Chapter 55

Jasmine's POV

I couldn’t believe my ears when Axel finally confessed he loved me. I was in ecstasy and for a moment I forgot about everything else that’s been going on around us. After Axel left I turned towards Dimitri who’s been looking at me with a smile on his face. There wasn’t jealousy written on his face, he was genuinely happy for me. He was silent, but no words were necessary. I knew he loved me and I loved him too. I didn’t distinguish between him and Axel. It sounded strange. How could one person love two other people the same way? How could two men share one woman? How could three people share the same bed? And what about kids, would they have two fathers? Would they grow up separately or together without a care in the world? Some might say it’s disgusting and immoral, but not in the supernatural world. In this world the impossible was possible and even natural. I snapped out of my thoughts when I realized that I had things to do.

“What are your plans Jasmine?”

“The council needs to be changed immediately. They became too biased and they have too much power. The only person who’ll remain in his position is Hector. I need that traitor close and under surveillance. I think that’s all for today, but we’ll see what other issues arise during this meeting. Do you know who I should ask to take the position in the council?”

“You’re doing the wisest thing by getting rid of the current council. We can try and ask the same people I wanted to have in the council, but I don’t know how they’ll take the news that the Vasileiou family took back the throne. Maybe we should look for people who supported your family back then. I still believe that some families left.”

“There was an old man quarreling with Hector earlier. He said that there are at least a thousand demons who support my family and believed that the bloodline didn’t end with Nicholas. We can try talking to him too, let’s see what his thoughts are. Also, I want women in the council too. It was possible once and I want to bring that back.”

“I like this idea. So in order; you’ll dissolve the council except Hector, we’ll ask my previous candidates and then the old man as soon as we figure out who he was. I’ll be there with you the whole time if you need my help.”

I knew that Dimitri wouldn’t leave my side and he’d let me deal with everything by myself and would only intervene when necessary and I’d be lost. When we reached the big study all the council members were there. Some of them were emotionless and some of them showed uncertainty, anger and even disgust. I couldn’t change their thoughts, but it wouldn’t matter anymore. They’d be here until we found the new members and I’ll make sure that nobody would be threatened this time to make them withdraw.

“Good afternoon! I’m sure you all have heard the news by now. You can ask the questions after I finish as I hate to be interrupted. I won’t waste time and skip to the important matter. From now on everything will change, nothing will be the same and for that we need to start with the root. The current council is no longer and new members will be appointed; however, Hector will remain the head of the council. I heard some rumors that other candidates suddenly stepped down and refused to accept the position they were offered. This happened because of threats, which is totally unacceptable. There will be no threats and other inappropriate offers. Until the new members are selected all of you can keep the positions, but no other matters will be discussed. From this moment on everything concerns the new council. Now, if you have questions you can ask them.”

“What makes you think that demons will support you? You know nobody, you have no friends and allies in this realm. You can try to change everything, but it won’t work.”

“Let me worry about that and I believe there are demons who prefer changes and will choose my side. I don’t want to cause havoc and riot in the realm, but if you look around you can see that every other supernatural race is more advanced and modernized. I know that this isn't the current generation’s fault, but don’t you want to see the demons on the same level?” - I asked, but didn’t get an answer.

“As I see nobody else has questions and concerns. Thank you for coming, but don’t leave until the candidates arrive. I don’t want to see that temptation get the best of you and you couldn’t resist to offer them something which can change their minds. As we were speaking, Dimitri wrote down the list of names who were candidates before. Hector, I’d like to ask you to gather these demons here and Ajax will go with you so that hopping between houses would be easier.”

“My Queen, that won’t be necessary. I’m sure he has better things to do and I’m capable of gathering a few people.”

“That wasn’t a request, that was a demand. It seems to me that you want to lose this position of yours. I can find someone else if you want.”

“No, no. That won’t be necessary. Thinking this through Ajax would be a big help.”

I hope he didn’t really think that I’d let him go alone. For now he wouldn’t know the word ‘privacy’ as it’d cease to exist for him. I still had to figure out how Hector and Barbie communicated, but sooner or later everything would be solved. As we were waiting for Hector to come back the lyrics of Kings & Queens by Ava Max popped into my head and I started singing. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for him to come back.

“Thank you for coming. Now, every unnecessary person should leave the room. I hope that Hector filled you in on your way here. If not let me tell you that the previous council is no longer and all of you here were selected for a position. You don’t have to decide right away of course, you have time until tomorrow. There’s no pressure, if you don’t accept the offer I will accept it.”

“My Queen, I don’t need time to think, I’ll accept the position.”

“Me too!”

“The three of us would never work up close with a demon from the Vasileiou family. We accept that you came back and won’t cause trouble.”

“Thank you, I accept both answers. Like I said, it's your choice. As for the others, let’s just say if someone doesn’t come to the castle before lunchtime I take it as a ‘no’ for answer. I won’t keep you here much longer. I have to look for three new candidates to replace those who turned down the offer.”

“If you’ll excuse me my Queen, I have to go. There’s a family emergency at home.”

“What’s wrong Hector? I still need your help.”

“Cecily is home alone and she’s not comfortable alone in that big house. I had to rush here and didn’t have time to think about that issue.”

“That’s not a big problem and can be solved easily. I have a feeling she would be bored with politics. Maybe she can go out with her friends.”

“There are not many people she trusts. Being the daughter of the head of the council comes with this disadvantage.”

“I have an idea, Ajax can take her to Earth. My friends will show her around and she won’t be alone. They’re trustworthy people and Cecily will be in good hands. We can do this every time you have to work and she doesn’t want to come with us.”

I saw through him and his lies. Cecily had no problem staying home alone, Hector just had to give an excuse so he could consult with Barbie. I tied him to me and I took care of Cecily at the same time by sending her to Earth to be with the pack. Hector reluctantly agreed, because he didn’t have a choice in the matter. I could see Dimitri smirking, thinking the same thing. I couldn’t control them at night, but the guards will take care of that. I just realized that they need to be stationed at the gate to check who comes and goes.

“I just realized something. We need guards on both sides of the gate. I know that nobody can enter without invitation or a demon accompanying them, but there are always loopholes. Dimitri, you know the guards the best, so I leave this matter to you. Hector, who was the old man earlier? We need to see him today. Are you okay, do you need to sit down? You look awfully pale.” - I hit the nail on the head, and I knew that either he and Cecily left the realm or Barbie came here somehow.

“N-no m-my Queen, I’m f-f-fine. I suddenly became dizzy, but it passed now. I’ll take you to that man.” - he said quickly composing himself.
