Chapter 8—BACK TO THE HUT
Lyra Luhr was being led back to her hut by Thor; the Thunder God, who was acting like a father to her, while she was in 836 AD. She was still in shock from her ordeal with the Loch Ness Monster. Trying to take Lyra away from Varg and his village.
She still had no idea of how she had felt about Varg and the whole wedding that was yet to come. Lyra really liked how he looked. With his rugged muscular looks and how he saved her from the beast. Even though, he was in his other form at the time, but he was still built like a dragon that he was. Varg looked like he could take the creature out, even if he was not so focused on saving her life.
Lyra glanced around as they were talking through the Viking village. Everything seemed to move in slow moving motion and saw that many of them were happy. No matter the hard work they do in life. They were simply happy about living another day; while they are still around people that they know. They were not experiencing the hardships that she knew of, from 2003. There was no money that corrupted the people, to the point that most of them had no downtime for themselves. But the Vikings had more downtime than anything else.
She saw children playing or being told stories, by many adults that were around them, even by the elders. She also had noticed that everyone was eating over an open fire. Either with a friend, family members, or even a neighbor. Each one of them was exchanging their own intake about the monster. That they had either helped take down with their leader. Or stood from a safe distance and watched the whole thing.
Lyra had to smile at some of the exaggerations that she had heard from a few of them as she and Thor had passed by. Some were saying, “There was no real danger. We had Varg, and we all know that he could take anything down.”
Another person said, “That creature looked like Jormugand.” This caused Lyra to swallow hard. She had heard that name before; it dawned on her just as the person went on to say, “Loki’s serpent son.”
Thor grumbled after hearing the name of his brother. He then glanced down towards his daughter, the one that he had taken from his future line. “Don’t worry about it, Lyra.” He then looked around, growling out for all the village people to hear, “They have no idea of what they are talking about.”
This caused all the people to quiet up from the encounter of the water creature and stop all the talk about Loki and his supposed son.
“Father, don’t treat me like a child here.” She was starting to get angry with the man before her. “I know who they are talking about. All the history books that dealt with Viking Gods and Goddesses repeated your story the most.” Lyra gave her father a heated look, indicating that he needed to be truthful with her. “You don’t understand how serious this could be.” She then glared even harder. “But I must know: what does this have to do with me?”
Thor growled low and long, trying to tell Lyra to drop the issue, but she went on to tell him that she would not like to see the end of what is yet to come. “That’s enough, Lyra!” He took a deep breath to calm himself down but failed to do so. “I can’t prevent something that fate can’t change for me.”
Lyra pulled her arm away from his and walked away until she was able to face him clearly. “That’s rich coming from the man that took me away from my own time!” She was really heated, enough to where she was controlling her voice in hopes of not yelling. She was still loud enough to let people know that she was very angry with the Thunder God before her. “You didn’t allow FATE to play out MY life. What is the difference between the two of us for it to make it justifiable?”
Thor had enough with his daughter’s moving lips. “Go to your hut,” roared out Thor like a thunder roaring out upon the land. He was terribly angry, like a flash of lightning that followed.
"Then don't give me a life for me to care for you then," Lyra snapped before she ran away from him.
A small part of him knew that she was only trying to help him. But he knew that there were some things that could never be changed about fate, and one of them was death. There was no way anyone could escape the clutches of it. It was one of the things that no God or Goddess could ever change. Not even the Golden Apples could help with something like that.
Thor really felt guilty about yelling at Lyra, but he was dreading the time for him to face one of his brother’s sons and find his own downfall with such heartache. He did not know where he went wrong with Loki. They were the best of friends that two brothers could be.
Thor then went back into his mind and wondered if it was not him, but their father who had wronged Loki. Their father had ever given Loki a chance to prove himself, as a warrior that Thor had seen his brother being.
‘You need to leave your so-called daughter, in 2003. Where she belongs, and I do not want to hear the name of Loki in this house again,’ the voice of Odin had rung through his mind; before his adventure of time travel had started.
It was when that Thor had decided that it was time to head back to the Great Hall. Leaving his daughter; Lyra Luhr, alone. Once he had found himself sitting, in the chair that Lyra had sat in, before. This caused the man that Thor would be calling son, soon. Turned his neck around and saw that the God of Thunder looked worried.
