard a snarl along with screams. It sounded like his growling scared the witches that he sent.
“… I know it sounds crazy but I kind of want some space.” I said quietly, but Chase disagreed.
“It isn’t the way of wolves Autumn…. His instinct is to come to you, hold you, and protect you until you feel safe again.” There was a soft growl with fast footsteps, along with my wolf perking up.
He ran into Beta’s office, frantic and worried. “This is my fault.” He kneeled down and hugged me, but I didn’t know how to feel.
“Oliver, you Gave me to that wolf… I just can’t accept a sorry.” I mumbled.
“I tried to-” I put down my cocoa.
“I don’t want to hear it. I’m sorry I slapped you… and I know if I tell you to back off a little, you’ll feel worse. I don’t know what to do.” I said quietly.
“… Do you not want me?” he asked as almost a whisper.
“Yes, I want you. I love you; you know that. It’s just that right now, it’s like being reminded all over again that I Do Not fit in this world… I’m not strong enough… or cold hearted enough…” I was enveloped in his scent and his kiss. It was a soft one, and tingles danced lightly with his touch… but it didn’t change the way I felt.
“No, you’re not; but don’t try to compare yourself to anyone else… Because of you there is peace, and because of you, I came up with a solution for those children… I’m sorry I acted so cold… I betrayed you.” He mumbled standing up. “I accept your punishment if that’s what will fix this.” He stood as a warrior, but I didn’t understand.
“Wow… what are you gonna do to him Luna?’ Asked Echo… he had popcorn from the cafeteria as if he knew something like this would happen.
“Do?” I asked.
Oliver ripped the suit and shirt off his back with a few swift tugs. I saw all the old scars across his chest, along with the protection tattoo over his heart. “I have offended the Goddess and my mate. I accept your punishment.” He got on his knees at my feet. “Do what you have to do if it means I’ll wake up with you next to me.”
“I don’t want to Do anything! Oliver that’s too much!” I hugged his neck, hearing him growl disagreeing with me.
“No, it isn’t. It is Law. I betrayed you. I was so confident. I willingly gave you to the enemy. Ignorant or not it was MY fault. I have caused you fear… and put you in danger.” He said quietly. He felt… broken. I felt bad for him, but I didn’t understand his logic…. Why would I counter violence with more violence?
“Oliver… I think it’s this time that I don’t understand you. I was just reminded of what I am in this world… I’ll be fine. I don’t think I could live with myself if I purposefully hurt you.” I mumbled.
“…. I don’t think I’ll ever understand you either.” Said Oliver. He wouldn’t let me go, he buried his face in my stomach, and breathed in deep. “I tried doing all this to keep you from hurting… only to hurt you myself. Lady why is this so fucking hard?”
“Because nothing worth having is easy Oliver…. I just don’t want to experience ‘Alpha Oliver’ anytime soon.” I patted his hair. He let me go, shifting into a wolf bigger than a bear, and pressed his face into my chest. I wasn’t surprised… if anything I wondered why he wasn’t already. He had his tail down, but it wagged gently as I petted him between the ears.
“I don’t think he’s going to shift anytime soon Luna…” Said Chase. He looked worried, but he didn’t say why.
I am not. Oliver is an idiot. Linked East.
“East what about going home?” I asked. He looked like he linked someone.
That is not for another few hours… let me have this please. I trusted that bum. He growled, shoving his face into me again, but careful to keep his mouth closed when he did it.
“You both tried for those kids and the elderly… thank you.” I said giving him a hug around his neck.
They will be at Granny’s Best. He linked, and I didn’t realize that they must have had relation with Mr. Smith this entire time.
“I’m glad I only realized that now… If Reggie or Saiyatok would have known about Mr. Smith, they would have killed him too….” I said quietly.
Or the Vampire Lord when they hurt his mate. There is no vengeance enough. There is not enough blood in the bodies to spill on the ground when someone hurts your mate. He snarled a rumble that shook the walls. Who did this to Autumn? Who tried to take my mate? He demanded, turning his anger to the other wolves in the room. His tail was high in the air facing them like a black flag, though the only one who spoke up was his Beta.
“We think EbonyMoon was commanded by the Third Seat, but we don’t have proof.” Said Chase. Warriors came in with the body, laying it on the floor. That must have been what he’d linked.
I do not care about proof. You know this. If they want war, they will have it. He snarled.
East walked to the dead wolf, biting the corpse on the side, melting and rotting it. The stench filled Chase’s office as the blackened blood seeped on the floor. I outwardly gagged, but thankfully I held my composure.
Send the body back to his Alpha with the message that he is next.
