Chapter 18 Shock

Chapter 18 Shock
Another gunshot rang out, aimed straight at me, who managed to jump just in time. Leo caught me, picked me up, and ran with me before the two gunmen caught up.

I felt so weak, I hugged Leo tightly and let him carry me away. I was scared, but somehow I felt like everything would be okay.

Leo found an old, abandoned building and decided to hide inside. He knew that sooner or later, Rocco D'Angelo's men would find him.

"Are you sure we're hiding here?" I asked. I doubted this place was safe.

"I'm not sure, but we have no choice right now. I promise, I'll get you out of here soon!"

"Then put me down now!"

"But you-"

"I'm fine, Leo! You don't have to carry me all the time!"

"Okay!"

Leo lowered me from his embrace. Then he looked for something that could help him escape. He tore open the barrels that filled the building.

"What are you looking for?"

"Weapons!"

"Weapons? You want to kill them?"

"More like self-defense. I can't just stand there if they try to attack me, can I?"

"Leo?"

"Their numbers will increase soon. They know they can't fight me alone. So they'll definitely call their friends to surround this place!"

"Oh my God, what should we do?" My body trembled. I couldn't believe my life was at stake now. Those mafia wouldn't hesitate to torture and kill us both if we were caught, just like in those movies.

Leo found a bullet on the floor, and that gave him an idea. He went back to looking for any weapons he could use if attacked. He checked barrel after barrel until he found an empty pistol.

"A gun? You're going to use that?"

"Yeah, but there's no bullet in it!"

"S-so?"

"It's okay! I can use this one!" He said, loading a bullet he found on the floor.

Leo quickly began to think of a plan as he began to sense signs of the mafia members approaching. He thought that if he were alone, escaping their pursuit would be easy. However, he was with me now, and he was probably worried about my safety too.

"I have a plan, but it'll take courage."

"What is it? Do you want me to do something?"

"Can you let go of your phone?"

"What?"

"I'll buy you a new one later!"

"But this is a new phone I bought last month, how could I—"

"I'll buy you as many as you want. So this once, please help me!"

"What are you saying? Have you forgotten how I helped you before? Are you going to forget my services just like that?"

"Yes, I know, I'm grateful for everything you've done. So this time, I need your help again!"

Five men dressed all in black entered an abandoned building filled with barrels. They were holding firearms and looked very cautious.

"Are you sure they entered this place?" Asked one of the men, who appeared to be the leader of the gang.

"Yes, I saw Leo running towards this building. He must still be hiding here!"

"He must have escaped! You know how clever he is, right? We'll be dead if he manages to summon his men against us!"

"Don't worry! He won't get away that fast! I've already called for backup to surround this place. Wherever he tries to run, we'll catch him!"

They seemed convinced that Leo was still hiding somewhere in the building. Seeing dozens of barrels neatly stacked almost to the brim, they suspected he was hiding in one of them.

"I have an idea!"

Buuukkk...

The man began kicking the empty barrels one by one with his foot, grinning broadly as he used this trick as a threat.

"Tch, Leo...! You must be hiding here, right? There's no point in running! We'll definitely find you...! You'd better surrender now before this bullet lodges in your brain...!" He shouted, kicking again.

But even though almost all the barrels were scattered on the floor, they still couldn't find any sign of Leo.

"Damn it...!" One of them shouted in annoyance as he fired bullets at the wall, hoping one of them would hit Leo, who was hiding.

Dring...dring...

Just as the man stopped shooting, the sound of a cell phone ringing could be heard from one of the barrels still standing. The man smiled and glanced at his comrades, who were thinking the same thing.

The man kicked the barrel as he prepared to shoot. However, when the barrel opened, they found nothing but a cell phone with Leo's name on the screen as an incoming call.

"What's this?"

Braaakkk...

Three men fell to the ground after being hit in the head by a wooden block. Hearing a suspicious noise from behind, the other three men turned around and prepared to shoot.

Braukkk...

Bang...

Leo appeared and hit them in the head with the wood, using the body of one of their comrades as a shield from the shots aimed at him.

"Damn...!"

They screamed in annoyance when they realized they had shot their own comrades instead of Leo, who had gotten closer after getting a loaded pistol from the man standing at the back.

Bang...bang...

They tried again to shoot Leo, who was too fast and only ended up hitting their comrades' bodies with bullets from their pistols.

Bang...bang...bang...

Leo returned fire, instantly taking them down one by one. Leo couldn't let go of the man's body; it was the only way he could survive their gunfire. However, he knew that any tactic he employed would always have a flaw, especially since the enemies he was facing weren't amateur shooters; they were hitmen whose orders he already knew.

Leo hid behind a pillar, trying to protect himself while also rethinking how he could get me out of this place alive. He didn't care if he died here, but me? He didn't want anything bad to happen to me.

"I have to get out of here. Damn it, I only have two bullets left in my gun, and there are only three of them left. If I can kill two of them with these two bullets, that means there's one left. If Hana can use the gun we found earlier, maybe my plan will work. But what if she doesn't have the courage to do it?"

"What? Are you telling me to shoot someone? No! I don't want to deal with the police, and I don't want to kill anyone!"

"What do you mean? We're in a bind right now!"

"That's different, you idiot! What if someone gets killed by my shot?"

"Who cares? The important thing is that neither of us dies!"

"But—"

"Okay, I understand. I don't want to force you. But really, I don't want anything bad to happen to you. Hide up here until it's safe, understand? If anyone finds you, shoot them immediately with this gun."

"What about you?"

"I'll deal with them. Don't worry about me. The most important thing for me is that you get out of here safely. I'm sorry I got you involved in this."
