Chapter 131 - Attack

**Davina's P.O.V.**

When we see the hounds and lower demons, I look at Jessi. We all know this is only Surtur's first attack. He'll save the best for last, so we need to reserve our energy.

"Everyone stay back. Let me take care of these rats." I make myself tiny and fly over those running through the gates. I sprinkle my dust as I go. They all turn into giant rats. Hmmmm, what dance shall we have them do? I know this isn't the time for fun and games, but we need a little laughter before we face the fire demon. I've got the perfect song. I return to the others, and they all look at me.

"Come on, fellas, show us what you got." I clap my hands, and the rats all line up in rows, standing on their hind legs. When they begin singing and dancing, everyone howls with laughter.

"You have them singing Y.M.C.A.?" Jessi asks while wiping the tears from her eyes.

"Yep, why was there something else you'd rather hear?" Jessi shakes her head while pulling out her sword.

"This is perfect. Come on, everyone, let's take care of the singing, dancing fools." With the rats under my spell and unable to fight, we have them all killed within minutes.

"That was easy, but we know the others won't be. Are you all ready to fight?" Jessi asks, looking around at the warriors and our newer arrivals. I'm so proud of all of them but also terrified. Please don't let us lose anyone. When the ground begins shaking, we know attack number two is coming. The warriors spread out to catch some of them as they come through the gates. Tania shifts into Izzy so she can take people out from above. Darian shifts into Shadow and flies overhead. I make myself big and get prepared. Come on bitches we're ready for you.

The first few demons that run through the gate stop to look around at all the dead rats. Their hesitations allow a few warriors to kill them easily. However, hundreds more follow. These demons aren't as powerful as they would be in their realm, but they're still not easy to kill.

I stomp on a few, crushing them like bugs. Izzy swoops down and chomps a couple at a time while breathing fire on a few more. I look over and see Gabrial and Tazi have shifted, too. The alicorn stabs a demon in the chest while the tiger tears him to pieces. The warriors are using their swords one after another, but the demons keep coming. I don't like this. We're fighting hard, and we haven't even seen Surtur yet.

I pick up my speed and stomp through the demons, being careful not to step on my own people. When I get to the gate, I look toward the portal and see more demons coming out. The warriors who had been guarding the portal are fighting as many as they can before they can get to us. How has Surtur got so many demons on his side? Should I call Satan for help? I don't want to use him until Surtur gets here because right now, the fire demon hasn't shown his ugly face, so Satan can't do anything to him. We just have to keep fighting. Eventually, they'll run out of demons, and the big guns will come.

*"Wyatt, can you make them all freeze so we can kill them? I know it will only last a minute, but we need to do something."* Sometimes I forget about his ability. Everyone only thinks about Jessi and the teleporting, but Wyatt can freeze time.

*"Yes, but it may freeze some of the people on our side. Can you help with that?"* I smile and make myself tiny. I fly over everyone on our side, sprinkle some of my dust on them, and tell them what Wyatt's going to do so they can be prepared.

*"Okay, they should all be good."* I return to normal size. We may only have a minute, but I feel like knocking some bitch ass demons out. Everyone stops fighting, and the demons look at us in shock. Wyatt wastes no time freezing them. Izzy takes out many of them, chomping them and spitting them out.

I run to the nearest demon and punch him in his frozen face before spinning and kicking him in the chest. I take my dagger, drive it into his chest, and cut him open. I move from one to another. When the freezing wears off, we've killed almost all of them, and no more are coming through the gates.

We move through the remaining demons quickly, and once we're sure there are no more, we regroup. That fight took longer than I would have liked. What other tricks does Surtur have?

"Is everyone okay?" Jessi asks, looking around. We all look tired but energized.

"Do you think Surtur will be next?" Jessi asks me. Jock puts his arms around me from behind and buries his face in my neck. I'm glad he's getting over his awkwardness with public displays of affection.

"I believe he'll be next and won't be alone. With the amount of demons and hounds we've already dealt with, he has more helping him than I thought. He's not going to be easy to beat, and we need to watch out for tricks. He's good at them." I look at Maelani standing in Darian's arms. She nods in agreement.

"Davina is right. Surtur had me convinced that I was his mate, and he had control over me, making me do things that make me sick to think about. He's not going to go down easily." Darian looks like he's ready to kill. Good. We need that. We all need to be ready to kill.

When the ground begins shaking so badly a few people start falling, I know Surtur and the other demons have just come through the portal. I hope we don't have to call Satan; it would be great to defeat Surtur on our own, but just in case, I will keep him on speed dial.

The first few demons walk through the gates and look around at the dead bodies lying everywhere. I recognize a few demons and can't say I'm surprised they'd partner with Surtur. When the bastard himself walks through the gate, my heart drops, and everyone gasps. How did he get them?

"Release them now," Jessi screams at him, pulling out her sword.

"I will do no such thing. Oh, and I have more to show you," He pushes Zoe and Ryder to one of the other demons and moves to the side. Behind him are two more demons with Samira, Lucas, and Camilla. How in the fuck did they get all of them? I look at Jessi, and she has fire in her eyes. Shit, this isn't going to end well if we lose our cool. This is what Surtur wants. I look at Camilla, Samira, and Lucas. I will sacrifice myself if it means saving them. I will not let them die.