“What happened to you?” asked Varg. “You don’t look like yourself.”
Thor gave an uncertain but dark chuckle. “Lyra and I got into a fight.”
This caused Varg to glance over towards the massive man closely. He saw the worry and fatigue that he was trying to hide within his eyes and shoulders. “What about?”
The God of Thunder reached over for a goblet of mead and took a few gulps before replying, “We were arguing about fate. How I believed it was alright for me to take her out of her time while it was not alright for me to die in the hands of my brother’s son. She didn’t want to hear about my destined death.” With another gulp of mead, he went on to say, “I told her that as a God, I could not prevent or stop death—not from fate.”
He closed his eyes for a moment. "And then, she told me that I shouldn't have brought her into a life for her to care about me."
Varg sighed, reached for his own mead, and drank a few gulps of his own. “It sounds like it was something that was out of your hands.” He was surprised by what wisdom he was giving to the man before him. “Something that she could not fathom: you not controlling.” The war leader gave the God a knowing look as he went on to say, “But when you act upon her behalf of living a longer life, she takes it out on you.” The Celtic/Viking spied upon his Great Hall, to see if anyone was watching the two of them were talking. “I think I should go and see how Lyra is. She may need a shoulder to cry on.” He thought back on what he had seen before that day. “I could see that the drama from earlier had really spooked her.”
Thor wanted to hit his head against the table but managed to be the God that his father had taught him to be. “And I had made it even worse than what it should have been.” He then picked up the goblet that had been drinking and threw it across the massive hall, hitting the far wall.
“I have all of this strength to help me on a daily basis, but when it comes to talking to women, I might as well have been a troll.” The Thunder behind the God lessened. “The kind that is mindless and on a whacking spree.”
Varg grumbled. He had heard stories from his father about Thor, and he was not pleased with what he had seen so far. He was hoping for another like father figure or something. What he saw, he was wondering if his father was just another storyteller. “Just have another drink, and I will see you in the morning.”
Thor turned towards Varg with such anger that none would ever think about crossing his path again. “My daughter’s virtue better be intact in the morning, or you will find yourself in a warrior’s duel!” The fire behind the God’s eyes was enough to make Varg listen. “It is without your Wolf-Dragon form, or you will find the lightning upon your HIDE.”
Varg, who was sitting next to Thor, said, “Understood, and I do care about Lyra.” He then glared at the man next to him. “I don’t need you to make such bold statement like that, and I just want to listen to you.”
Then, Varg got up on his feet and moved around his chair and made his way towards the back of the Great Hall. He made his way towards where Lyra Luhr was staying at. When he had gotten to her hut, Varg could hear someone was crying within. He ignored the urge to knock upon her door and just walked in.
What he saw after closing the door behind him was Lyra curled up onto her bed and trying to make herself as small as possible. She looked like something else entirely. The Viking leader walked towards her bed, which caused Lyra to stop her whimpering, for she heard his footsteps as he walked closer to her.
Once Varg had reached her bed, he said, “I know that you have realized that I’m here, Lyra.” She still had not moved from her spot on the bed. “Sit up so we can talk about what has happened with your father.”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” mumbled the woman.
The Wolf-Dragon grumbled, “I know for a fact, woman, that women enjoy talking.” He sighed when he heard nothing else from her. “I am willing to give you an open ear for you to use, and you do not want it?”
“You wouldn’t understand,” challenged Lyra.
The war leader flexed his muscles and walked across the floor while he was trying to think of a way to get Lyra to talk to him. “I know that it can be tiring, trying to talk to the great Thunder God,” stated Varg. “But I know that you were trying to save his life.” He saw that his words were getting to her, for she was twitching her feet as she was wrapping her arms around herself. “It’s not up to you, Lyra, who lives and dies.”
This caused Lyra to sit up and face the man that was within her hut. “YET it was alright for HIM to play with fate when it comes to MY life, but it’s not alright for me to do so for HIM.”
Varg smirked inwardly at his triumph in getting her to show her face and talking to him about what was bothering her. “You must understand that Gods have the power to do whatever they wish. Even when it comes to people’s lives.” Then, a thought came to him as he asked, “Have you not seen such things happen from where you have lived?”
