Chapter Fifteen
May’s POV
Right after Declan dropped me off at the house, I got rid of all my clothing and walked back into the room to binge watch some movies. I decided to start with a 1997 classic Indian movie.
I rested my head against the head of the bed with my legs crossed while sitting on the bed. I thought Nicholas wouldn’t come back tonight so it’ll be better if I just enjoy this one night.
It was almost twenty minutes into the movie when Nicholas walked into the room, suit in hand. Once our eyes met, I blushed remembering the kiss, and quickly looked away. I couldn’t afford to make a joke of myself.
Nicholas walked into the bathroom immediately to probably shower and change. When he walked out, I switched off the television with the remote in my hand, ready to walk to the couch and probably continue the movie on my phone or sleep, depending on what my mood will be five seconds from now.
He suddenly stopped me by holding my hand and pushing me back on the bed. He took the remote from me and put the movie back on.
I looked on at him surprisingly and couldn’t say a word. He slid into bed and sat on the other side, ready to watch the movie with me.
“What?” He asked once he saw that I was staring at him.
“Nothing. I’m just surprised” I replied.
He ignored my talk and went back to watching the movie. I quickly settled in and continued enjoying the movie too. A few minutes later, he suddenly paused the movie and went downstairs without telling me anything.
I was still shocked and bothered by his action when my phone suddenly rang. It was Adam.
“Hey, party boy” he laughed
“Hey, wild child. I still couldn’t believe you did that at my party, May. That was crazy”
“Sorry I ruined your party, Adam, I feel really bad”
“If you really feel bad, then go out with me on Sunday, okay?”
“Fine” I agreed since I really didn’t have anything to do on Sunday or any other day.
“In case you need to know, everyone actually thinks you’re cool with what you did, though. Like, were you high on something?” He asked, laughing hard.
I had to join him because his laughter was kinda infectious.
“No! I was okay. I just didn’t like how she embarrassed my friend like that. He was trying to look out for her, and she disgraced him that way”
“I understand, May. Some of my friends understand too because they know that’s how those girls are. To your previous question, no, you didn’t ruin my party” he concluded.
“I’m glad I didn’t”
“Hope you got home safe, May?” He asked, his time a little bit serious.
“Yes. Declan, I mean my friend got me home safe”
“That’s good. Thank you for attending the party. It was great seeing you there”
“Thanks for calling. I’ll see you on Sunday, right?” I asked. As soon as I did, the door opened to reveal Nicholas holding a bowl of popcorn and two cans of soda in his hand.
“I’ll come to pick you up by six in the evening. Goodnight Wild child”
Laughing, I replied. “Goodnight”
I dropped the call and placed my phone back on the table. I turned to see Nicholas staring at me with those eyes that send chills down my body each time I locked my eyes with them.
“What?” It was my turn to ask this time around. I collected the popcorn and a soda from him.
“Nothing. Just wondering who you were talking to”
“Is it question and answer time?” I asked and he looked at me as if I had two heads.
“Maybe. You had this really huge smile on your face, so I was wondering about who you were talking to”
“Adam. He invited me out on Sunday” I informed him “Will you go?” He asked.
“Of course, I’ll go. My turn to ask two questions as well, can I proceed?”
“If with caution? Yes”, he replied
“Why are your eyes like this? They were black when I knew you and not these two beautiful colors”
“You think my eyes are beautiful and not scary?”
“That will make it three questions and no, these eyes aren’t scary”
I was beginning to enjoy the conversation I was having with Nicholas, no tension, no hatred, just two people talking like old times.
“I used to wear contacts back then. I thought it was embarrassing having two different colors in both eyes and at some point, I wanted to wear a patch on one and let people think I’m blind on one eye, but my doctor felt wearing contact would be better”
I nodded in understanding and it all made sense now. He really wasn’t the type who looked people in the eye back then and it was probably because he was feeling insecure even though he was putting on contact lenses.
“Second question?” He suddenly asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“What?” I asked confusingly.
“You said you have two questions”
“Yeah, the second one, are you drunk?” I asked
He smiled before shaking his head, “No, I’m not drunk. I’m perfectly normal. I just want us to put everything behind us for just one night and forget about all the anger, hatred, and bitterness that I’d locked in my soul for so many years” He replied.
Even though I wanted to ask why he was angry when I’m supposed to be the one who should be angry and bitter, but I swallowed my words and decided to ask the third one.
“So, were you drunk when you kissed me back then?” I dropped the bomb and froze as he whipped his head so fast to look at me.
His hand suddenly reached out to touch my face, before going down to touch my lips as he looked longingly at my pout lips.
“I was a little bit tipsy, but I wasn’t drunk. I know what I was doing, and I did it because I wanted to. I’m sorry if I didn’t ask for bother about your thought when I did that”
“No, it’s okay, I didn’t hate it”
That was the simplest way to say that I loved the kiss. To ease the tension, I grabbed some popcorn into my hand, moved away from him, and forced everything into my mouth.
The movie resumed playing and the next scene was the funniest I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The hero was being fired with bullets in an attempt to end his life and my eyes went wide in horror, confusion, surprise, and bewilderment when the hero started spitting out the bullets from his mouth, smirking at those shooting their guns at him.
I burst into laughter after I recovered from the shock and so also was Nicholas. He wasn’t sounding like an old donkey like I was, but I realized the scene was just as funny to him.
Wishing every day would continue to be like this; an absent past and a glorious present day but I knew it wouldn’t as my soul wasn't healed yet.
The next morning, I woke up, curled beneath Nicholas's large frame. His hands wrapped around me and my forehead rested against his chest.
