Do Your Homework
Cherilyn’s POV…

I believe I can say with all certainty that meeting Kyle and Deborah today was no accident. My store—Cherry’s Place—was in need of something that would take the business to the next level. It’s been sixteen months since I started it, and it’s been so successful that even in such a short time, I had made a considerable amount of money from it, enough to invest in a collaborative effort with the couple I met at the conference.

We talked for a couple of minutes and I liked everything they were saying and also what they were offering. They gave me their business card. I gave them mine. They also wrote down their website for me, so I could check out their fashion company. And we even exchanged personal cell numbers.

They weren’t the only Christians working in fashion that I met at the conference. So many others were there, and believe me when I tell you that these children of God were not playing around. I almost felt like a fish out of water amongst them. They were all so successful, having been in the industry way longer than I have. They knew so much, had so much insight and were determined to grow even more than they already were. They were all conquerors, and it was an honor and a privilege to interact with them all.

I’m pretty sure Michaela also met some people in similar fields as herself, although it’s safe to say that she was the only billionaire at the entire conference. Oh, when people heard her name and the name of her company, many of them recognized her status and she became like a mini celebrity within the space.

I’m not really sure how things went with Kendra. She wasn’t as obvious as Mick and I were. She mostly kept a low profile and interacted with a few people as well, but she never talked about it while we were there. No qualms though. I’m spending one more night with her at the hotel, so I figured she’d give me all the details after we settled back in.

We spent approximately three hours at the conference. Mick dropped Ken and I off at the hotel before heading home herself. Overall, it was a very eventful day. We were given a few souvenirs, we took several pictures and made a bunch of unforgettable memories. Good times! Good times indeed.

It’s evening now. The sun is gone for the day. Kendra and I are getting ready for the night, and I felt the need to start a conversation with her, seeing as we had barely talked since we left the conference.

“So, how was it for you? Did you find anything worth your time?” I asked her from the bed where I was seated.

“Yeah, I talked to a few people and I exchanged a few numbers. But in terms of the spiritual, I don’t think there was anything there for me to find,” she answered, seated on the desk on the other side.

I wanted to reassure her, but before I could say anything else, she rose to her feet and grabbed her phone. “I’ll be right back. I have to make a call.”

She left the hotel room and went outside to make her call. Wonder why she didn’t just do it inside.

Malcolm’s POV…

I remember saying that on Tuesdays, you get your homework and if you get most answers correctly, Wednesday becomes a cheat day. Well, that’s about to be the case for me.

Tuesday wasn’t even over yet and I could feel Lady Luck already smiling at me. Not only did I put Zara in her place, but I also had a lot of other things go my way. Before I got back home, I received multiple calls from the CEOs of the branches of my company, all three of them.

Jack was the first to reach out. He reported that Sal’s Metal Palace had allocated the funds we needed from them and that the process was without a hitch, due to Michaela’s steadfast loyalty in getting this project over the line. He also added that several of our other major partners had all done their part as well, meaning we were good to go from New York.

After the call ended, it was only about five minutes later before I got a call from the Lagos branch; a direct line with my half-brother Rotimi. They were also good to go, and since we were leading from the Mother branch, it was very good news to hear that there weren’t any problems. I also got a call from Malaysia. The CEO of that branch mentioned that she had suffered a few losses since we started gathering signatures to help with the launch. However, she’d managed to call in several favours with her investors and millionaire friends in Asia, and they were also ready for the launch.

In a month’s time, Balogun Incorporated will add a new branch to our illustrious list and will well be on our way to cementing our legacy in the world of business. It was almost complete. My father’s dream; one which I inherited from him. My happiness knew no bounds and I couldn't wait for the day to finally arrive. Once the China Expansion Project was over and done with, I would be able to focus all my attention on getting married to Cherilyn, according to my mother’s plan… With Michaela right there beside me, until it was time to make her my wife as well.

The house felt quite empty tonight. I walked around the grounds shirtless, with a glass of whiskey in my hand and my cellphone in the other one. I had conquered the day. I had conquered the evening. All that was left was to conquer the night. Only one way to do that; by going to my Father in prayer.

Just as I was about to head to my prayer room, my phone began to ring. I looked at the screen and saw Kendra’s name.

“Finally! I thought she’d never call,” I muttered to myself before picking up.

“Hello, Malcolm,” she said.

“Hello, Kendra,” I replied.

“We need to talk.”

I sighed. “Indeed we do.”

“I’m in New York. I can be at your place first thing tomorrow morning.”

I didn’t intend to head to the office tomorrow, so I didn’t see why not. “That’s okay. I’ll be expecting you.”
