As Annika went to answer the front door, the rest of the family continued with dinner in comfortable silence. However, that silence was abruptly broken by the sound of the whip cracking.
“What was that!?” Matthaeus shouted.
“That was a gunshot!” Royce exclaimed. Leon jumped to his feet so fast that the rest of the family didn’t even see him run out of the dining room like The Flash.
“Baby Bear!” Beau hollered as he pushed away from the table with so much force that his chair fell. The rest of the family followed after him, and when they got to the living room, they saw that Leon had tackled someone to the ground. Upon closer evaluation, they realized that it was Sadie’s mother.
“Oh, my God! Annika!” Madalena screeched when she saw her daughter lying in a pool of her own blood and ran to her.
“Call the cops!” Leon screamed as he kept Agatha Galloway on the ground. Huxley pulled out his phone without skipping a beat. Royce and Matthaeus ran to Leon and replaced him, holding Mrs. Galloway on the floor, who continued struggling.
“THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! IT’S YOUR FAULT THAT MY DAUGHTER LOST HER BABY! MY GRANDBABY IS DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU, YOU STUPID BITCH!” Agatha shrieked like a banshee.
“You crazy bitch! What have you done to my sister!?” McKenna cried as she put pressure on Annika’s wound.
“SHE KILLED MY GRANDCHILD! IF MY DAUGHTER CAN’T HAVE HER BABY, THEN YOUR SISTER CAN’T EITHER!” Before anyone could say anything, security showed up and took custody of Mrs. Galloway. They dragged her away to meet the police downstairs.
“We need an ambulance!” Madalena cried out.
“There’s no time!” Leon shouted as he swiftly bent down and scooped Annika into his arms. Royce went with him as they raced down to the garage as fast as they could. “Royce, you drive!” Leon demanded as they quickly got into Annika’s Urus. Leon jumped into the backseat with Annika in his arms as Royce wasted no time peeling out of the parking garage and racing to the nearest hospital.
They arrived in record time. Royce quickly opened the backdoor for Leon, who ran as fast as he could into the emergency department, screaming, “HELP! MY FIANCE’S BEEN SHOT!”
The hospital staff hit the flooring running as they got a gurney and raced over to where Leon was standing. “Sir, please put her on the gurney!” a nurse told him. Leon gently put her down as the nurse checked Annika’s pulse. “Her pulse is weak! Starting CPR!” she shouted as she jumped up on top of Annika and started administering CPR.
“Careful! She’s pregnant!” Leon shouted.
“Sir, I need you to answer some questions for me so we can treat her,” a nurse caught his attention. “When was she shot?”
“About ten minutes ago.”
“You said she’s pregnant. How far along?”
“About eight weeks.”
“How old is she?”
“27.”
“Blood type?”
“I don’t know.”
“She’s A positive,” Royce answered.
“And you are?” the nurse asked.
“I’m her older brother.”
“Does she have any pre-existing medical issues?”
“No. She’s very healthy,” they both answered at the same time. The nurse nodded and then went back to where Annika was being treated.
“What do we have!?” a doctor yelled as he came over to see how bad it was.
“Pregnant 27-year-old ethnic female, GSW to the abdomen. Her pulse is weak, and her BP is dropping!”
“Doctor, there’s no exit wound!”
“Does anyone know her OB-GYN?” the doctor asked.
“It’s Kenzie Malloy!” Leon answered.
“Call pediatrics and get a hold of Dr. Malloy! Let’s get her to the OR now!” the doctor commanded the staff. They quickly wheeled Annika away. Although Leon and Royce wanted to follow, the nurse immediately stopped them at the operating room’s double doors. As the door closed in their faces, they could only watch helplessly as Annika disappeared from view.
Kenzie was seen running through the emergency room approximately thirty-five minutes later.
“Kenzie! Over here!” Royce got her attention.
“Royce, I don’t have time for small talk. I need to try and save Anni’s baby.”
“But Kenz—”
“I will come talk to you guys as soon as I can! I have to go!” Kenzie pushed past them, bursting through the same forbidden double doors. Not too long after, Hunter and the rest of the family came in.