Lyra had to think hard back to when she was still living in her own time. She knew that he was right. Even the one True God had played a hand in many lives. He had either saved their lives. Or allows them to find out the hard way that their way of living was not the best for them to live.
Lyra believed in God, and he had a plan for how life should live. She just wished. She knew what God had planned for her. Because it was plain hard for life was never easy or played out how one had pictured it.
She wanted to go to college and become a historian at a museum. Where people would love to hear about the people who lived during that time. Or even about the artifacts that were found at some far away dig. God really did a number in her life. If she had known about being transported through time, she may not have had gone through school.
As Lyra went through her mind of things that she was thinking about; Varg sat down upon her bed, next to her. Watching her, seeing how deep in thought she could go. He smiled. He saw the faraway look that was within her eyes. Seeing that her eye color became a forest green color as her mind became lost. Her hair seemed to be everywhere, unlike her usual care that she had liked her hair.
Varg felt a pang within him, as he wondered what was causing the deep frown upon her pale pink lips. He wanted to reach out to her and claim those lips that had brought such sadness. With his mind made up. Varg leaned over to where he could reach her lips. Applied a heated pressure upon the impact that he brought he had caused. For a moment, he felt her struggle, just a little from what he believed was the shock that he had given her. He then noticed that she had stopped struggling and return with her own kisses.
He knew that he was being selfish when he had started the kiss. But he was enjoying the fact that Lyra was not fighting against him. Varg was starting to feel the need to breathe again. He slowly moved away and relaxed his hold that he had on her shoulders. Once he had opened his eyes, he found that Lyra’s eyes were in a daze. She had enjoyed the kiss. This caused the Celtic/Viking to smile for he had not felt the way he was feeling before. Towards anyone in his life, other than Lyra.
The woman within the hut did not know how to take her experience that she had with Varg. She had been kissed before. But nowhere close to a lightly heated kiss had brought them to feel very tender and the need of wanting more. Lyra no longer cared about the life that she had, before meeting Varg. The kiss has woken her up, facing the time that she was in. Knowing there was no way of it, it was time for her to face the music and run with it.
She brought her arms from her lap and wrapped them around Varg’s neck. Causing him to lean forward once more and brought on a very heated kiss. Which brought the two of them to move their jaw muscles in ways that neither has worked before. Varg’s hands had traveled from Lyra’s shoulders, down to her waist. Where he tugged her closer. He felt her nipples through her dress to his barely bare chest that was being covered by his leather vest.
Varg heard her sigh, as she moved her lips away from his. She was fighting for breath and knew that he influenced her. He wanted to move towards her neck but knew that it was probably too much for her to take, at that point in time. Varg had to work slowly with her, and he cannot rush things with her. Or he was going to get himself killed by her Thunder God father.
When Lyra was able to breathe and think for herself again, she said, “We can’t go on any further, Varg.”
He knew what she was talking about as he gave her a smile. “I only wanted a kiss. I am not like most men who would take a woman’s virtue before the wedding.” He looked into her eyes for her to see that he was telling the truth. “I just wanted to see you happy. I am only here to provide a shoulder.” He turned towards her, showing that his shoulder was available. “Since your ordeal with the creature of the loch, along with your emotional dealings with your father.” He saw the surprised look on her face and was worried that she would shut him away again. “If anything, I would like to fall asleep with you in my arms, giving you safety and keeping you warm as you sleep.”
Lyra may not have allowed such things from her time, knowing it was against God’s law for a woman to sleep with a man before marriage. But she really needed to sleep. Lyra would have to make it clear of what she wanted from him that night. “Just hold me.” She stated very clearly to the man next to her. “I want nothing more than that.”
Varg gave her a caring smile, the kind that said he was not going to do anything else but what she had commanded of him. “That is all that I will do.”
Lyra, with great effort, lay down upon the bed and scooted closer to the wall. Varg was busy taking off his boots and once he was down, placed himself next to her. When he was settled into place and relaxed. Lyra turned towards him and rested her head over his heart while positioning her arm around him. After a few moments, Lyra had closed her eyes and fell asleep.
While the woman was sleeping, Varg had wondered if he would get to do this every time they would go to bed. He was enjoying the fact that he had a woman in his bed, holding onto him. Wanting to feel the safety that he was proving. After a long while. He heard her breathing, he too drifted away from the real world and entered into the world of dreams.
